Or, maybe they are under the opinion that without AFK entertainers, there aren't enough entertainers to go around?

Or maybe they think there are more AFK players than ATK players, therefore we're actually the vocal minority.

Or maybe they never played a game in their life and can't understand why anyone would want to play a Dancer in the first place.

I seriously doubt it's like some big conspiracy to keep us down.

If it was, they wouldn't have even tried to get rid of AFKers in the first place.

If there is one thing that afking and buffbots have proven, it only takes one entertainer to service countless people. It only takes one.

Actually I proved that on day 5 of SWG, late at night (or very early am, depends on your point of view)at the bestine cantina, before we even knew it was possible to AFK. It was just me and about 60 combatants there, and I was the hero for the night because I was the only entertainer on *strut*

If we were in a hypothetical world where there was no AFK, and there was only one live entertainer on at the moment, that one entertainer could service the base needs that the community has. We're talking about the base needs. Currently, that is BF Healing and Mind Wound healing. Many people argue that Mind Buffs are a base need, but that can be argued both ways, so I'm leaving it out of the equation at the moment.

Well I don't believe mind buffs are nesecary, and personally I blame mind buffs for the AFK phenomenon (buffs and holo grinding). But if you remember (assuming you've been an ent all along), there really were times when there wasn't a single entertainer in the whole galaxy. Now that would prolly not be the case today, but there has been times...

If there was just one Entertainer that could heal people online, that one person could actually service the entire population at that time. If it was just one little Dancer in a cantina, chatting to the idle people in guild chat, he or she could keep the rest of the population going.

If it only takes one to service the entire community, I cannot buy into the idea that their is somehow a shortage of entertainers.

Maybe you're right today. But way back when, it was certainly possible to have a situation where there were no entertainers entertaining.

'course, now we can register with the planetary map, so it would be much easier to find an entertainer than it was back in the early days of SWG.

I've been an Ent since the very first day I logged into the game, which was about a month after launch.

It's kind of hard to say that I've been logged in the game, and there wasn't an entertainer to be found. By the fact that I was online, that would mean that there was an Entertainer on somewhere in the entire galaxy. I have never given up Dancing on my character once. I've changed what I consider supplementary professions, but I have always been a Dancer.

Back before the days of AFK, when I would log on, there was almost always a large group of people already online entertaining. Maybe my server was better than others.

To be fair I play at really late hours. That could very well account for why I have seen it where there were no entertainers around and you haven't

Also, that was a long time ago, the situation could very well be different now. Afterall, the newness of blasting Womprats has worn off, so it's likely that there would be more entertainers ATK at all hours of the night.

If you think about it though (and yes, I posted this in a different thread but it is more on topic here anyway) it's really impossible for there to be an entertainer shortage.

Novice entertainer takes care of all required forms of entertainer mechanics, and is available for 100 credits to every player in the game. The advanced mechanics (i.e. buffs) are a bonus, not a requirement.

Now the real problem is that people don't value novice entertainer as much as, say, novice medic. Do you see people complaining about having to have a medic mule to heal their constitution wounds? No, because 90% of people have novice medic. But the system, through AFKing, allows for them to circumvent this for entertaining.

I will never believe that entertaining is inherently less valuable than any other profession. Entertaining deserves the same consideration as other professions -- either take it up yourself or CHOOSE to be reliant on other players (not NPCs or vacant player avatars) for the mechanics.

No, it's not a conspiracy to "keep us down", but they never did try to get rid of AFK for us (Ents). When the very first Ent Corrs asked for something to be done about AFK performing, they were told that these are "Social" professions and people should be allowed to go to the restroom or answer the door while not being forced to leave.

Please, you have to think of it in terms of a chatroom and not a normal RPG Class/Profession to understand this.

If that's the case, if that's how I'm supposed to think of it, then I might as well hit cancel now. That's not what I want.

Eh, I'm still doing other things, and just waiting and seeing. But, if that's what it turns out to be, then they can shove it.

Stop waiting to see what they do, go ask them if that's the case right now while Blair is collecting this feedback!
