Thread: Pro/Anti AFK/Bot/Macro All Purpose Sticky
Hmm, interesting. I'm glad I came and caught up on this. Based on the conversation I read, I am inclined to believe Aeschyl. Why? Because he's willing to take his main character, who is apparently a pretty badass BH, and turn him into a dancer. I don't know about your server, but on mine, if one of our big-name combat types ACTIVELY started playing an entertainer - on the character they were formerly using forfighting - they'd get no end of torture. If I have this all wrong, and it's not his main BH character that's now doing entertainer, just slap me and say 'shut up Fuschia'. ![]()
And I'm also rather pleased to know that I am not the ONLY one who has a potty mouth. ![]()
I am not doing Dancer on Aeschyl (the account is now cancelled) - but it is no secret that Abinadi = Aeschyl to the server of Chilastra
so yes, everyone does know that "Aeschyl dropped BH for Dancer" ![]()

Hoorah.
I just got out of boot camp in Chicago (damn it is cold there). I am glad to see at least one person changing his/her views on bots.
Hoorah BH turned Dancer.
But there was a poll recently here about what we considered a reasonable "AFK" period. If I remember right, nearly everyone stated that in a sane and normal world that didn't have long-term AFKing, 10 - 15 minutes was reasonable to be AFK without obsessing over making sure you've stopped performing. Long enough to deal with quick IRL issues without having to go through the relogin, not long enough to really accumulate much exp/credits while unattended.
Mostly when we as a community refer to "AFKing," we are referring to characters that are chronically unattended for a half hour or more (i.e. longer than the maximum timeout time you can choose in the options).
I don't feel comfortable gauging what most people consider "unattended," but for myself I consider a character to be unattended if people get no reply from directed spatial speech (barring things like spam making you not able to tell someone s talking, the person being on ignore, that kind of thing of course). Meaning tabbed out, playing another instance, asleep with your forehead on the desk, reading a book.... if you are incapable of responding to standard environmental stimuli then you're unattended.
The impact of rampant unattended avatars being more successful than attended ones, the image it portrays to non-entertainers, the hate and derision it gets us from the players who *don't* have the option of unattended success, the things it allows people to do and still recieve services, the cheapening of the value of the entertainer services, etc. etc... Those are the problems we have with AFK, not necessarily the act of hopping up to go get a glass of water or feed the cat.

As it is..he gave away the bot 4 months ago and that was before I came to know him.
Which is probably why, if this was someone I knew and had become friends with, I might be having those same kind of "torn" feelings that you have. I'm not completely heartless. But, I know that if it was one of those who botted right up to the end, and harassed, and had flame wars, and belittled...then no way, jose.
Also remember Drygo it isn't the bot that is now becoming an ent. This person is taking their main character, a very successful BH, and making it into the ent. So they are giving up their main profession to assume ours and that is a huge step in thePVP circles.
