It's both and neither. People's definitions differ on those terms. It's a party, a get together for entertainers, and when entertainers get together they tend to like to put on a show.

Come, be yourself. Help put on a show if you like, grind with a partner if you like, sit in a corner and drink if you like. Roll the dice and gamble if you like. All it's really about is having fun, meeting new people, and doing it at the keyboard.

Maybe THIS is where the confusiton lies for me and others.

Is a Cantina Crawl a SHOW being RUN by someone?

Or is it a party/get-together for Entertainers?

Obviously I think of it as the latter. Draygo apparentlythinks of itas the former.. I've never been to a party or social events wherepeople were expected to.... in Draygo's words...'follow quite simple instructions.'

Maybe someone like Javier needs to expond on that a little so there is a common understanding of just what the Catina Crawls ARE becasue we are clearly using different definitions.

It's Drygo

But, yes, I agree with Javier, it's both. One big reason why I consider these things to be fun is because of the in sync dancing, which is why groups are divided up as they are. I only started going to the Cantina Crawls at #6 (I think). So, for me, they've always been about putting on a show. It wouldn't be nearly as fun if there weren't 10+ people doing the same flourishes at the same time. This is the type of thing I live for as an entertainer. Because, quite frankly, if all I wanted to do is "get together" and "chat" I can do that on /ent chat. I do not have to have my avatar physically there. I always thought the point of having the avatars together was to do something interesting--like sync dancing. Otherwise, I can go off and work on other skills, or dance in a Cantina and get healing experience that I need, but listen and participate in /ent chat. What advantage does having the avatars get together in the same room have if we're not doing the interesting things, and showing an audience the things we can do? Do you think the people who watched us at the Coronet Starport in Cantina Crawl 7 would have been nearly as awed by us if we weren't putting on a show but were merely dancing around doing our own thing like everybody does in the Cantinas these days? Nobody walks into a random cantina and says "Wow! Look, that guys doing popular, and that one over there is doing basic2, that's amazing!" Of course, they don't, the audience wants to see us strut our stuff and do something cool and interesting. I always thought the point of goingfrom Cantina to Cantina (ie, a crawl), was to have different people in different towns watch us. Otherwise, why not simply just findONE Cantina, wear whatever you want, dance whatever dance you want, and stay there? I'm not sure I see the point.

PS. What I wrote above is just a huge part of why I consider the Cantina crawls to be fun. And a big part of that just happens to be the "performance." And, I would be very disappointed if the "performance" were taken out of the crawls. Doesn't mean I wouldn't go, just means it wouldn't be as fun for me. Of course, I agree with all those who have said that if you come to a crawl and don't want to wear the exact same outfit, or even do the same dance, by all means, don't do those things. But, continue to come to the crawls and have fun. I'd never want this to be some sort of an exclusive event where you were required to "follow orders."

For a change, i'm going to agree, and support Euclase.

Me and Shiseji chose to show up overt, in our respective factional armors, with NPC support. What wouldn't be cooler than a Storm Trooper and a rebel marine setting aside their differences to jam on his guitar and dancer her little dance? Unfortunatly, in the musician group, that was not the case.

In the very beginning, I was actually approached by one of the people making a film, who thought that the ST armor was really cool. Later in the evening, i recieved a tell (don't remember the name, sadly) saying i was an excellent roll player, which supprised me, since i didn't intend to roll play, but was more than welcome. Me and shi even had a galactic civil war dance off (rebellion won... footloose 2 just doesn't cut it against basic 2). 3 members of ST showed up and we had a ball.

What was the problem? I was told by mieux (i'm going from memory, actual text will differ slightly) after i had joined up with the musician line "what are you doing?" Towhich I said (jokingly, after it was annouced i'd be filed/screen capptured, since ST armor is pure white) "blending in inconspiciously." To this, i got "leave the line, we are going to be filmed." This really pissed me off, since it is quite humorous to have an ST playing a guitar, and i was forced to make my own fun.Have we lost sight of a CC being a place of fun and NOTabout a video? Not to insult mieux, or anyone else whowas forcingpeople to wear a uniform, but you have lost the spirit of entertain-ment. Many peoplesaid the equivlent of "Holycrap, astormtrooper playing a guitar." That was entertainment. Wearing a black vest is not.

