Thread: OMG they nerfed bodysuits!!!
"I don't think you are being very polite or sensitive calling people bible thumpers and religious whackos either."
Did I call people "Bible Thumpers" or "Religious Whackos"??? I think not. I remember calling them "religious fundamentalists" and people from the "Bible Belt". I'm afraid you're assuming that I'm flinging insults when I'm merely characterizing anddrawing generalizations. Generalizations can be general, and sometimes less than flattering, but please don't assume I'm insulting folks when I'm not. Thanks.
Ah, now I see it. Yes, I did call them 'Bible Belt Wackos' (not 'whackos'). Okay, I apologise to Bible Belt folks throughout the Bible Belt. Not all of them are wackos. I'm sure some of them - perhaps even a majority -are as sane as you or I. I wouldn't bet money on it, but I guess it's possible.
Let's not take things too seriously, shall we? Take a deep, cleansing breath, and slowly exhale while saying "we don't have to take Beery's posts so seriously".
im kinda glad that only certain beaches are nude.i dont care to witness some 45 yr old , 70 lbs overweight, nursed 5 kids of a woman sprawled out on the sand commando style. I DO find that offensive, LOL.
LOL, Twinkles - I was going to say something about that. When I see a very overweight lady in orange stretch pants, I want to do a makeover so badly ... And anyone who's been in lady's restrooms knows that there are SOME things that should never be seen in public ![]()
Beery, FYI, I live in the Bible Belt. I'm also a whacko. Not a religious whacko, because I'm areligious. But I am certifiable
And while I agree with your basic point about nudity, I also think SOE has the right to protect themselves and to preserve the image of their online games to lure a wider strata of players in -- if they made it into an adult game, most of their subscribers would beineligible right away. I'd still play it, you'd play it, but the 70% or so who are under the age of 18 would find it much tougher to justify to Mom.
"...Oh, and by the way, people who live in the Bible Belt who claim that nudity is offensive ARE wackos. That's not an insult - it's a statement of fact..."
That is not a statement of fact. That is subjective and a matter of personal opinion. It may bethat one's personal belief system esteems discretion when it comes to nudity, and another may feel it isperfectly normal and acceptable to bare your john brown hindquarters at the local Starbucks coffee shop(I use "your" in general terms here). Neither view is wacko. Just different. Well, actually, I would tend to think Mr Starbucks is a little wacko, but I think you get where I'm coming from.
disclaimer: I don't find nudity offensive.. well, except in cases where the nudity on display is not pleasing to look upon
(sorry to any obsese folks out there... but we have a fat problem in the USA.. but that's another thread)
"...I stand by my earlier statement (which I notice you were careful to takeout of context)..."
Perhaps ... I wasn't careful enough to keep it within context.
I don't deliberately try to twist words to suit my benefit. I admit, while at work, I don't read carefully enough because I'm doing 7 things at once and comprehension is sometimes thrown to the wind. I will be more careful in responding as it is rude of me to skim read and then respond incorrectly. So, I do apologize for that Beery.
Cheers & Best Regards,
Twinkles Centauri
Beery first this is not ment to be an insult. For starters a way to get ppl to listen to you is to NOTdowngrad there realigion. Thats really a bad No No. You can insult many ppl by doing that. Two you have a lot of points, good points. I dont agree with them but in context there good points.....you also have said alot you have no clue about. Example would be the law-suit being laughable. Its not. Its very possible that Sony got a few calls from people saying this was going to become a legal issue. Another thing nudity may be fine to you, the suit may not be actually nude, but grab your game box and look on the back....ESRB gave it a teen rating. Nudity is not allowed in a teen rated product. ESRB raters may not have seen this suit in its offensive form.(theres no way they can see every aspect of the game it would take quite a few years and still soem thign would be overlooked) Now this puts the product in violation of its rating. Whats better playing with-out a nude liek suit or not playing at all. Its really downgrading to dancers. And from the mouth of a "Bible belt wacko" children of the teen age and below seeing this IS wrong, for the reason that nudity as an art is not wrong in my opinion, but the ppl owning these suits used them to prefrom sexual actions to the ppl in the tavern. This is wrong. And heck you said you didnt own one. Whats your problem? SOE is just playing it safe. Thats there ability as the Devs. So if you think its wrong or not its not your choice, there not going to change it back, and for the love of all thats good in this world...err galaxy every point of this issue has been made. Drop it already.
((Goes and crawls back in his "Bible-belt wacko" home.))
