Well last night I was getting bugged by some idiot asking a/s/l in rl. So I tried one of the methods listed in this post and said RL? . To which I got back Real life, and so I said well this is real life....eventually i did /shrug and they got the point and apologized. So thanks for the trick! Oh and if they get really obnoxious I tell em my hubby owns a flamethrower and he might not like what you are doing. Haha

I'm not sure which part is more amusing: The inherent misogyny of the post or the lack of logic.

So, my character wears modest dresses, doesn't flirt with anyone, and never says, "hun."

So how did I bring this upon myself? Ah, I see how. I chose a female avatar. That's just asking to be groped, kissed, and drooled upon. It's all my fault. Thank you for pointing that out.

And white trash trailer wives are asking to be beaten, too. I feel so enlightened.

As for handling things, I remark that my character is all grimy and dusty from her travels on Tatooine. She's a simple farm girl, after all. Even though I wrinkle my nose in disgust, it doesn't dissuade the losers. The RPers seem to know what I'm doing, so bully for them. I got some good ideas off this thread. The most idiotic suggestion seems to be to wear more clothes. Hmm, who do I know that can craft a tapestry?

Just master Image Design... then make yourself as unattractive as possible and start hitting on THEM... (be sure to mention your 'slack pasty-white skin', etc)

RP-Solution? RP back as long as you are having fun. Get the bouncer, ask a friend to deal with him, out him down verbally, taunt etc. As soon as, even RPing, you start to get bothered, step to non-RP-solution.

Non-RP-solution? /addignore; /denyservice.

• Do you have scales in RL ?


• Do you have fur in RL ?


• Do you have tentakles potruding from your head in RL ?


• Are you a fish in RL ?


• Do you have horns in RL ?


• Are you a cold blooded killer scorching the local wildlife for a living in RL ?

I don't think I can tell the good RPers from the real women. But I'm inoffensive enough to most people that sooner or later we start talking about RL stuff and I find out who's who and they find out who I am. Up to now, all are still talking to me

If you can find another way, DO NOT tell them that you don't give out personal information. You could also wear a sign saying helpless female, please harass. Pretend you don't understand them. Tell them you are a roleplayer and talk in character only. Ignore them if you have to or tell them that your RL should not concern them. But don't use that phrase.

If everything else fails, tell him you are a 70yo gay tibetian monk and you'd love to date him saturday. Works every time.

How do you handle it?

I always reply with "let me ask my mom if I can give it to you. Hold on she's right here".

*paused for 30 seconds*

"IF" they are still there then I say "She is sitting here with me and wants to know why you are asking".

At this point they usually run like mad out of the area from me as fast as their feet can carry them.

Those that stick around get me saying something like I'm an around age 10, but I can't tell you more than that".

They are usually so freaked that I never have to deal with them again. *chuckle*

First of all, don't put up the AFK flag, cause then people make assumptions about you being an AFKer and thats not fun either. (Assuming this is happening while you're dancing.) You deserve to enjoy the game just as much as everyone else, and if someone is making you that uncomfortable then I have a couple of suggestions.

1. Never give any RL information out to these people. Don't even make stuff up, I think it encourages them. Ok, the Bubba thing probably works, but don't just make up stuff that might work and think you're ok because its not really you. That skirts the problem. I think SWG is fairly safe, but just don't give your info away in that setting. No matter how harmless it seems, people take it the wrong way.
   
2. If the person threatens you or is really out of line report them with specifics and ask people in the group to do so too. Thats the only way they'll ever learn I think. Report, then ignore.
   
3. Not all folks need to be reported and sometimes just ignoring them will get the idea across. Any responses should be short and polite, so as to not encourage further conversation though.
   
4. Some folks can just be handled in fun. For instance I get the questions like "How old are you RL, where do you live RL?" etc... and I have tried responding with stuff like "Don't you know you never ask a lady her age?" or something. This not only doesn't offend the customer (leaving a good business relationship) but generally gets the point across to those who aren't total pervs or trying to get married IRL by playing a game.
   
5. Very importantly in all situations, carry yourself as a lady (unless this doesn't fit your RP). Do not overdo the flirting, even if it seems harmless. I think its easy to flirt a lot with no bad intentions, but end up giving the wrong idea without realizing it. Someone always remembers that or notices it. If you meet someone you really like, ask them out and continue the flirting later when you're not at work. Speak your mind in public carefully when you are dancing, as that affects your business. Do not start cursing and slapping and shouting and drawing further attention to yourself as this might encourage the nasty pervs and those who like to grief.

I guess I am lucky that I have not been harrased by anyone in the cantina, except for my rl boyfriend who play on the same server, hihi. Normally it is just sweet talk and light flirting, except for the person my char has fallen in love with, cannot control her feelings, you know .

How I dress in game or real life is my business. Telling me that "Well, maybe you should wear more clothes", says that it is MY fault someone is a jerk, that I am "asking" for it. I dance in the same place most of the time. The people there know me and treat me with respect. The few that have tried to cross the line have all been dealt with by telling them no, and if that isn't enough, ignore works.

Believe it or not the perves always sound funnier when you kill them.

So all you Starsider dancers tired of that garbage, come hang around the Sandstorm cantina (dont know the wp offhand, but Ill mail it to you ingame if you want). As long as Im there no one will bother you, guaranteed. /evilgrin

The Sandstorm cantina is near wayfar, but just as a warning do not AFK dance here, or you will be banned from the building. Also if you dont feel safe running here alone, Id be more then happy to escort you.
