Thread: Dance Macro

What?

I don't think you can give passive buffs to people with whom you are not grouped. This would preclude AFK entertainers from doing it in all but very rare cases.
most afkers that i've seen have /join commands in their macro. pop into a cantina.. plop down in front of the entertainer and /invite them. free passive mind buff.
**edit**, what does any dancer that isn't chained to jabba's whatever have to do with star wars? pfft. poplock and footloose and every other dance has just as much to do with starwars as chefs.
"Poplock is the closest thing this game has to functional droids" - genius hahaha.
Hmm... I hadn't thought of that.
I imagine some would use that. I'd rather see ATK entertainers do the buffing. But I still don't see any need to have the game enforce that.
and i'd agree. i'd like to see the passive buff eliminated, and the active buff able to be set on multiple targets at once, (that would eliminate afk buffing) buti only want to see this because it would be convenient and aid the group.
"They're also damaging in that they're off asking the devs to code some way around AFK entertaining when they SHOULD be asking for new features like /denyGuild or /denyFaction or more dances or more flourishes, or all sorts of other stuff."
Excuse me, but if I'm not supposed to tell you how to play, where do you get off telling me what I should be asking for for my class?
Pot, kettle, black and all that jazz.

You want entertainer experience? You want tips? Stop your whining and go to the adventure worlds. You'll get both in spades.
SSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What are doing? You're giving away all the secrets on how to be a wealthy Entertainer!
Hmm... I hadn't thought of that.

More clarification for Sigrun:
You claim that nobody has the right to determine "what is or is not evil" and you turn around and decide that people telling you "how to play the game" are evil.
It readslike a very flawed argument to me.
I ain't getting involved...
Though gotta tell ya, the cantina in Theed, on Bloodfin tonight was like night of the living afkers... kinda spooky.
So, my question is this.. can I use /flo instead of typing /flourish?
Thanks..

You can ask for whatever you want to ask for. I'm just laying out a warning based upon past experience in other MMOG's and with this one. If you demand the developers spend their time attempting to eliminate AFK dancing and they listen (/prays they don't), you'll have convinced them to spend their time coding stuff that won't work. When instead you could be convincing them to code something that will work.
So if you could set the devs to a task for a month, which task would you pick:
- Eliminate (the benefit of) AFK Macros. But it's been proven again and again in this and other MMOG's that those who want to AFK will find a way to do it. This would be "defeated" within days of rolling out.
- Add New Class Features. Like better /deny controls (faction, guild maybe). Like more unique types of dances or different songs. Like different flourishes or effects. Like being able to register onesself in cantinas on adventure worlds. Or whatever else we come up with.
Which would you rather have? Given the dev load, we'll belucky to get ONE. We'll certainly not get BOTH.
Now the only "leap of faith" that we're making here is that any potentialfix for AFK would, in fact, be ineffective. But experience with MMOG's and macroers has shown that to be highly likely. AFK surveying still abounds, right? ![]()
You can pick either one you want and lobby to your heart's content. Me, I'd rather see devs spending their time being productive and enhancing my gameplay, rather than coding something that will be worked around in minutes.

Not if they put in something to eliminate the looping macro period, or do something to take away the "disable auto AFK" from the options, or make it so if you go AFK it turns the XP and the healing off.

As far as I know, you can register yourself with the cantina's.

I would rather them do away with the AFK. If someone gets a holocron stating they have to do dancer, why should they be able to WALTZ (no pun intended) their way up the dancing tree AFK and not have to spend one moment at the computer, while when (if we went on a hunting for holocrons) got one that stated that we had to go up Master Commando have to work our butt off to get that?

They won't eliminate the looping macro. That would also be a detriment to ATK entertainers as well as a host of other classes who want the game to do things repeatedly and/or automatically while they're ATK so they're free to concentrate on socializing or other reasonable things to be doing. Crafters would raise hell with this, and not just those still in the grind.
As to the detection of "auto-AFK", there are ways around that. I came up with two ideas just between reading this and typing my reply. Rest assured, any anti-macro code the devs come up with WILL be defeated. I offer up every MMOG to date as examples of this. There are too few dev hours and too many enterprising macroers for it to be otherwise.
- Add New Class Features. Like better /deny controls (faction, guild maybe). Like more unique types of dances or different songs. Like different flourishes or effects. Like being able to register onesself in cantinas on adventure worlds. Or whatever else we come up with.

Then you are yet another of the entertainers I have a problem with. You bitch and moan about AFK entertainers, yet this statement alone proves that youhave not even attempted to goto those out-of-the-way places and do your job there. You have the means to fix the problem yourself yet you complain that others should solve it for you. I would equate that mentality to that of the '70's era welfare moms who just kept spitting out babies because thegovenrment paid them more for each one.
That is my long-winded way of saying, I've been there. You cannot register with / in those cantinas.
Which would you rather have? Given the dev load, we'll belucky to get ONE. We'll certainly not get BOTH.

Whether or not you like how easy or difficult it will or will not be is irrelevant. The relevant fact here is that if the devs attempt to implement anti-AFK code, it will fail. They will be wasting time they could have otherwise spent making entertainer classes better in their failed attempt to make someone else's ingame life more difficult.
The thoughts you give words to hereshow you to be petty and destructive. I challenge you to be tolerant, constructive, and creative. And to use the tools you already have to "beat" the macro-tainers. Be better instead of being bitchy. ![]()