ESRB gave it a teen rating. Nudity is not allowed in a teen rated product.
Rated teen by ESRB doesn't mean anything in Europe, hun.
This game is being sold without import charges and without any mention from the nice person who works at my local Dynabyte shop that I bought an American game. In Europe rating Teen is the same as rating something for 16 years and older.
And the box also reads violence, parental guidance, so watch your kids, you know they are playing because they used your creditcard to sign up and very likely buy this game as well.
And to break the news to you, studies point out that most children learn about sexuality before they are thirteen, in britain there recently was a disturbing study about children under 10 years old who had sexual experiences and some even got pregnant from them, the figures kind of shocked poor little me.
I wonder how some of you people would react if you went to a big European car show where dozens of body painted women walk around completely naked.
If you're ever in a European hotel make sure to watch your kids during the day and don't let them watch TV, not even some religious affiliated broadcast channels, you might get a shock from our liberal values.
Children programs that demonstrate how to have sex and DEMONSTRATING it using inflatable dolls, explaining all the words and showing how to do felatio at 7pm on sunday, you might not like it here.
I started this game just this week but allready had a fun incident, I was running with my lady friend to a fashion house on tattoine and we were followed by some guy and suddenly my friend shouts no clothes is better and strips to her underwear and promptly i do the same, shortly after that we reach the fashion house and my friend tries on some clothes and asks me what i think, so i give my opinion. This guy was just having fun I guess then I shattered his illusion and asked him if he played tomb raider, he said yeah and I used the nude patch. So I take out my gun and apologise for not having a backpack.
We all laughed our asses off and shortly after he logged out and I talked some with my friend, laughing about it and she also had to logout and I went back to Mos Eisley, laughing all the way.
My point is, if it's not this game then it's the next that taught them a thing or two and other games have worse nudity cheats this the thing in this whole discussion.
Now I'm all done talking, this whole discussion is just laughable, just like when i shattered that guy's illusion, hey dude wake up, it's just a game, some pixels on a screen. Try searching the web, you'd be shocked at what you can find with a innocent keyword, warning parental guidance, ack we better sue and get rid of it all ![]()
Hang in there hun, it's a men's world.
Just to shock Pickles, I'll keep this going ![]()
I bought a new pair of infiltrator pants tonight, in the new brilliant red color. I have to say - I like what they've done to the textures. It actually looks like pants now instead of a red-dyed body
I'll have to slip into my black bodysuit and see what it looks like - but not til after I reinstall the beta copy of the other game I've been tinkering with. (PS - I hate idiot programmers who hard-code folder trees into their software!)
BTW, those of you who really don't like the change to the bodysuits/leggings, there is a thread going on the Tailor board. It's still on page 1 if you want to go look-the Tailoring correspondant has complained to the devs already.
Anyway, look up that thread for more info, I skimmed it so can't give any details.

That may be true, but the American "values" still hold sway. Sure, the Americans didn't invent Puritanism, but they sure do hang onto it tightly enough. That's why I applaud a large company for going against those "values," such as Disney offering benefits to homosexual life partners.
However, a lot of large companies don't want to risk the wrath of its consumers or the attention of the extremely litigious court system (after all, the term ambulance chaser is applied to lawyers because of the stereotypical way they latch onto any easy case they can win).
And what's Sony going to do? Risk losing customers as parents cancel their children's subscriptions or risk annoying people who supported the bodysuit? I doubt anyone is canceling his account over the bodysuit issue. If you are going to do so, be sure to let SOE know this, as I'm sure they'll be surprised. And likely, that won't compare to the threat of angry parents (not limited to the Bible belt either) canceling subscriptions.
America has some really screwed up systems in place. As I'm sure Americans are the largest market for Sony right now, guess who they're going to listen to. It won't matter that Europeans are enlightened enough to joke about sexuality without a horrified gasp. The American dollar has a strong influence over companies, especially American companies who also have to worry about the courts.
It does make me envy Europe and Canada though. *sigh*

Hmmm, Microsoft announced they are closing MSN chatrooms and forcing you to sign up and pay with a Credit Card, todays news... You'd think it make any difference ?
This game is behind credit card and it's allready rated PG and violence, in Europe that is a PG rating with a FIST icon, which is the same target audience and age group that is warned for sexual content by the FOOTY icon on movies or video games... I wonder how SOE is going to handle it's European release.
I for one am glad that poor little me does not have to make decisions like that.
