HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... I started at launch as a Dancer and LOVED it. Now I have an alt on that path, just couldn't go more than 6mths without it. It is nothing like the old days. I feel so bad for you that love the profession and work so hard. I thought holohores trashed the crafting professions... I've never seen such a sad state as Dancer now. At least you have a crumb of control with the player cantinas.

That was real rude of the guy and I do beleive he was serious not joking.I have another tune becoming a master dancer by choice not holo grinding.I said that one night in the cantina out loud I recd 7500 in tips cause of it in 5 min. Some people respect the profesion I always did and tipped well.I was giving 2-5 k tips for just healing not even buffs. Now I see all of your pains. The ignore list is growing thanks to spam in the cantina. Also cause of oppinions someone didnt like my name and started to bug me about it.I then told them welcome to ignore after saying I thought he was 12 and wasnt it past his bed time.

It really doesn't matter if he was joking or not so much. From the original post it seemed that even if it was a joke, it wasn't said with any lol's or j/k's in the text. As such, he was being downright rude by treating the dancer like crap even if he knew there was no way he was going to get 50K out of the deal.

Now, while I agree that holo grinding the dancing profession has caused many problems, such as afk group leaders, not being able to enter the "big group" for an hour because of the waiting list, and all around general sense of annoyance over the fact that people that do not care about dancing are sharing the stage with those of us who genuinely love it, I think there are still opportunities.

For all the annoyances that have come out of this, I have had several positive responses as well. I'm a male dancer who actually cares about and enjoys the profession. We are few and far between, and our uniqueness can often work to our benefit in tips from the women players. Also, there have been countless times where someone would say something to me or look at me or heal my action, and if I give a response, even a one word response, I get tipped. I think there are still a lot of players out there who completely appreciate the dancer or entertainer who is not afk. I think most people can tell I'm not afk because I don't even use macros. I go with my gut, I change dances, I use flourishes and techniques and experiment every night. And, if I find a groove that looks cool, I will do it a few times, and then try something different. I also like to use smoke bomb and change my clothes in the middle of a smoke bomb and people have told me it looks cool. I'll switch from a purple top to a red top to a blue top, etc. I think it's fairly obvious I am never afk on the dance floor, people notice, and they do tip. Granted, I don't make tons of money, that is the plight of the entertainer, but I do well enough.

And, never will I pay someone for experience. Of course, I'm Master now so it doesn't really matter. But, even before, I never dreamed of it. I always laugh at someone if they even mention something like that. I have been buffing a lot, and I don't ask for money upfront. But, if I don't get what I feel I deserve, I don't buff that person again. Some people deserve free buffs, such as the doc who gives me their buffs or the doc who cured my disease the other day. But, generally, I am not rude, but people get one chance. After that, they're off the buff list. I just don't have time for nonsense, you know what I mean?

I'm a dancer, it's my main livelihood, and I'm proud of it, and no ingrate is going to make me feel like they deserve anything more than my best dancing, certainly not credits. I'm doing them a service, and if they can't deal with it, then they no longer deserve my attention. So, as a couple people above mentioned, there is opportunity out there, even in the packed cantinas, because there are people looking for that one person that is not afk. And that is the person who gets those tips. There are also opportunities in the less populated areas. You can go out and kill some nunas or something and check back in the cantina every 15 minutes or so and if there are people there, simply ask if people need some healing while you're there. People appreciate that and it looks like you're taking time out of your busy life to help them out. At least half the time when I go in there with that approach, I will get tipped, even if its only 100 credits. And, I greatly appreciate those 100 credits. And, even those small amounts will get my full attention, friendliness and offers to help in the future.

Anyway, I've gone on long enough. lol The point I'm trying to make is that yes, the person who demanded the 50K credits is an idiot. But, you can't let people like that bring you down. It's all about the attitude. And, I don't think I'm being pompous about it either. As the old adage goes, you have to EARN respect. I think that's true of both dancers and patrons. Non-tippers will still get my respect. But, people that demand me to dance or expect money from me? Fuggedaboutit. There are other opportunities out there and it is no detriment to my Twi'leks life if I have to cut off a few random freaks.

