If I want the second character, but I do not want to be Jedi, so Ijump through all the hoopsto do the village missions and earn the extreme amount of xp needed and do the trials, then I drop it all, do I still get to keep my second character slot? I need to know for sure before I waste my time on XP, since I will unlock branch 6 this weekend...

You have to reach Padawan before getting the second slot,& once you get Padawan it can't be dropped. Your only choice is to pick a template for your main that does not exceed 226 regular skill points total, because you can never get the other 24 points back that Padawan takes up.

Not so much misled us. More like they changed it. Everything is changing constantly, that's my only hope for my second slot proposal floating in the Core Systems forum.

wee.. not really the answer I had hoped to hear but thanks for letting me know!
I guess they mislead us when they explained it originally...
I am not sure what explanation you are referring to. AFAIK the second character was always intended as a "perk" for Jedi. It was never intended that ordinary characters should get an extra character. The second character is granted for Jedi exactly because there is no way back once you start on the path to Jedi.
I am not saying that there cannot be made valid arguments for giving ordinary characters a second character. I am only saying what I believe was (and still is) the intention with the extra character.

originally they had said you didn't have to be Jedi, but anybody who spent the time to do the quests and the grind could get a second character slot. I had taken that to mean I could get my slot and drop all the FS stuff... My perfect template for my character leaves only 3 skill points, and it's the template I've wanted to play with since I first heard the game was being beta tested... I don't want to waste the name on a character that's not what I want...

I've been looking through faq's lately and seem to be finding conflicting reports. Dose the second slot open after you finish the padawan trials or after you get visited? And dose the second character start out force sensative or if you want your second character to be your jedi do you have to go through all the steps from scratch?

From what i know you get slot # 2 after you become a full jedi (i think that is padawan)
and it is not force sensative you will have to redo it all on the new slot

From what I'VE heard, you unlock the new toon after you complete the Jedi Padawan trials. This new toon you unlock CAN become Jedi as well, you just don't get ANOTHER toon slot. But as I've said, that's just what I've heard.

after you do the trials you get the message saying "you are now a jedi.. blah blah". just log off and create new char. and yes im pretty sure you can make the second toon a jedi but you dont get any more.

After you finish you last trial as an initiate or whatever and become a padawan you can create your character not before
*Side note* you cannot drop padawan at all and keep your second character...at least thats what the CSR said when i asked
