Thread: If you want control, ask for more than the illusion of it.

I'm tired of hearing how complex the current process is and how much the customers hate it. I do many, many buffs and very rarely do they fail. My customer, even new players, have no problem understanding the process and newer players enjoy the interaction that is required to explain it to them. I don't know who you buff Sirii but my experiences don't match yours, so perhaps the anxiety isn't from the customer but from you. You don't have to buff, your choice, but thanks to the push to make them purely passive I now can't do what I like and that is control who gets them.

Making interaction a requirement would not have affected you at all, you simply could have ignored the requests and played your game but now I can't play mine because the devs took away any choice in the matter. They are purely passive and I hope you enjoy them. Personally I won't be performing anywhere the buffs can be granted unless I can control access to that location because I don't want them taking my services for free. So now I have to change my entire entertaining habits thanks to this.

Thank you so very much.

I have to say that the audience or a random system saying to me 'Do this flourish' in order to buff or whatever is not a system that appeals to me at all. Generally if I am performing a routine then the aesthetic of it is the fun, and I'd like to performthedance and flourishes thatI would like towith no one telling me what to do, tyvm, etc etc

Nor am I, to be honest, that bothered about tips or being paid for a buff, although I can understand why others would like that to be part of an interface. All I would like isa choice as to who I buff at the point whenI am asked.Exactly like a group invite (except without the macroability)- something that says 'This person wants your services. Yes or no?' and Isay yes or no and can carry on with chatting or dancing or whatever. With an optionfor 'automatically decline' that I can turn on if people try and harass me with requests or I don't feel like buffing that day.

Yes, you could do this by having them talk to you, but the majority would probably just stand in the middle of the cantina spamming 'Buff plz!'. I think that the initiation ofa buff should indeed be on the audience side, and shouldn't require any process monitoring from either party, and to be honest I don't even mind if the patron wants to talk to me or not - all I would like is a yes/no check so I can decide who I buff.

Ok, if they said they were going to try to do that system again where the patron asked for a flo and if you did what they said, it gave a bonus... if they said that again, would that satisfy anyone's complaint?

Because, the whole reason they offered that in the past I think was because (a) it's interactive for both the patron and the performer (b) it rewards ATK by giving a better service (c) it's sort of a mini-challenge.

It's not a direct answer to a secured payment plan nor is it truly active, but it goes a lot farther than just the survey bonus pop-ups. Anyway, if they dust that off and offer some version of that again, are people going to be interested this time?

Or is nothing short of either 100% active targeted selection and/or some sort of system payment (mission, NPC, whatever) going to cut it?

The system would have to offer random flos otherwise, say it only offers 3 flos for the partron to pick from, otherwise it would not be so hard for the bot to send a group message telling people to pick flo #1 every time.

Well, I'm not sure about anyone else, but I don't think I'd like to be performing and some Joe-Leet off the street comes in and says "You there - flourish 7" **laughs**For me, I put that right up there with the notion of having my RP immersion being interfered with, as well as my creative integrity (oooh, sorry - sounding rather posh there, but we get what it means). Also, my vision of an entertainer is for an audience to come and appreciate our imagination in the performances we construct, not to be barked at by people who have no clue about the artform. I even had a giggle - but for someone to come up to me and say "Do flourish five" is almost like saying "You, take it off." Not intending to be crass, but I think we are better than that

I think there is merrit in the passivity system - personally, I'm at a stage where I could live with BF remaining passive so that patrons could comeand be healed, and then go again. However, on the issue of buffs, I have a very strongpreference ofsome kind of activation on my part to initiate the buff. There have been several suggestions, from interfaces for the dancer (which I am thoroughly against), radial menus,to pop ups for the patrons accepting or declining the set fees we may set. My preference would be just a simple command like /inspire, that works pretty much the same as /setp command, something I can type quickly when I target my patron. I don't think a command like /inspire would detract too much from either our immersion or showmanship in that regard
