Drygo Show Cancellation FAQ

1. You cancelled. Why??????

The answer, quite simply, is the rampant use, and developer sanctioned, AFK macro system and buffbots.

2. That's it? There must be something else. Would you care to elaborate?

Certainly. The interdependency and economic place in the SWG universe has been ruined through the use of buffbots. A large portion of the player community sees us as useless, and in many instances my playstyle choice has even been degraded on these very forums by certain clueless non entertainers. Players value buffbots over live entertainers. Even though it has been retracted, the badge given to a buffbot, as well as a recent response by a CSR suggesting that a live entertainer go to a different Cantina instead of taking action against the buffbot shows that CSR's are squarely in the camp of the buffbot. There has been no indication whatsoever from a developer that this is going to change anytime soon. It's ruining my playstyle. I log on every day and get discouraged and depressed from both the forums and the game. On the forums I hear countless stories of buffbots not only taking over the Cantinas, but gloating about it, advertising it, and full on player support for them. In the game, more and more buffbots proliferate, even invading the public Cantinas on Kettemoor, one of the last servers to have been able to avoid this scourge. This game is no longer enjoyable to me because I can not play the way that I want to play.

3. Hasn't Panthu alluded to talk "behind the scenes" about possible "fixes" to this situation?

Yes. And, as much as I love and respect Panthu, I have to face the reality of this situation. And, that reality is that any fixes that are being discussed behind the scenes are months away. They haven't even officially released a "concept" to the player community. My guess is that any fixes that might eventually come are going to happen after Jump to Lightspeed and the Combat Rebalance. And, considering the track record for these kinds of major game changes, things get delayed quite often. We could even be looking at a year here. I can't even bear the thought of logging in day after day for 6 whole months only to log off feeling upset and angry because I can't even go into the Coronet Cantina because there is a buffbot right there, taking away every single one of my customers. When I was making my decision I thought about this fact. I thought about how it probably will eventually change. But, then I thought about how long it would take. It became clear that I didn't have the inner fortitude to put up with 3, 6, or 12 months of buffbots.

4. So what? Do you, like, hate this game now or something?

No. Quite the opposite. I love this game. This wasn't an easy decision to make. I have loved this game from the beginning. I love the interdependency, I love how there are so many different options of gameplay. I love how new content is added regularly. I was greatly looking forward to Jump to Lightspeed, and even the new Jedi path, I thought I might give it a try. Of course, I love many of the people that I met. I think SWG is one of the best games on the market right now. The graphics and the immersion are amazing. I am constantly wowed by this game and its possibilities.

5. So wait. You love this game and have listed all of the great things about it. But, you're still quitting over one issue?

I'm afraid so. Unfortunately, this issue is huge. It's totally destroyed my viability to play my chosen profession. Despite everything that I love about this game, the fact remains that I log into the forums and the game every day and I get disgusted. And, it's not just the buffbots, really. It's the entire afk macro system which I feel has greatly lessened the enjoyability of this game. This game could be so wonderful and great if only this were removed. Yet, this one thing has such a profound influence on the game that I've gotten to a point when the negatives outweigh the positives. And, in any game, that's the simple concept that forces me to leave. It's truly unfortunate that such an astounding game has this one facet to it that systematically ruins everything it touches. And, I can see from past experience, that it's not going away any time soon.

6. Is there any way that you would consider resubscribing to Star Wars Galaxies?

Unfortunately, the probability is very low. I highly doubt that by the time, if ever, that the afk macro system and buffbots are dealt with significantly, that I will not have moved on to another game that will take up all of my computer gaming time. However, on the very offchance that this happens, I would consider returning. Like I said, I think this is otherwise a great game. I used to be one of this games biggest supporters and fanboys. I could see myself becoming one again if this one issue were taken care of. But the chances of me having not "moved on" by the time this happens is very slim.

7. Where will you be going?

I don't know yet. I suspect it's going to be extremely difficult to find a game that has so many of the great and complex qualities that SWG has. I may not find one. But, I may be able to find a game that comes close in many respects. However, as I have mentioned in a couple of other posts, I will do my research. Besides all of the great times I had playing SWG I have learned something about what I absolutely don't want in an MMORPG. Any game that I play will not have an afk macro system as complex and all encompassing as SWG. I am open to suggestions and servers on other games that people play.

8. Any last words of advice?

Yes. To the developers, end the afk'ing and end it as soon as you can. Kill the buffbots and kill them immediately. Come out and have the balls to say that buffbots are griefing. Sure you may lose some subscribers. But, think about this. You've lost and will continue to lose subscribers who are against afk and buffbots. And, who do you want to be playing your game? People that actually *play* your game or a bunch of people running around trying to be as independent as possible and who truly don't understand the worth of what you have here. Because you have something great. But, you're letting it get ruined.

To the people I leave behind. I will miss all of you dearly. There are too many people to mention so I'm not going to even attempt to. I've had so many fun times and met so many great people. You entertainers are a unique bunch. You're fighters, you're creative, and you rock (pun intended). Don't let people get you down. But, at the same token, don't let the game get you down. If it gets to be too much, make the decision that you have to and be able to live with it. It's not worth it to log in everyday just to be discouraged and let down by the game mechanics.

Drygo dear, let me say that I appreciate the fact that you tried to make this profession work for you as long as you have. Its really hard right now to find fun in what we do. I used to look forward to performing in the cantinas, because I knew my effort back then made a difference. Players were grateful for us being there. We allowed them to see BF healing as fun rather than work. Now it seems we just represent more work for them, and they represent more of a curse to us than a blessing. How much has changed.

And to tell you the truth, I maybe log on once a week these days. Maybe twice. I mainly work on my swordplay, and I hardly ever dance in public anymore. Its for a lot of the reasons you have mentioned. Its really, really difficult to justify doing this thing in the current climate. Perhaps soon I may have to ask myself if the $15 I spend can be put to better use doing other things.

But know this, Drygo. We may not always agree on things, but we both wanted to make this thing work. We will remember you, Drygo, and miss you as well.

But instead of dropping the game entirely, why not check out another profession? Who knows, you may like it enough to at least give you a reason to log on.

sad to see the real deal packing his bags cause of posers and lamers abusing the system (with full backing of the management)

I hope we don't all grow tired of it and pack out bags, it would make for a very poor universe indeed..

really, if you don't have something positive to say, it doesn't hurt to be quiet. I have yet to see a constructive post from you...

Drygo, I'll miss you... we all will. we're working hard to push the issues to the devs, please consider coming back when they listen

Yes I did have constructive post but that was when you were nothing but fourm player. You just find topics and post in them to increase your post count.. like are you now planning to out beat the 10k+ people now? by ranting all my post?

Yes I did have constructive post but that was when you were nothing but an afk correspondent who never paid attention to the dancer's fourm till the last month. The last month I have been ranting because of no content or updates. Move along. Move along.

Blamj, can't you even be compassionate in a thread like this! It takes a lot to tick me off but you just did.

OMG Drygo what can I say.

I have always respected your posts eventhough I didn't always agree with your viewpoint. You will be missed no two ways about it. I do hope you will return some day.
