NOT ONE MINUTE SEC. did I AFK...I worked on my master dance title at a time when Holo's and Jedi's did not appear yet. AFK dancers where there but not many. I enjoyed myself because I talked a lot to the guests and after a time I was talking to them on a regular bases with tells while I danced in the cantina, I enjoyed the chating, then when I mastered it I went out to master other things. I'm still a master dancer, never gave up one exp point of it and never will.

I will be honest and say the only times I went AFK while working on dancer were to

1.)use the bathroom

2.) do laundry

3.) cook a quick meal

I would log off if I had to go out.... god honest truth. This was months and months ago, too... before the AFK syndrome was running rampant.

I'm very tired of people sending me tells.. asking the most effective way to grind dancer. I did not grind it. I enjoyed it.

forgot to add that I have always have and continue to perform Live... and I always like to chat with my customers. I use a macro but on while I am at the keyboard, so I can more easily chat.

Amarra was my first character (on Tarquinas server). Started her as a dancer and she still is. Has been for 6+ months or so. I doubt I'll ever give it up. Only time I ever AFK danced with her up to Master was for the 1-2 min breaks for drinks or bio, etc. If I was gonna be gone more than that, I'd tell the group I was going AFK and go sit in the corner till I returned. I did use macros for my flo's and such, but only so I could have my hands free to socialize. I couldn't keep up with the chats and such otherwise. Actually, I never knew how to set up an AFK macro until recently. I made one about a month or 2 ago so that I could AFK in my cantina during prime times for guildies to get heals/buffs, etc.

Now, Amarra leveled when cantinas were THE social place to be, before AFK'rs, holos, and player cities/cantinas. So there was always something going on to chat about or whatever.

But with my new character, Maelyn (Corbantis server), I've noticed it's a LOT different now. You are lucky to find anyone ATK in a cantina anymore. Most the ones there are spamming some kinda annoying verbal macro or begging for heals, etc. And when you ask to join a group, you're lucky if anyone even answers you, much less invites you. Makes it very hard to get XP as fast without a group. I think I might have AFK'd with her slightly more than Amarra (Maelyn is still a bit of a baby tho), but only for like 15 mins to take a shower etc. I do not plan on setting her to go all night or anything while I'm not there or sleeping or whatever. I like being a dancer, or I wouldn't do it. But, I must say, it's VERY tempting to AFK thru Poplock2.

Anyway, that's my 2 credits.

I'm presently doing Dancer for my jedi path as a stab in the dark. I be macro life lovin!! lol muuaahahhahahaaaaa

People need to get over the negativity of macros.
There's no difference between macroers and people at their keyboards these days.

Both players are still dancing and healing people and those who use their dancer without a macro don't even interact with the people coming in and watching them anyways, they just group or guild chat so who cares.

My first time with Lasai? No. this was back in sept-oct though, pre Holo and groups were fun with lots of chat and things to do. The only reason to macro was to chat easier.

Lycantha is leveling up now... and quite frankly there is no incentive NOT to afk dance. Any given group will be a majority of AFK holo grinders who won't talk anyway.

I do try to hide in my house and do it. I still feel I am cheating the game somewhat, but, in a world full of AFK Macro tumbler/healers, looters, combat etc I dont feel as terrible. At least in my home I'm not stealing exp.

And whats the new deal? I watched two chars able to turn all of their bars full black at will... two of them doing this afk while being watched by an afk musician. geez... no incentive at all to do it right when you see people surpass you in the period of one day.

I never went AFK, ever, except when I fell asleep

I saw entertainer as a glorified chat room and only danced when I wanted to chat. When the holocrons came in, I left the cantinas because no one wanted to chat anymore, and I spent time with friends who wanted to chat and get diseased.

Still Master Dancer too, never will let it go.

I also can say i've never danced AFK . And yeah maybe the cantina could get a little boring but then i'd go kill stuff.. and when killing stuff got boring i'd go back to dancing. Wheres the fun in leaving your computer on and the game running.. if you wanna play, the *play* why pay $20 a month to leave your computer on? I didnt master dancer or TK quickly but I enjoyed pretty much all of it.

