why are people saying its a joke??
it's perfectly plausible that some guy out there doenst read the forums, and doesn't have much friends, thinks he should get 50k! Perfectly plausible due to the state of our profession. There are wacky people out there! And I find this one part of that category.
i didn't think it's a joke at least...
it's like people coming to my tailor shop trying to sell me clothing
different situation, same dumb people.

Too bad you weren't a Combat Medic also so you could ask him to pay you 100K so you wouldn't throw a mind disease at him.....
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... I started at launch as a Dancer and LOVED it. Now I have an alt on that path, just couldn't go more than 6mths without it.
It really doesn't matter if he was joking or not so much. From the original post it seemed that even if it was a joke, it wasn't said with any lol's or j/k's in the text. As such, he was being downright rude by treating the dancer like crap even if he knew there was no way he was going to get 50K out of the deal.
Now, while I agree that holo grinding the dancing profession has caused many problems, such as afk group leaders, not being able to enter the "big group" for an hour because of the waiting list, and all around general sense of annoyance over the fact that people that do not care about dancing are sharing the stage with those of us who genuinely love it, I think there are still opportunities.
For all the annoyances that have come out of this, I have had several positive responses as well. I'm a male dancer who actually cares about and enjoys the profession. We are few and far between, and our uniqueness can often work to our benefit in tips from the women players. Also, there have been countless times where someone would say something to me or look at me or heal my action, and if I give a response, even a one word response, I get tipped. I think there are still a lot of players out there who completely appreciate the dancer or entertainer who is not afk. I think most people can tell I'm not afk because I don't even use macros. I go with my gut, I change dances, I use flourishes and techniques and experiment every night. And, if I find a groove that looks cool, I will do it a few times, and then try something different. I also like to use smoke bomb and change my clothes in the middle of a smoke bomb and people have told me it looks cool. I'll switch from a purple top to a red top to a blue top, etc. I think it's fairly obvious I am never afk on the dance floor, people notice, and they do tip. Granted, I don't make tons of money, that is the plight of the entertainer, but I do well enough.
And, never will I pay someone for experience. Of course, I'm Master now so it doesn't really matter. But, even before, I never dreamed of it. I always laugh at someone if they even mention something like that. I have been buffing a lot, and I don't ask for money upfront. But, if I don't get what I feel I deserve, I don't buff that person again. Some people deserve free buffs, such as the doc who gives me their buffs or the doc who cured my disease the other day. But, generally, I am not rude, but people get one chance. After that, they're off the buff list. I just don't have time for nonsense, you know what I mean? ![]()
I'm a dancer, it's my main livelihood, and I'm proud of it, and no ingrate is going to make me feel like they deserve anything more than my best dancing, certainly not credits. I'm doing them a service, and if they can't deal with it, then they no longer deserve my attention. So, as a couple people above mentioned, there is opportunity out there, even in the packed cantinas, because there are people looking for that one person that is not afk. And that is the person who gets those tips. There are also opportunities in the less populated areas. You can go out and kill some nunas or something and check back in the cantina every 15 minutes or so and if there are people there, simply ask if people need some healing while you're there. People appreciate that and it looks like you're taking time out of your busy life to help them out. At least half the time when I go in there with that approach, I will get tipped, even if its only 100 credits. And, I greatly appreciate those 100 credits. And, even those small amounts will get my full attention, friendliness and offers to help in the future.
Anyway, I've gone on long enough. lol The point I'm trying to make is that yes, the person who demanded the 50K credits is an idiot. But, you can't let people like that bring you down. It's all about the attitude. And, I don't think I'm being pompous about it either. As the old adage goes, you have to EARN respect. I think that's true of both dancers and patrons. Non-tippers will still get my respect. But, people that demand me to dance or expect money from me? Fuggedaboutit. There are other opportunities out there and it is no detriment to my Twi'leks life if I have to cut off a few random freaks.
Well, to all those people asking "Where have all the Masters gone?"
On Lowca, this Master Dancer hangs out at her cantina, Xanadu in Honor's Keep on Corellia. Unfortunately I'm only online between 7:30 and 11:30 pm on weekdays, longer on weeknight, but I'm usually a tell away if you need healing or a buff ![]()
Also, if you're an entertainer that is tired of the Coronet of Theed cantina scene and need a place to perform, Xanadu is open for you ![]()
See you there!
In answer to that question as well, most of the masters no longer hang out in the big Cantinas. And, the reason is because it's not enjoyable to see the tons of afk spam, and have to listen to the big group who is playing three different songs at once.
My beef has never been that people were stealing my business. I know that if I should happen to actually go into one of those big Cantinas, I am bombarded with /tells for buffs. My beef is having to see all the spam and not have a group that is playing one song and one song only so that I can dance without my ears bleeding. I don't care about afk entertaining per se, and if I didn't have to deal with the "heal me" "invite me to a group if I'm not in one" "tips are appreciated" spam that is spewed out every 2 seconds, and I didn't have to deal with three songs playing all at once, I would hang out at the Cantinas more often, even if people were afk.
