Thread: How often do you use the 'deny-service'-Command?
"No really, I'm curisoy as to why you come to the dance boards when you've given it up. It just perplexs me, since you no longer have a first hand veiw of life as a dancer. What draws you back here?"
Are you saying that someone who retires from a career shouldno longer have any interest in that career??? If so, I suggest you talk to some retirees and veterans. I think they might set you straight on that.
Anyway, even if I'd never been a dancer, I'd have as much right to air my opinion here as anyone else.
Iwonder ifthe fact that you don't particularlylike what I have to saymotivates your curiosity. No, that couldn't be it - it couldn't be motivated by pure dislike - that would be too base.
Well yes actaully I DO dislike your opipions. And yes I do wish you'd stop telling us time and time again how much you disliked being a dancer. Is that going to stop you? No.
I was TURLY wondering, why. And comparing a game proffesion with real world proffesiions is a bit odd, this is a game.
I can understand if you wanted to see what was going on, or had ideas. But you seem to always have something negative to say. Thats why I was wondering.
If a dancer wants to make money,
just go to an advanced planet, set up a house, charge an admission fee, and dance. If u advertise the house as a dance studio, people who need BF healed will head for you.
I have never used deny service, nor have I ever had a reason to, I am guessing I would not have a problem using it shouldI ever need to. I hope that day never comes. I have had 2 people be rude to me thus far in the game. They were both fellow dancers, how sad is that?
I have made a living on my dancing skill. I feel as if I live well in the game. I must have been lucky with the server i am on. I have to say the people of Bloodfin have been very good to me. /cheers to you Bloodfin. I play this game alot and have to say people here are THE BEST. I love to dance for them and they know it, and they are sure to let me know they are happy with me and my skills.
I think I've used it once or twice to deal with harassment. I'll consider using it for factional purposes, but I haven't yet. I've NEVER used it for tip enforcement and here's why:
I created an alternate entertainer character because I enjoyed Entertaining part-time on my primary character, but my other skills were pushing Entertainer out. I decided to make a "pure" entertainer and see exactly how much I could make on Tips alone, and only clothing to purchase. Admittedly, I spent some time AFK macroing just to grind through certain parts, but I generally made a rule to do that in non-public settings. (My own house, for example). But otherwise, I've enjoyed making more complicated routines, and chatting with my customers, telling jokes, whatever...and I quickly developed a good share of "fans" and I found that the tip money comes in faster than I can spend it! I'm no multi-millionaire like so many powergamers have managed to pull off, but 100k can buy a LOT of clothes! ![]()
Even if I never got another tip, I could still afford to to play a pure entertainer--granted I'd have to sell my house--but I can entertain without it. So if a player doesn't tip me, I don't give it a second thought. If a player won't TALK to me, on the other hand, that is when I cease to have a purpose and move on.
And I've found that the very simple task of TALKING to people is all it takes to ensure that your tips roll in. Don't despair if the money doesn't come pouring in, as long as you're having fun interacting with people, you're a successful entertainer in my book.
If noone is tipping you and noone seems to be engaging you in conversation? Try a different city. Every Galaxy is different so it's difficult to make promises about where is best, but if you have to, don't be afraid to move around until you find a city and clientele that suits you.

So my question to you: How often do you use this command? The Devs gave us a possibility to (kind of) force the audience to tip us so that we can live from the tips.
No, the devs did NOT give us the /deny command so that we could force tips from people. In fact, a very large segment of the entertainer community was against the implementation of the /deny command because we knew that many of our fellows would attempt to use it as a way to extort tips.
The /deny command is intended as a way to deal with harassment. The only other legitimate use for it is roleplay. The only time I've ever used it was when an Imperial came in to shoot the town up and then tried to listen to me play to heal his battle fatigue.
I will never support any movement that involves denying people service in order to force them to pay.
