Well I don't know if you guys remember like a couple weeks ago the call for techniques post where Tandaavashared with us her dance class syllabi and documentation on hosting a dance school. I said I was interested in a sister chapter of the school on Kauri, and I wasn't kidding. September was a stupidly busy month for me in RL but I have been working on creating a syllabi very close to Tandaava's (with my own little hints and teaching notes thrown in of course) and hopefully I will have the time to give this a try on Kauri very soon.

What I did do was create a Dance Card for every dance and listed how long each flourish lasts to try and help you create and time your macros to perfection. I thought I would link it here for all dancer to look at and keep as a reference. I will not be offended if you alter this document for your own use in any way.

I will give the little caveat that I'm not sure how perfect this will be on each machine. I'm not sure if machine performance or network lag will play much a part on difference in times but it should be close enough anyway to give you a good idea and allow you to tweak as needed for your performances.

Names I gave where just what made sense to me. Seriously by the time I got to Exotic 4 I was completely out of names and my brain was about to explode. If you think of better names please change for yourself.

If you need this in another format, please let me know and I'll try to help you out

No, no don't use her dance cards. *goes to look at them*

The best use you get out of dance cards is creating your own, not actually using them.

What the concept of dance cards do is force you the dancer to break down each flourish in your own words and description. By doing that you ascribe your vocabulary to a part of the code. This does a few things. It is a memory trick like a mnemonic to get you to memorize the layout of a flourish on recall. It also makes you personally spend 2 or 3 minutes or more doing each flourish until you can describe it and/or break down its parts in the manner you will immediately recall.

When we do the class we give them a sample dance card just for basic or rhythmic so they see the concept but still have to do their own.

Yes you can secondarily use them for performance dance combos but that's really just the secondary use for them and its harder to put a combo together that way than it is to know the flourishes well enough yourself.

Btw good job Goldy. If you needed extra instructors I could make myself on your server for the class if I'm not booked and you have your notes.

Also there IS a difference in Basic flourish 7 and Basic flourish 8. How many times will you do the flourishes to see it?

Very nice, Goldy! These were actually a lot better-phrased than the ones I currently have, I'm defenitely going to be modifying mine to addtiming & some of your wording.

While I agree you should do this yourself to get the most out of the flourishes.

HOWEVER.... probably 98% of all dancers WILL NOT do this. Some of them may inteded to do this but it is very time consuming. This seriously took me a week of trying every night to time each of these flourishes and give them each names in between leading a group and giving buffs to customers. Most dancers play a couple hours every night like I doand it wasa definate chore and that leads me to believe not many will actually do this.

I'm sorry you do not agree with what I've done here but what I'm offering is in good faith to help dancers perform at their best. Not to rob them of learning experiences. I encourage folks to give them their own name if you read above and am not at all saying this is an end all be all flourish list. I believe this list is beneficial to dancers and the link remains.

Yup..you can see how quick I've been to create my own Like most dancers who like performing and mixing and have done this for a while, I've got them all pasted firmly in my mind's eye. But Goldy's just given us a reference tool where the terms are shared..a standard.

No I DO appreciate what you've done and shared. I think its fantastic. Perhaps I needed more smiley faces. My belief though is you do not have to havepeople do the timing though and that was theonlyreally time consuming part. You can make a dance card pretty quickly without doing that.

In fact Sultrina's dance school dance card info doesn't make mention of the timing breakdowns when she introduces the concept. (Because I certainly didn't come up with it)

Timing is a real pain in the behind and its great to have standards of reference for that. I say share the timing with everyone is great but people really should do each flourish and look at them if they want to expand more of their knowledge, esp students. It really doesn't take too long.

technically it was a moonwalk in basic and just went right instead of left. So I was only half right.

document corrected to include new flourishes and the theatrical dance.

again this is just a guide, the timing may be different for you. You will need to play with your performances.

I am a new Master Dancer, and I have a question about how to put together a macro that flows smoothly and also gives the mind buff in a reasonable amount of time (not 10 minutes).

So I guess my question is twofold.

First question, if you do a flourish that takes say 15 seconds to complete, do you type /flourish# and then /pause the number of seconds it takes to complete the flourish? Or do you /flourish# then /pause 6/7/8 or whatever number of seconds each time?

I know my mind buff takes 10 minutes teh way it is set up now, and I see other master dancers advertise their mind buff takes 5 minutes. How do you get it down from 10 to 5 minutes? and still have the dance flow smoothly? Im not talking about afk dancing. I only dance when I am on line to dance. So I really want it to flow but also give the mind buff in as short a time as possible. Those guys are anxious to get out and kill as fast as possible.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

its really difficult to keep the integrity of your performance and do a quick buff. It all depends on how many times you flourish. You flourish more and the buff is done faster. Check out www.swgentertainer.com they have good guides on how the buffing system works to give you a better sense on how to build your macro.
