Kinda makes us feel like the red headed step child huh?
Over 700 Exploiters? No Thanks.
Sony Online has continued efforts since launch to keep the EverQuestII game world free of players who use exploits to gain an unfair advantage, especially with bots and macros. Over 700 accounts were banned for various forms of cheating and exploiting during the past 2 weeks alone. It is our goal to continue investigations into suspicious in-game activity and ban accounts with violations.
"We'd like to thank our EverQuest II customers for all of their reports in rounding up these crews, and helping us show them they're not welcome in Norrath," said EverQuest II Senior Producer Scott Hartsman. "A few hundred 'bot subscriptions just aren't worth the money when compared to keeping the game fun for hundreds of thousands of people."
1. Do you leave the keyboard while your avatar is dancing?
*hangs head in shame* I have, but never, ever, everin the cantina, so as not to take business away from the ATK dancers. When I was just starting out, I got tired of looking at my low level dances, so I AFKdanced in my house to get new ones. And I haven't even done that in a looooong while.
2. What do you think is an acceptable amount of time to leave an avatar unattended while dancing?
While I'm in the cantina, I only ever leave to take a bathroom break or grab a glass of water, and I always announce that I'm leaving for a second. Anything longer than that, and I just sit my butt down and flip on the AFK tag.
3. Would you be willing to give up any degree of unattended play beyond the 15 minutes for theAFK flag to appear above your head?
Anything to rid the world of buffbots and AFK dancers who spam for tips.

1. Do you leave the keyboard while your avatar is dancing? No. Anyone that knows me knows that I dislike AFK entertainers, and I know that with my luck one of my friends/guildies would catch me while AFK
. But besides that, I don't use macros, so it would be pointless for me to try. Needless to say, it's taking me forever to gain xp.
2. What do you think is an acceptable amount of time to leave an avatar unattended while dancing? I would say enough time to take care of minor emergencies, potty breaks, etc. Maybe 15-20 minutes. If anything is going to take longer than that, I think the dancershould stop dancing, and if possible, move to a corner or away from other dancers/musicians. I understand there are circumstances that don't allow you the time to do this (something catches on fire, medical emergencies, etc.), but in general, I think it's a good rule to follow.
3. Would you be willing to give up any degree of unattended play beyond the 15 minutes for theAFK flag to appear above your head. Absolutely. Since I don't use macros, unattended dancing isn't something I'm personally concerned with.

Hmm, instead of bringing over the EQ2 combat team, they should have instead brought over the team that made policy.

yes

I believe that AFK entertainers enhance the game and make it possible for non-entertainers to have a better experience. Try finding entertainers to get buffs who are live. I play on a bunch of different servers and some are almost impossible to find.

I will drop the profession if unable to AFK. Or if I can't use macros to run my flourishes when I am live, I will drop the profession. I know that I am in the minority here but with the CU, it sounds like we will be so pointless that I am not sure what benefit we will bring to the game. Making Musician harder to play by forcing me to do all my flourishes by hand just isn't worth it. And if buffs retain any value, I can assure you that the vast majority of players who are the fighters are going to complain pretty loudly if buffs go away because you can't find any entertainers.

[apologies in advance, I know this is an official poll and not a discussion thread, but I can't let this slide]
Since the AFKbots were the prime cause that drove live entertainers out of the cantinas, this argument is circular and invalid. AFKers drove us out, and we're fighthing to drive you out in turn. We should provide a service to non-entertainers, but we should also have a valid play choice and style of our own. The cantinas are meant to be a place for entertainers to entertain, not fight robots, that's the DWB. It's not like Live entertainers all gave up, and the Bots came to fill the empty cantinas. Your words ring false, rethink them.
1. Do you leave the keyboard while your avatar is playing music?
Once every hr, I actually take a break to stretch my legs, use the bathroom, get somethign to drink, ect.
2. What do you think is an acceptable amount of time to leave an avatar unattended while playing music?
5-10 mins max, depending on how many people are in the cantina (Less people = more time, More people = less time)
3. Would you be willing to give up any degree of unattended play beyond the 15 minutes for the AFK flag to appear above your head.
IMHO, Take AFK out of the game!

Just curious to see where we stand on this topic. This poll was started by Esharra on the Dancer forum, and it was suggested we have our own happening here on Musician; I'll combine my results with Esharra's when it's time to tally everything up.

never

I think that when someone have to go AFK he have to sit and stop performing, also it could happen something unexpected that force a player to go AFK for a very short time, that can be ok, but should be nothing more than just a couple of mins.
3. Would you be willing to give up any degree of unattended play beyond the 15 minutes for the AFK flag to appear above your head.
15 mins is even too much IMO, 5 mins should be enought
AFKers killed this profession (and other entertainer ones), is not just a problem of income for "missing" buffs, but for me is mostly what cantinas have become witht hem... more than an year ago it was nice to play in cantinas, to group with other performers to do some nice music, to chat with them and with people that come to heal their mind.
Cantinas where very friendly places andwas fun to play a musician even if the income was not very high.
Now all that atmosphere is gone, the halls (or better the entrace) is full of zombie AFKers and buffbots and people don't stop anymore chatting a bit and enjoying the company of other player but they just come in, enter in the bot group for 5mins (maybe goin afk) and it's done.
....everything done to prevent AFK play is good.