I also was leveling within the first months of release, so the groups were fun. People were learning and all. There is a difference between just going afk, and afk macroing to level.

Yes, there were times that I was AFK while my character was dancing. For a few minutes for rest room breaks, or to get food form the fridge, change laundry around etc. Maybe the phone rang. But usually they only required a "afk for a moment, phone" or "Brb, getting food"

I didn't see a point in letting the computer macro it for me. I like to do things by my own merit, not find the cheesy way out. Yes, humans are creatures of habit and find the shortest route to anything, but I already am weird and like to take the interesting routes. (Like playing a race in a game that has next to no magical abilities... and making them a mage.... hard work, but worth it in the end)

When I decide to start using cheats or the easy route in a game I've usually beaten it once normally already. I try to not look in strategy guides or walkthroughts either.

I feel more pride in my acomplishment.

Though, there was one time that, while dancing, my character got an AFK tag above her head... so I can not say I totally mastered without EVER going AFK.

I had to talk to a police officer about what I knew about the lady who lived next door. (I had only been living in this house a month or so with the fiance's mother) and apparently, the lady next door had been dead a month, her and her 2 dogs. And no one had known. For a month.

So- that took some time and I can't go "Hold on officer, I'm playing a video game... let me go sign off"

ewwwwww dead for a month? gah. ya know, it does seem that dancing was more fun in the beginning....and by beginning i mean when i started, which was june or july '03. groups and cantinas were so fun! lots of player interaction. today, i went into the cantina in coronet, scylla, and im not kidding, there were at least 10 afk macro entertainers. and no one seemed to care. i say, we take back the cantinas! thats half the reason i hardly dance anymore. so i say...lets go back, lets dance, talk have and good time like we used to! make the players not want to watch a macro bot. /shrug just an idea.

I took about two and a half months to master Dancer. I did it all by hand - I never learned how to write a macro until about a month ago, and I got my master title in September. I did, on occasion, go AFK - to use the bathroom, get a drink, so on and so forth. On rare occasions, I'd go AFK for a smoke.

However, if I did that, I'd either simply sit down, or just leave my char doing the mindless, no-flourish dance. No flourish = no exp. So it didn't really serve me any good by doing that.

When I recently - finally! - got around to mastering entertainer so I could play the mandoviol, I wrote a macro for that. But I was still never AFK. It simply allowed me to carry on my group conversation, four tells, guild chat, chat room, and spatial chats easier. ^_^

I started as a novice entertainer after the disastrous launch day and made Master in about 3 weeks without going afk or macroing. Back then I didn't know what a macro was, and I pushed a button for each flourish I did. I didn't learn to macro until a customer I was buffing told me how in January.

But the game was very different back then than it is now. Everything was new so there was a reason to stay at the keyboard. The cantinas were filled with active players and not afk bots so there was always people to talk to. Roleplaying was encouraged. Friendships were made. People came in and told us what they just saw or what they just killed. If you wanted to know where the nearest armorsmith was, you'd go to the cantina because chances were that a dancer or musician would know where to send you.

Cantinas are now just a place to grind out experience points like the Tusken Fort or Squill Cave. I can hardly blame people truly looking to become entertainers now to afk-macro just to get away from the incessant afk spamming for heals and group invites. Yes, they could go to a seldom used cantinas like in Bela Vistal or Moenia or the majority of player cities, but why should they be banished into isolation? As people have pointed out before, if you want the entertainer healing experience, you need to go to Coronet or Theed [or have very understanding friends that are willing to use an exploit or to sample higher classed radioactives nonstop or get mind diseased]. Conversation is limited to non-stop spamming of "I need a heal now", "I need a group", or "I need a mind buff." Naga, you have my complete sympathy.

Anyway, getting back to the point of the original question: Yes, it is possible to make Master Dancer without ever using AFK-macros. I did it when the game started, and back then I was doing more than flourishing. I was meeting new people and making friends. So it was never boring. Is it possible to that with the current Cantina situation? Probably not.
