Thread: Concerned with adult situations
Thanks for the input folks. I can see the points on both sides of the issue and its humbling to read all of it. Perhaps I over reacted to the situation, I had only been playing 2 days when my scenerio ocured.
I still dont see why others would want to *roleplay semi erotic situations being through dancing with emotes to the more questionable cybering in a game environment.
I also understand that many many parents that allow children to play online games know absolutely nothing about computers. Many parents are also ignorant to what online gaming entails and the social ramifications that occur.

What the heack is that supposed to mean? I shouldn't have respect for other players because I don't have a child and I can't be respectful unless I go get knocked up and become an unwed mother?

Well said both of you.
I think the point that is being missed here is just what Sinda alluded to. Before anyone "cybers" with anyone else, you get to know the person and build a level of trust between them. TWO CONSENTING ADULTS are the key words I see in numerous posts, and to be two consenting adults, you need to build an even higher level of trust to "cyber" with someone online than you would to have "casual sex" with them in real life. In RL, you get some "age clues" based on looks, lifestyle, etc. In game, you dont have any "age clues" but behavior. But from years of participating and judging others ages, I can tell you that if you are smart and aware, there are hundreds of clues that people give as to how old they really are. Basically it comes down to getting to know the person before you do anything with them.
That having been said, someone who comes up and out right propositions me to having cyber sex gets quickly put on ignore and reported. Why? Has nothing to do with whether or not I approve of cybersex (obviously I do), but that the person obviously doesn't understand what real cybersex is about and doesn't need to be playing SWG. Someone who does that is most likely not old enough to be having cybersex anyway
And they are the sort of person who I'm trying to keep my kids from having to deal with.
Of course, I also don't let my kids participate in PvP, either when they play such online games. As to the comment about letting them go out and shoot countless animals, strip mine, etc.... Well, my kids are smart enough to know the difference between fantasy and reality, for one. They see a hell of a lot more on TV than that, and don't see the consquences of such actions on TV. At least in game when you strip mine out an area, you're SOL for that resource (as you would be in life), so there's consequences.
I don't think anyone here condoned or supports people who go up and proposition right out of no where like happens all too often in such games. However, a lot of people enjoy erotic dancing, and erotic story writing. And you can't tell me for one second that SWG developers don't KNOW that. Take a close look at a chesty female character in just a casual jacket if you don't believe me.
They know exactly the game they are developing when they drew it, and if anyone thinks otherwise, you're kidding yourself.
Everyone has a right to say no, but everyone has a right to say yes too.
Its the people who ask the question without getting to know the one they are asking it of that I have issue with.
EULA...
To have an account the user must be 18+.... Now thats an adult. If children are playing, then that means the parents have just given them access and arent watching their children..... Now who's fault is that?
There are adult situations, but you come into the game knowing that sometimes it happens. I have an entertainer and a tailor and both get naughty comments sometimes. Its just the more... immature online community. If children arent supposed to see it, or if they feel their children wont understand, then maybe, just MAYBE they should check out the EULA and see it was meant for people over 18.
Is anyone else tired of protecting the children? What about those of us who are retired children, aka adults? Don't we get things that are just ours? Do we really have to babyproof the world?
The game is for adults, and children should not ever (in my opinion), under ANY circumstance be playing an MMORPG. That's just asking for trouble.

We have things that are just ours, in the real world. But this is the Internet, and it's impossible to police the Internet. It's faaaaaaaar too easy for anyone to pass themselves off as adults. You don't need a fake I.D. on the net. And it's easy for children to convince there parents to let them use the parents credit card to play a "game". "But mom, it's star wars. With luke and han and chewy. And the little ewoks. I just want to play with the ewoks." He'll get a 'yes'.
So yes, we do have to protect the children and babyproof the world...withing f'n reason. This is an 18+ game, if any children are explosed to inapropriate material then it's the parent's fault for saying "yes" without doing the research as to what this game is.

Sure they should be playing MMORPG's. Final Fantasy Online has 90% children. WoW will have 80% children. Yes, certain game's shouldn't have any at all 'without' adult supervision. If the paren says it's ok and monitors the child, like the lady above does with monitoring chat logs, then it's perfectly ok with me. But if they just hand the child the Credit Card and never look to see what games there paying for, then you get what you deserve.
To Subcriminal.
The command /log works forturning ona chatlog.
