Thread: Player Correspondent Opening: Dancer

I know myself enough to understand that while I understand and have some knowledge of the history of the professions, this alone is not enough to be a correspondent. I do hope that the one who does become our next correspondent understands what their role is, and what it is not. We shall not be led by our correspondent. We shall be served by our correspondent.
anyway!
/cheer Shi'ann
/cheer Esharra
/cheer everyone else too!

I put in an ap for the position. I figure it might be worthwhile since I am a software developer.
If you understood the job, you'd know that being a software developer will be about 100% useless.

I don't think being a software developer would be 100% useless in being a correspondent. On the contrary, it would certainly help to be able to wade through some of the specs that might come across a correspondents path. I realize most of a correspondents task is to bridge the gap between the developers (or powers that may be) and the players. I probably don't meet the popularity requirements to get the correspondent position anyways but felt it would be something I would be good in and could devote a fair amount of time to.

While it's probably true that someone who is "known" might find it easier to get the flow going withour forum member base as a new corr, don't mistake this with a popularity contest. Nor should anyone else. Panthu didn't consider herself among the "popular" members when she applied and was accepted for the DC position. Yet, she was a fabulous representativeof our profession to the developers. This really isn't about who is more "liked" by the dancers. Remember, the devs want someone they can work with, as well. They are the ones who make the decision.
As I see it, the only problem the devs could run into in choosing ourcorrespondentwould be if theytapped a known buffbot owner. ![]()

That would actually make perfect sense from SOE's point of view... *shudder*

Thanks, you just gave me another thing to worry about

I wonder if they'd try to macro our correspondant...

Very true Kirah hon, people may look back at the Correspondents in the entertainer professions and say, hey, their all popular, you must need to be popular to get the job. But none of the Correspondents in the Dancer profession could of been considered popular when they got the job really. Being a Correspondent can be a good way to get popular.... it can also be the quickest way to get yourself generally hated by everyone. You might get to be more popular if you do a really good job and the community likes you... or you might end up getting death threats and hate mail if they don't, lol.
Being passionate about the profession and being very knowledgable about the profession are helpful, but what most don't get or don't understand is the single most important thing for this job is being able to be impartial and being able to make decisions based on what the majority of the Dancers want.
You think the exotics should be fleshed out and finished before a goofy dance like Tumble is added? IT doesn't matter what YOU think when your the Correspondent. Got lots of great ideas? Good for you, if the majority of the community likes them then you can share them with the Devs, if not, stuff your ideas, they aren't important.
Having lots of great ideas, being a software designer.. whatever... none of that matters for this job. This job is about you being impartial and being the voice of the majority of your community, even if your not with that majority. All that passion you have needs to be kept in check too when speaking to the Devs.. I've seen all too many Correspondents make the mistake of being too passionate and end up being told to basically shut up by the Devs cause they dont' want to hear it.
Organization, Impartiallity, Patience and the ability to put your feelings on the back burner is what this job is about. If you can handle that, go for it and give it a shot. If that doesn't sound like you, don't even bother you'll just be wasting everyones time.

Yah, but who would apply if they were a buffot?
I mean, according to popular opinion (mine as well) a buffbot owner wouldn't care enough about the profession to want the job.
As has been said several times, it's not about being charge, it's about serving your fellow players. And not just Dancers mind you... What happens to Dancers affects all the combat professions as well. So the correspondant needs to keep in mind the overall game balance as well as the needs of our profession.

I couldn't have said it better meself. All our opinions, good or bad, don't mean beans without the numbers to back them. And those numbers come from the community.

I couldn't tell from your earlierpost if Shi'ann had actually applied. That's why I made the suggestion that I did.

I know how the forums workYou dont apply by posting in this thread, you apply directly to Tiggs, which Shi'ann did. But in Tiggs post they say they will monitor this thread so in a way I get a vote to support whom I believe is best suited for our profession at this time in SWG. Its a tough time we may be facing post CU, I feel Shi is the one with the vision to help us shape us and where we are going. I get an opinion just as you do.

Yes, I had been talking to Lum shortly before then and mentioned that I had decided to try for the position, and she wanted to show a little support by making a post here. Thanks for the encouragement Lum, and Dori too!
And this line "and set a positive tone." gives me pause just enough pause that I think better of it. As there is no doubt in my mind that I would be unable to set a positive tone(lie) if what I saw going on behind the scenes left me with a less then positive or hopeful feeling.
