How about disturbing the peace? . . . . spam Spam is not legaly classified as disturbing the peace, especially in a crowded public place where a live band is playing.

If you shouted out anything repeatable at any concert, bar, picnic, public event and caused discomfort to others . . . that's disturbing the peace. In fact your mere presence can constitute disturbing the peace.

How about vagrancy? . . . . begging for credits Vagrancy is homelessness, not begging for money, you are thinking of pandering, which is begging for money with no services offered. AFK entertainers DID provide a service.

true . . . but cleaning someones windshield and then asking for money is still pandering

How about Loitering? . . . . taking up space that a players toon can use. See bigotry. See also NINA, Aparthide, Manifest destiny. See also Native Americans, Ainu, Pygmys, Astecs, Toltecs, Celts, Saxons, African Americans before the civil rights movement.

how can you compare loitering to bigorty? loitering goes for all individuals . . . except an AFK person is unable to move along . . . because they are AFK. I guess because there are no signs that say "no loitering" means that this isn't an excuse though.

How about causeing Lag bt expending bandwidth without the intention of actually playing. If you want to use that you also have to get rid of Jedi, TK artists and Commandos as all their weapons also cause lag with their particle effects.

who said anything about using effects? The mere presense of other toons causes lag.

Would these count as rational reasons? No, for the reasons explained.

If we want to finally have this as a rational discussion, aftewr the fact that's fine. But for the purpose of this debate, a viable reason is one that is

1) Not based on a personal pregudice. IE, because an AFKer stole my tip.

Devs would actually call that griefing . . . AFK person is keeping from attaining content. This is compare to the BH saying that the mayor who city banned them from getting the jedi in the city hall griefed them.

2) Falls within basic human righs as defined by the Constitution of the USA, as SWG is based out of America and the EULA. IE, they are entitled to all rights that everyone else is entitled to

SWG is not a right . . . we do not have the right to play . . we pay for a privilage. And those that get accounts suspended or banned still have their credit cards charged for the payement period regardless of if they were able to log in until we the player decide to stop paying for the privilage.

3) Does not include situations and activities that are performed by other profession. IE, their particle effects are causing lag.

As stated above the fact that my PC has to render their AFK character . . . casues lag regardless of whatever that toon may or may not be doing.

Not to mention who dances without any macros ever?

I dont know anyone that does that even ATK ones.

I don't. The stuff I like to do can't be macroed and still look good. Now this discussion needs to go to the AFK thread. You'll find it in the FAQ sticky.

"Because they spam" How about freedom of speech?

Freedom of speech is irrelevent in the SWG game. You are not bound by constitutional rules here, since the freedom of speech clause of the first amendment applies to the laws Congress makes, not game companies. To quote it, "Congress shall make no law..." prohibiting free speech. It doesn't say "Game companies shall make no rules..." If the Congress said, "You may not spam in the starport on SWG", that would potentially be a violation of the 1st amendment. If SOE says it -- and by the way, they DO say it, in the EULA you agree to respect every time you start the game -- that is their right. It's a private game hosted on private servers that private individuals subscribe to using private funding -- there is no "1st amendment right" to spam in the cantina. Sorry.

The main reason AFKing shouldn't be allowed is none of the things you have posted, though -- including spamming. The MAIN reason AFK levelling should not be allowed in any game is because it disconnects the relationship between effort and reward, which negates the value of the reward. The person who can become a master by having his bot AFK his profession -- whatever the profession might be -- while he is sleeping or at work or school, is able to obtain rewards with no effort (please, don't cite the effort of making the macro -- most people just DL those now from some website that has them). This makes experience points meaningless. I mean after all, if you're going to let people just get whatever skill they want with no effort, why not just give us a permanent respec, that we can do once a day or something, for all the remaining days of the game -- it's effectively the same thing (getting skill boxes without earning them).

Rewards are supposed to be earned. The whole reason they made Jedi such a long painful "grind" is exactly that -- it's the ultimate reward, so to gain it, you have to put forth the ultimate effort. By allowing a disconnect between effort and reward, by allowing AFK, the devs turned the game into something little different from Progress Quest.
