The buff timer is most definately not related to the action burned during the buffing. If it were, I would never get 2 hour buffs done in 3 minutes as I have 1100 quickness and burn very little action even with the mad flourishing (5 every 8 seconds). Even with a quickness buff, where I burn no action at all, I can do 3 minute buffs that last 2 hours, so it is very unlikely that the buff gets shortened by the action burned as I dont burn any action and still buff successfully.

There have not been any changes made to the way buffs are given out in the last patch.

as far as i've heard, the buff duration is calculated from action used before quickness is calculated in

Also regarding this macro with /stopdance or /stopmusic in it.. did you consider that stopping your performance results in the listener/watcher to stop listening or watching? If the person doesnt watch or listen, no buff will be given, no matter how much you flourish. A side effect of this macro is also, that you cannot dump it, as it has no pause command in it. If you want to be able to dump it add a pause of 0.25 before you make it call itself again. Otherwise you'd have to relog to make it stop. Yet another side effect is that rapid execution of flourishes results in a significant slowdown of the system/game due to the used processing power. If a macro contains many commands and you execute it repeatedly without pause, you'll clog down your system to an almost halt. To test this, make a macro with 100 flourishes in it and make it repeat itself rapidly by leaving pauses out and having a command to call the macro itself in it. Try doing anyhting with such a macro running and you'll wish you never started it

I just conducted a test with the macro containing /stopmusic and /startmusic virtuoso. During execution of the macro, the listener stopped listening due to the (brief but nevertheless existing) stop in my performance. As in the clapping animation stopped. I did not have time to verify if he really stopped listening entirely or if the animation just stopped as the server was about to go down. If he stops listening during the performance, he wont get a buff. Also of note is that stopping and starting takes some time, so most of the flourishes in that macro are not even executed due to the character not playing music or the server does not recognize the character playing yet. The same would apply for dancing as both actions are similar. So unless I see other test results, using a macro as described at the top of this page, will not work to deliver a super-quick buff.

The player will not stop watching or listening if you stop dancing or playing! They must actually type the commands to stop a\or go out of range in which they will stop watching/listening as well. This is so the dancer/musician can rest, heal etc. if no one else is keeping their action up.

I have also used the /stopdance in a buff macro before and the buffs came out just fine. Sometimes it is necessary to stop, especially for a dancer, when there is no one aroundwho canheal their action. However, I've always let the client know why I am stopping and that they need to keep watching. Perhaps your client saw you stop and just 'assumed' you were finished and typed /stopwatch.

Sorry to bring this back from the depths, but is this considered an exploit? The 30 second buff?

I'm a BH, not an entertainer.

Reason I ask is: I had this done for me in a cantina on dath. I was so excited about it that I came out here got the macro and started showing the master dancers/musicians it so that I could get fast mind buffs.

However, I have heard lately (from someone on a different server than me) that this is a bannable offense and considered an exploit.

Can we get a definitive answer on this? I thought it was a saving method for entertainers to continue to provide mind buffs in the age of double shot brandies coupled with muon.

But I will stop asking for 30 second buffs if this is officially considered an exploit.

Well this is an interesting thread. My second character is going to be a master dancer to go along with my Master doc. I don't understand why it has to take so long to buff the mind personally. 10 minutes or even 5 minutes is too long in my book. Time definatley is the most valuable resource we have...

Also, if I had penny for everyone who cried "gonna get banned", I would be a rich man.
