Esharra and La'peta, your concerns are well founded as I see it. While I certainly love the RP interaction possibilities (I'm one of the ones who things entertainers would make great spies) I worry about the reaction from the majority of the other players. Let's face it RPing and socializing in this game is a lost art practiced by few of the combat types. If we don't have fabulous payouts, in either credits or loot, they will flat out laugh at us. If we do have payouts that the "leet" (god I hate that term almost as much as "kewl") players value then we risk becoming little more thanlive mission terminals. Heaven forbid if we actually want to do something else thatcould interfer with their gameplay- you know, like entertain . . .

Don't get me wrong, Fury - I think the concept is a wonderful idea. Its obvious its coming from a player who appreciates the entertainer professions. I just see some potential for problems in it that would have to be solidly worked through before implimenting. Perhaps some of our entertaining programmers here can come offer suggestions.

You kiss Roho with that mouth Kirah?

Anyway the fog is slowly lifting on this thread. (Lei needs another cup of coffee.) It does sound like an incredible amount of coding to do when we can't even get simple things fixed however. Plus I do think the combat profs will just say "yah, yah, just get on with it."

Still it is a most unique idea.

both sides have merit, the side that it could totally destroy the trust placed in entertainers when discussing stuff is worrying.

I mean, when talking to players I got regional data on bases for both sides quite often.. I could easily come up with really cool storylines in which these bases would become the focal point for adventure, but after a while people would figure it out and just hold back all info.. realistical maybe but not as much fun.

On the other hand it would give me a way to strike back at all the Bantha-breaths that have come in, started drooling all over me and started conversation saying 'are you a man?' 'are you married?' 'do you cyber?' or 'marry me, I'll take good care of ya'.. or the ones that take a kick of walking their character 'in' mine or crawling around my feet

Hmm... still not sure what to make of this concept, really. Perhaps it's just too early in the planning phases.

I can see a bit of the vision here though, assuming that my tired brain is interpreting this correctly. And I havequestions/thoughts.

The big question first:

What's in it for the entertainers, who would nowdo the work of developing the content for SWG?

Yes, coming up with all this content is work. I can see the benefits that the ones taking our missions can receive: More interesting gameplay (potentially), higher payouts, loot drops along the way, etc. Are the entertainers (who would now bedoingthe contentworkthat the devs should be doing)left to be the ones begging for tips still? Unable to get the fun items and interesting things in the game, because the only way to get those things is to go out and kill, or to be wealthy enough to buy them from others who go out and do the killing? And how can we really be wealthy enough to do that under the current entertainer revenue system?

Look, they gave us passive(but necessary) healing, buffs, and an AFK macroing system, and we've seen how so many of the combat players come running right on past for their free benefits, and sharing out nothing. Is the reward for doing this work more people coming to us for more game content... so we're rewarded with more work? Or is the idea here that by providing the rest of the community with their content that maybe once they're sitting there getting their missions from us, maybe they'll buy a buff?

If we explain these missions in spatial, will the majority of players have the patience to sit and listen? With all the griping about how even a 3:20 buff takes too long... is a time sink... how come docs buff 6 stats in less time than we buff 1... would our wonderful storytelling, in actualpractice, be responded to with "look, what's the f***in' mission... I wanna get paid!" ?

Some serious thought would have to go into just how we'd be rewarded for developing the game content for SWG before I'd personally be thrilled here. As it sounds right now, and I fully realize that this is in early stages of thought, this idea once again benefits everyone directly but the entertainers. I need to hear more about how this helps us more than how neat it might be for everyone else.

I believe the vision is that by allowing entertainers to create missions, we would be promoting more social play. A commando has to come talk to an actual live entertainer in order to receive their mission, rather than going to a mindless mission terminal.

The benefit for us would be more social play, which is a primary reason for entertainers, and more exposure to the masses on our ability, benefit over AFK bots.

Do I think every combat player out there will jump with joy at the chance to interact with a live person as opposed to a mission terminal? No. But it is another tool that encourages social play - a little creativity in missions can go a long way to creating return customers and establishing a relationship with someone who may otherwise use bots. I believe that is our benefit - now...if we only got a cut of the mission reward. ;-)

I've been thinking some more on this and I have one major concern. If the payouts are equal to or less than current mission terminal missions, very few are going to bother using these. But, if the payout is more or we replace mission terminals, we are going to get endless "Can u make me a mission plz?".

In other words, we will get trapped in the same situation as IDs being the only ones that can do stat migrations. We will get a lot more harassment by the kiddies and end up constantly being tied down with requests to make missions

I sort of like the thinking behind it. As for payout make it easy for the devs and just use the system they already have so the payout would be the same as grabbing a mission off a terminal. I think though that maybe using these types of missions to give out old loot kits(aka new loot kits go to the junk vendors which then removes the loot kits they had on them before putting the old loot kit into que for our missions. That way while it's something WANTED. It's also something that everyone has had a chance to get anyways.) or like I don't know. Needs to be a careful balance of making these useful/fun/something people want to do for a change of pace and making it too useful or wanted to the point where powergamers wanting the newest loot or highest paying missions spam us to death.

It's late and I'm tired so I'm probably missing the whole point, but...

Where are the guidelines to the missions? Will entertainers be able to offer the same missions that are offered from mission terminals but be given the ability to change the stories? ie. "Make a little girl happy" read it once andno one bothers reading it again. It's pretty difficult to believe they will give us the ability to spawn new mobs, buildings, and items to return to NPCs (ex. briefcases, cameras, the usual stuff).

Is this mission giving ability going to be for master entertainers or also forthose of us who only have a couple of trees of entertaining?

Will the entertainer's missions need approval? When I didevents as an EQ guide, we were given very strict guidlines and pre-approvedevents so that it wouldn't interfer with the history or currently running storylines. We could submit events for approval.

Isn't there a risk to allowing entertainers tocreate stories withoutguidelines or approval? Like an entertainer telling someone that if they hunt and kill X then they will be closer to becoming a Jedi. Or something way outside the storyline, "take this toast to so-and-so because he needs to deliverit to Jabba or Jabba will destroyNaboo if he doesn't have toast". And will there be repercussions if someone abuses the ability to create content? Will there be a way to watchdog the stories being created?

Or will we be given thestories to relate to the people interested in coming to us for missions and just be allowed to embellish in an entertaining manner?

If our missions are better than the terminal missions, will we have people yelling at us to "forget the story, just give me a dang mission"?

I think being able to create lorecontent would be great.. I was just wondering about the possibility of somepeople not being responsible when doing so.