I now know how it is to be a dancer. I am also a holo grinder but not a terrible one. Even though i may go afk i am still right next to the computer reading a book or just dont want to be annoyed by people who want a mind buff. I do try to talk in the group chat every couple of min's. But just so you know not all hope is lost to the crappy customer. There are those select few who may make being dancer not so bad. Myself included I will always watch the people who make conversation with me when i go into the cantina depending on how much they talk and how nice they are i give nice tips. I give tips about 15k easy when the person is there and is willing to talk even for a little bit. I know that with most of the afk people all hope seems lost for the dancers that dance just for the love of it.

It's very sad, a lot of people look down on holo-grinders as if we're stealing business away. I mastered musicianship and dancer during my grind a while ago, but I never paid anyone massive amounts of money for healing xp. Most holo grinders use their own alternate characters for the experience or their guildmates. And of course, since entertainers are grouped together, we all share the experience. Entertainer grinding is a group effort. I honestly enjoyed entertainer the most out of my professions because of the player/player interaction and the interesting conversations in the group chat.

One thing that true entertainers should remember also is that although coronet cantina is stuffed with holo grinders, NONE of them are masters. In fact, most of them dump master within the very hour that they learned it. 9 out of 10 times i walk into that cantina during a day, I am unable to find any masters to buff me. I would pay 10k for a buff if I could just find it. So the question to you "TRUE" entertainers is...WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU??

I'm sorry to say i know this person was not joking. even when i was 50k healing xp short of master dancer i NEVER pay'd a person to watch me. then again my guild held a "bar brawl" with me dancing on stage and all of them (with a combat medic in the mix) all dueling each other and just generaly having a good time (oh the things you can do to in incaped body). but it was very common for me to see a person come in with a mind disease asking for 2k to watch some one. its rather upseting (even though i dont need the xp any more) to see people who do these even now,but it should not be suprising that people can get away with asking that much when you think about just how much money can be made in other people whoswitch (hologrind)profesions. i did the math up and if i harvest the energy and the raw metals to make a swoop it costs me some where in the ball park of 2.6k then i can turn around and charge 950% (ish) upcharge and people think "WOW, a swoop for only 20k!" or with my main char whos commando/scout i can run missions for 3k each harvesting avain meat, then turn around and sell 10k avain meat at 60cpu and make 600,000 credits... for a days work (did this one just today). its ubsurd that people think they can get away with this... but its even more ubsurd that people are actualy willing to pay it!

and on another note... what cantina are the real dancers/musicans hiding in on Gorath... i miss getting mind buffs.

Well, to all those people asking "Where have all the Masters gone?"

On Lowca, this Master Dancer hangs out at her cantina, Xanadu in Honor's Keep on Corellia. Unfortunately I'm only online between 7:30 and 11:30 pm on weekdays, longer on weeknight, but I'm usually a tell away if you need healing or a buff

Also, if you're an entertainer that is tired of the Coronet of Theed cantina scene and need a place to perform, Xanadu is open for you

See you there!

In answer to that question as well, most of the masters no longer hang out in the big Cantinas. And, the reason is because it's not enjoyable to see the tons of afk spam, and have to listen to the big group who is playing three different songs at once.

My beef has never been that people were stealing my business. I know that if I should happen to actually go into one of those big Cantinas, I am bombarded with /tells for buffs. My beef is having to see all the spam and not have a group that is playing one song and one song only so that I can dance without my ears bleeding. I don't care about afk entertaining per se, and if I didn't have to deal with the "heal me" "invite me to a group if I'm not in one" "tips are appreciated" spam that is spewed out every 2 seconds, and I didn't have to deal with three songs playing all at once, I would hang out at the Cantinas more often, even if people were afk.

I totally agree Drygo.

One other thing I noticed the other day. Sometimes I like to listen to the music that the musicians play in a group. I remember when people used to ask the group to play the lowest song so everyone can play the same one. Now, no one cares! I listened to the band, and they were playing 5 different songs at once!

When I asked what the deal was, why people weren't playing the same song, they replied "Ah shut up prima donna!"