Mieux, a few things i'd like to get out of the way:

1) Me and shiseji decided to coordinate with factional armor. This demonstartes something called "creativitiy" and makes it much easier to really entertain people (such as randomly checking for spice users). Since, ya know, being entertainers and all, I felt that it would help me entertain... not trying to feed my ego by standing out (we have neon purple hotpant claid men to do that)
2) I read what you said as being rather curt. You told me not to join up with the line since we were being filmed, and, not feeling the need to **edit** as much as I usually do, I just left
3) I changed into the shirt/vest, kept the black skirt on for all of 5 minutes so that i could actually participate without being harrassed
4) Outfits have been provided any most of the CCs, yet I have never been asked/forced to wear one just to have fun. Not once. Never. Why did this need to be different?

In some ways this was one of the funnest (mostly since i had to make my own fun) yet most disappointing CCs (since I was forced to make my own fun like i do the other 6 days of the week).

MIEUX Said:

'there are people out there who MUST stand out and who are more interested in having their way than in having fun.'

----------------------------

And I think THAT is where you and I part company totally.

Maybe you and I have very different experiences in the Entertainment world both in Here and in r/l. I have yet to meet an Entertainer who does NOT want to Stand Out.

By Definition an Entertianer is someone who will stand up in front of a lot of people and Perform.Someone who enjoys the attention and being IN the spotlight. If they DONT then they are going to make a pretty poor entertainer.

And you imply that having fun and having thier own way are mutually exclusive which I find a little.. bizarre. So... we can only have fun if we.. cooperate and do as we're told?Interesting perspective on life in general and entertaining in particular. I'll bet the parties you give are really interesting. Do you assign different people to different groups to converse.. assign specific ones to mingle and others to stand by the punch bowl? lol

None of us mind working in a group. Nothing is quite asstriking as a group of dancrs all dressed alike dancing in Synch... BUT..

and it's a pretty BIG BUT... Theres a LOT more to entertianing, dancing, playing than standing in a chorus line and simply going mindless while someone else does our flourishes for us and tells us when to change dance and what outfit to switch to...

You're Darned right I want to stand out. Im a Dancer. Who the heck wants to be a Dancer that Doesn't stand out?????

Do I enjoy dancing in a group, in costume and in synch some of the time? Yep I sure do.. When a group of us decide that we want to do that for a while. And sometimes we say to the one who seems to be hot that day... You take over girl. Why? Becasue it makes us STAND OUT.

That real different though from walking in and being handed a costume and told to join a specific group and get in a specific line... or being asked 'Why aren't you cooperating?', 'What's your problem?'

Want to get MY nose out of joint?? its real easy. Walk up to me and start giving me orders without so much as a Please or Would you mind?Just give me orders as if you simply EXPECT me to comply.

Enough pointing fingers. Forget the last crawl.

Come to the crawl and do whatever you want, wear whatever you want. Crawls are about having a good time. Period. We provide pre-made outfits and get people into groups, not because we enjoy telling them what to do, but because most of them enjoy that. If you don't enjoy it, simply don't take an outfit, wear what you want and dance/jam wherever and however you wish.

Just don't step on the toes of the people who do enjoy looking coordinated, and don't get upset at them when they ask you to dance/jam somewhere else, because at that point you're ruining what they're trying to do. That is what I believe Mieux was trying to say.

It's a big cantina folks. There's plenty of room for everyone to have their own good time in their own way. At this point, this argument is tailspinning into semantics and arguing for the sake of arguing and it's becoming unhealthy.

Thats nice javier... if you are a dancer, you can go poplock/pop2/exotic3/whatever anywhere to your hearts content. However, i'm a musician. there are 12 of us. My only choice to avoid starwars2 (since we always have at least 1 low-rated ent) is to group with my droid, otherwise i'm forced to play my mandovil by myself. That sucks. It also sucks when I can't get play with a group because i felt the need to be creative, and not wear the standard clothes (which I understood to be for the crosserver/poor folks who couldn't afford decent clothing).

There's nothing we can do about the SW1&2 issue. It's just as unfair to tell a novice they cannot participate because the masters in their group want to play virtuoso. But you don't have to leave the group if you want to dress differently and they're trying to match, just stand away from them, or on the end.
