Yesterday afternoon I went to the Theed cantina and danced for about 45-60 mins before logging to make dinner. There were 4 of us there, one other experienced Master dancer and 2 fairly new people. The 4 of us formed a square and did some sync dancing with some synched effects.
There was also a buffbot who parked her scrawny carcass in the corner and went into spam mode which we all prompty put on ignore. Initially there was a crowd gathered round her. But I started making fun of bots and people who would get too near one and the effects that patronizing bots has on male vilirity and so on.
By the time some of the others had to log and I had to leave to make dinner we had a pretty good crowd around us. We were getting a lot of positive feedback and I had made just over 150k in tips. Oh and btw,I didnt do any buffs during that time. Nor to my knowledge did any of the other 3 dancers except one quick buff one of them did just as I arrived.
I'm sure the skag in the corner handled most of the buffs. But in at least one instance, one of the patrons of the buffskag tipped me 8k. I started talking to him privately and he confessed that he Hadn't tipped the bot at all but gave us what he had been planning to tip her.
THAT is how you defeat buffskags.
You dont fight the enemy on ground of Their choosing. You dont let THEM make the rules. They have a clear advantage right now in buffing due to game mechanics. So dont fight in that arena. Fight in the one in whichthey CAN'T compete.
Not every entertainer is comfortable with or experienced with that kind of verbal sparring. Some are, in fact, very shy. And that's fine. There's many ways to entertain with being brash and forward like I am.
Take some time to learn some jokes. Spend some time reading the forums of other professions so that you can comment intelligently on THEIR concerns. Get to know the names of Prominent members of different professions and keep up with their doings. Get to know different guilds and what they are up to. Find something positive to say about different guilds when you see a member of one of them. Learn the names of guild leaders so you ask a guild member... How is so-and-so doing? Learn to make fun of yourself and poke fun at everyone equally.
Think of it as preparing for a performance. Unless you're very skilled and experienced dont think you can simply walk into a crowd cold and start perfoming in a way thats going to attract and hold interest. Like any profession Entertaining takes skill, practice and some work.
If all you want to do is Buff while you chat with the other entertainers in Group or Chat fine. Then sit and wait for the buffskags to go away which they might do in time. Thats what I refer to as ATK buffbots. If you consider the term an insult, well fine.I consider it simply a descriptive term myself.
But if you're NOT willing to go out and do battle with the buffskags on ground of YOUR choosing, then dont complain if you stay broke and dont complain that the buffskags are taking all your busines.. if you CHOOSE to compete in a playing field where they hold all the advantages then dont be surprised or upset at the outcome.

Drygo, trust me,Sirii means well. Sometimes shemay comeoff as being snooty, but that isn't her intent. She and I don't see eye to eye on some issues, however, she is not the type totake cheap shots at fellow entertainers. I feel sure she was actually wanting to be helpful and thought she was being playful.

Panthu, I'm warning you, you may very well have to report this thread today. It's taking all in my power not to be nasty right now.
Yeah, that was a nasty one. I flinched when I read it last night. Particularly odd considering that you did so well for so long even after everyone else abandoned the NPC Cantinas. Ah well, some people will react the same way no matter what the actual facts are. ![]()
I've only been skimming this thread. I'll go back and re-read it all in one sitting if you say it needs modding though. Go ahead and report anything you need to as always of course. ![]()

"THAT is how you defeat buffskags."
We defeat them by convincing the devs they're a bad thing so they'll remove them from the game. Done.
I don't get what the argument is. Are you saying, because you guys can make money that it's OK for the buffbots to exist? Leave them in the game?
I hate these threads where entertainers come out and try to convince others that their problem with not making credits is simply because they don't know how to entertain. It's condescending and insulting. I cringe for Drygo. The formula for success in this profession isn't as cut and dried as you would lead others to believe. It's complicated by race, sex, attitude, approach to the customers, even the clothing you wear. There are some things that people can't change and some things they won't. There are many playstyles within the entertainer professions, all just as valid as the other. And they're all being adversely affected by buffbots, though perhaps in different ways.
I simply don't understand why this thread has proceeded along these lines. It has outlived its purpose to me. Time for it to die.

Wow, what an unbelievably frustrating thread when people who do not buff for the public nor make any money from providing master level buffs want to "advise" or "critique" someone who does and has been on the issue.
I share your pain Drygo. I get this a lot in another forum. *shrug* Shake it off man. What's said here has little to do with our Patron Interactions in game.
To the earlier comment that the Master Dancer List should be kept on the Server Forums and would do more good there, yes, I agree. Some Galaxy Forums are doing this. The one in the SS forum got stickied even.
