"Wow, I will never understand why people don't like AFK macroers."

Lol...have you read any part of this thread at all? It's not a secret...the reasons are numerous and clearly delineated within this thread. Please read some of it

But on a personal note, let me add this....

How would you like it if a robot replaced you in your real life job?

In other words your services would not longer be needed, or nevertheless watered down, by the sudden availability of these robots who are able to perform the same services you provide.

Why don't we make BH and commando bots and place them in central location in every city so that when people looking for groups need them, all they have to do is go this location and pick them up, FREE OF CHARGE!

...AND

However you cut it, the analogy does apply, no?

The problem is we have different definitions of what our profession does. Some people think we are just healers, a copy class of medics except we affect the mind pool. To those people I may be able to understand why they think that afk macroers could be bad.

However our class is entertainer, not healer. We are there to entertain. Is an afk macroer very entertaining? I don't think so. If they could write an NPC that could flirt and carry a conversation with a player while dancing to heal their mind or to give them a buff, GO FOR IT. That would be an incredible step in the field of Strong AI.

For your commando and BH remark. Have ever seen pets, or faction pets?

I don't quite follow your line of thinkinghere Craigins. From what perspective are you trying to convey your point? Why would these type of people think that AFK macroers could be bad?IMO, It is exactly thesetype of people who think AFK macroers are good. In other words, the fact that theres a real person behind the character has very little significance to them. They do not care tosocialize with an entertainer. All they care about is the healing aspect that the entertainer provides. So that anAFK macroer suits them just fine.Hence they should think AFK macroing as good not bad.

Your point is well taken andoverall, I agree with what you are trying to convey in this paragraph. However, there is one small point in the paragraph that i take issue with. Ican't speak for you sir, but I'm a Master Dancer.I am, in fact, fully capable and qualifiedofhealing any player'swounds, shock,and/or fatigue.Iwould think that this small ability, does infact qualify me as a healer. And yes, I am"also" an entertainer. The way I see it though, I am an entertainerat heart and by desire, and a healer by definition. By definition, weall canheal, provided we work on our skills to do so, we can not however all entertain.

For your commando and BH remark. Have ever seen pets, or faction pets?

Are pets or faction pets player controlled characters? Can their servicesbe replaced by bots?

They prevailing theme of my post is the negative repercusions caused byAFK macroers as it applies to the services that we provide asentertainers.Your analogy, Ithink you will agree after giving it some thought, is notapplicable under the circumstances.

This is what a CSR said in regard to unattended macro-ing

http://ourworld.cs.com/kelisw/myhomepage/profile.html

[sorry about the cheesy page my FTP was not working and i just used a free page and copied this post to it for the heck of it. The only thing about the screenshot that has been tampered with is the blocking out of my name - i dont want to get griefed in-game from all the afkmacroers im about to enrage]

For those of you who seem to want to think that the macroes the eula is talking about is only in regard to other programs,I asked a CSR about it and i have a screenshot of their response. Basically he says that it is against there policy to use macroes for unattended gameplay but they arent enforcing it right now due to other priorities but that i can feel free to report them. I havent reported anyone yet but you guys who insist it is ok are dead wrong. And there are many who will report you.

I have been wondering why people even try to make excusesfor afk dancing. It doesnt matter WHY you do it - its in violation of the EULA -period. You are not supposed to do it. If you do you are breaking the rules plain and simple.

Ultima Online has a macro system very very similiar to this one. You can set up macroes for any action in game BUT they serverly and swiftly punish those who do it unattended. All anyone has to do is ask that person a question. If they dont answer they are reported. So just because you CAN doesnt mean you SHOULD. Its not OK because they have the macro system built in - the macro system is supposed to be used to make things easier and more convienient for you WHILE YOU ARE AT YOUR KEYBOARD.

Not only is it against policy but it has sucked the life out of cantinas, cheapened entertainers everywhere, steals healing xp and tips from those who really work for it, and the respect for master dancers everywhereis lessened, even those who actually worked for it.

As for those who say its a service - how many times have u looked up a medic to come to the med center when there was no one there. Its such a feeling of gratitude when one comes that i tip them better and try to make a new friend. Now imagine that there was a medic-bot in every med center and anytime you wanted to be healed u could just go walk in and they would automatically heal u free of charge and no trouble on your side. Sure it would be nice for you but can you imagine how that would feel to doctors? What it would do to the Doctor profession? They wouldnt get near as many tips, or tells asking them to come heal them, or respect from people who are grateful for your service. And they would loseSO much xp to the med-bot. Now THAT is exaclty what has happened to the entertainer profession. And its getting worse. The only way to stop it is to start reporting them.

Toppdog,

The problem with that is that a 'casual' gamer who afk macroes will level faster than even the most hardcore rpg-er who doesnt afkmacro. So are u saying that if you play LESS you are entitled to make more xp faster?

I dont consider myself a hardcore gamer but i know i have never afk-ed macro once and i leveled through dancing pretty fast but i have seen many who use the 'dont have time to play' excuse get caught up to me and pass me within days. For someone who doesnt have time to play very much they sure are in that cantina alot.

And it also hurts them because alot of people make fun of the afk-ers - they emote things to them and say things to make them look absoulty ridiculous so even when this 'casual' gamer decided to poke his head up from the hole hes been macroing in he'll already have a reputation that has proceeded him as a ridiclous loser who cheated his way through the game. I know i sure wouldnt want that thought about me just for a lil extra xp.

Experience is measured in more than just points - i woudnt want to group with a doctor who just made master in a couple weeks cause he macroed his way there - where would be his combat experience and healing experiencde. Same with an afk macroer dancer - i dont even consider them real dancers becuse since they obviously dont want to hang around the cantina and talk to people when they finall make master they dont have the qualities of a true entertianer. They just want to be uber with thier little master sign over there head and act like they earned it. While the novice dancer whose been working her butt off is much much more 'expereinced'
