I would ask that people stop derailing this thread with comments back and forth about playstyle and personality differences. If you have constructive and appropriate numbers and experiences to add to the poll Panthu asked for, fine. Quite frankly, I'm getting rather tired of thecatfights . . . . .

Sorry, kirah_ashlin. It wasn't my intent to have that perpetuate, and I put my final word in. I feel horribly for the direction all of that took, and apologize to everyone in this thread who's posting pertinent information to Panthu's poll. I posted a reponse to her poll - it'ssomewhere amongst all that bickering that wouldn't end.

My apologies to all.

I am directly approached for a buff from a player using the search features perhaps thrice a week. Two to three more notice me in the city/cantina and ask me for a buff upon visual contact. About once a week I will make a point to visit a forward outpost on a secondary world to make my services readilyavailable to the population (and often advertise my Mastery of the profession), buteven there I rarely sell a buff. My services obviously aren't widely needed, as the weak demand illustrates.

Please note that I spend MUCH more time in crowded npc cities than player cities, and still am not approached on a regular basis.

{Edit: Theabove post describes my experience onChilastra. Demand for buffs appears to be much higher on Ahazi, but at one point a buffbot was introduced to my environment after approximately 1 hour of entertaining in the Dantooine Mining Outpost. I made 80-90K in tips in the first hour. In the two hours of direct competition with a Dancer/Musician buffbot, I did not perform a single buff and received only one "pity tip" of 5000 credits.}

Ditto, that's a good point to make and has happened to me quite a few times.

I try to make a point of spending at least some time in public each day that I log on, though some weekdays my work schedule makes it impossible.

Another good point I would add is this: Do people who try to get a buff from me but leave when they find out I'm not a bot count as "customers?" I get quite a few group invites with no communication, and the majority of those people just disband and leave when I ask "Hi, may I help you with something?" The few that don't just flee the horror of a live buffer usually just say "buff" and then disband and leave in 3:30. I have been asked for a setperform once in, say.. about the past 3 months, as the vast majority of people now believe that group buffs are the only way a buff can be applied and I've been called nasty names and told I was wrong and a "cluless f****** noob" when I've tried to politely explain to people that you don't need to be grouped to get a buff.

And yes I still go out there, because we can't get rid of the abusive AFKing without support, and without people to take the place of the bots when they're gone and continue keeping buffs available we'll never get any support. I still hate being treated like an NPC, though.

I am the first to appreciate confrontational conversations, however, our correspondent has asked that this thread be a poll. Please create a new thread for your debate. Thank you.

Not sure my answer is valuable since my regular is on TC and any alts I have on live servers don't have any technique line yet O.o. But, outside of the rare occassion here and there over the course of the last two months, I have hardly buffed anyone at all.

I can say that if I played only on a live server, I would probably only once on a rare occassion buff anyone that I did not know. Mostly because:

A) Its pretty much pointless if there is a buff bot sitting in a public cantina. Anyone who wants buffs is going to use that.

B) I don't want to deal with the possibility that the person will be a jerk and not tip me.

and most importantly of all:

C) Unless I was both a master musician and master dancer, I could not compete with the buff bots or other live entertainer buffers. And, on a live server, because of how little or at least, infrequently we get tipped, I could not afford to make a regular character that I play both a master musician and dancer since I would have no other way to make money in the game to support my horrendous clothing habit <.<

I don't mean to burst your bubble.. While that was an outstandingly creative use for the join command.. Doctors have a /consent command that leaves them free to stay in their original group. No profession would be hurt with the removal of the join command. No profession needs it.

And I don't mean to continue this tired and drawn out subject, but perhaps you missed this paragraph in my post:

Doc /disbands from current group, targets new group leader, runs by them for the invite if necessary, /joins automatically, and can then easily just click onPlayer 1 and rez without waiting for /consent or having to Alt to get the cursor up and click on the join box. Waiting for /consent or occupying mouse time to click a box can stop your player from keeping moving on a battlefield.

For some inexplicable reason, people tend to forget to /consent if the Doc's not in their group, or they seem to take awhile to do so in order to get their rez. This effectively makes the Doc stand around for awhile until they do so. This technique above allows the Doc to keep moving and not stand around in the middle of a battle.Hitting Alt or moving the cursor to left-click on the join box could stop your character from moving, and then you're waiting to get picked off by an alert rifleman. And a dead Doc is not good to those who need one alive.

In addition, it's not my bubble you're bursting. This is just one of the uses of the /join command others have said they use. This is NOT an excuse to not remove the /join command - how many times can I say this - i want the /join command removed, too - okay? I was asked to provide a legitimate use of the /join command outside of buffbots, and did so. As a Master Musician who tries his best to always be at the keyboard, I've asked others how they use the /join command. This was just one use I'd never considered before. In my opinion it's not something that should prevent /join from being removed. But that's my opinion. Now please, let's just drop the subject already.

Okay, since I've been not in game as much lately (sick with a migraine for a whole week, ugh) I was doubting the reliability of my earlier public buffing estimate. so I made the rounds tonight at the two big population centers. what I experienced was what I consider "normal," and I try to do this cycle twice a week so I will put my official estimate for strangers per week at 15, so one hour actually administering buffs for 6 - 7 hours of time invested in attempting to administer buffs.

I make myself obviously ATK and occaionsally advertise my services. At Dant. Mining the bots had a constant stream of customers and at one point had 5 or 6 people waiting to be invited into their group(s) and people screaming and demanding that the group leader give them an invite NOW, despite my statement that there were two of us ATK and currently available to administer buffs. We were ignored.

Location: Dantooine Mining Outpost Cantina
Time Spent: 2.5 hours
Unattended Entertainer Buffers present: 4
Attended Entertainer Buffers present (including me): 2
Mind buffs administered: 4

Location: Coronet Cantina
Time Spent: 1 hour
Unattended Entertainer Buffers present: 1**
Attended Entertainer Buffers present (including me): 2
Mind buffs administered: 3

**It is important to note that on our server the fully "taped" unattended buffer relocated to the coronet theater (I think that's where) so most people don't go to the cantina to search for buffs any more, but just go to the bot's new "home." All the people I buffed except 1 looked new enough to me that they were likely not aware of the bot's location. I noticed perhaps a half dozen more patrons above what I buffed enter the cantina at all.

lol I'm loving the 1-star bandit running rampant on this post.

Just wanted to share a little story about public buffing that happened 2 nights ago. I logged on in my shop on Lok, which is about 4000m from Nym's Starport. About 10 minutes later, someone sent me a /tell and asked for a musician buff, said they found me doing a search when they got off the shuttle at Nym's. I told them I'd meet them at Nym's, and we'd head to the cantina there and get 'em buffed up. WIthin2 to 3minutes time we were in Nym's cantina and I was buffing them (I keep Accaragm handy to buff my action/action secondaries for just such occasions). After 3 minutes they were out the door, buffed up on mind secondaries and battle fatigue free. Now, how is it that finding an entertainer is just oh so difficult and time consuming? It seemed like a pretty quick little exchange to me.

Also, this was the first /tell I'd received from a stranger - asking for a Musician buff -in about 2 1/2 weeks. And I keep my Master Musician tag up 95% of the time, just because I think it looks cool lol. Something has caused the demand for our services to drop quite a bit lately, and I'm sure we all know what it is. The buffing business has been positively stagnant for me.
