Thread: whats the big freakin deal about AFK's in cantinas?

As far as my career is concerned, joining a guild is about as sure a way as I know to be in the poor house. Please, do tell me how joining a PA will put more tips into my bank account. And to that individual who likes AFK bots, what advice would you give to us entertainers who wish to perform live, but want credits from patrons like yourself?

-------------------

I've actually found the exact opposit. I could leave the guild whenever it pleased me and still retain membership to my city, and my cantina. Most of my guildmates (including the leader) tip me (and tip well) every time they come to me. And I am not required to stay in one place for their convienience. Perhaps it was just me, but I told the leader of the guild that I was not going to be told what to do. The conditions for my joinng were very much in my favor and have stayed there.

I do not think that they are required to tip me, the Tailor provides me with whatever I need. The Architects provided the furnishings for my cantina as did the leader of our militia (which was sorta weird.) They love to fight so when they are on line I have work to do nd buffs to give. For a few days I was really worried about paying maintenance- but the city's mayor does that. (The guild leader, who also tips me.)

I have not had to actually BUY anything in quite a while. However, I do have my favorite tailors that I will go to once in a while. in two days I went from worrying about how I'd pay my cities taxes and needing to go to a starter city to make some money, to not having to worry for the next month.

But I had conditions for joining. I could leave the city when I wanted and I am not required to only serve the guild I am in. If we were in a guild war I might try pretty hard to not help the enemy, but if I miss 'denying' someone- eh. it's no big deal to me. Without the conditionsI set (which I didn't mention all of here) then perhaps the guild idea would have been bad- which is why I avoided it for 5 months.

However, the advice to join a guild was just that. Advice. It has proven a good move on my part. And has allowed me to be free of the NPC cantinas. And it's not like I can't withdraw my membeship if it suits me.

My advice is not particularly 'wrong'. You chose to keep yourself free of a guild's ties, then do so. A dancer can perform in any cantina after all. (At least mine. Guilded with us or not, I welcome all the entertainers, any level. That's your choice. But advice is given based on experience and *in my experience* the guild is a good idea. And as all things are decided based on experience- in your experience it's a bad idea. Which would mean that your advice is to not join one. Fair enough ^-^

NPC cantinas are not the end all be all to 'live performance'. Any performance in a city of people is live! My greatest piece of advice was that if you are tired of suffering the AFK bots- that going to a good player city is the way to go. If you are determined to suffer the bots, then by all means, do so. But the NPC cantina is not the end of the world. You CAN go to a populated city and find a home and friends there. And business. It's not impossible to escape the AFK mire. That's all I was saying. Besides, it's easier to perform with a bunch of live people than a bunch of virtual NPC's.

Join a guild. Don't. Leave the NPC cantina. Don't. I was just offering an idea for an alternative based on my very good experience. I do not miss haing to /addignore every afk spammer I come across. It's a nice feeling.

hi just wanted to throw another long on the fire here.

Im doing the follow the holo blindly routine. If i get FS fine..but mainly cause when i hit master BH i got bored killing ppl. Thought id move on. Did master cm etc..now im dancing...for xp...to get master dancer..to drop and move on...

But i must agree with the REAL ppl in this proffesssion that AFK DANCING ANNOYS the hell out of me. I have been group leader and i tell ppl right up front. if your afk for more than 30min your butt is kicked out to make room for active ppl. This game shouldnt be about blink afk xp grinding. I joined a group on cor and there where some active ppl wanting in and 8 afk dancers in group. I asked the leader if he will make room for active ppl by dropping the AFK ppl.. He said no cause he would be pissed if someone dropped him while AFK and i said well its only fair..and he argued the point with me SO I DONT DANCE IN CORO...

If your going into a proffession even for FS hunt, be polite to the ppl in it for the fun and also enjoy your time there in the proffession i have. Met some great friends there. I really dont understand your rush through proffessions...i mean when you finally hit MASTER GOD CONTROLER OF THE UNIVERSE status..whats next for you? and how many ppl did you step over to get there???

Lets respect everyones proffessions if your "visiting" it.

Ah, you remind us that FS chasers aren't bad.

Actually, one of my characters is "visiting" Image Design right now. Ironically, this is my macho Ranger-type of character and not my Dancer. But I do like your term of "visit." And I plan to make the best of ID while I'm there. I guess that's what the devs were hoping to do with the Holocron system. It was a way to persuade people into trying some different professions and experiment. I think they underestimated the lure of power grinding for some people.

I just wish there was some sort of interview process for prospective FS people. Many of those who mastered the fifth profession (assuming the 4+1 theory is true) would fail those interviews so badly.

*chuckle* Maybe they should have an aptitude test for each profession so that people who actually make the best of their professions would progress into FS. "Okay, now let us see you kick high in the air while orange rings flash above your head. Oh, no, I'm sorry, the correct answer is /startd popular;/flo 1;/dazzle 1. You simply are not Jedi material."

Love Star Wars, but the few role-players I could find on the servers were outnumbered by powergamers who wanted only l337 l00t and mad skillz. I can't justify paying $15 a month to play a game by myself.
Still cares enough to interject an opinion, though.
