Yeah it would, a chat channel just doesn't work as well as group chat.

We did have a Cantina Raid once - just ask the nice folks of Strongbadia, Naboo who thought it best to city ban a group of about 50 hawtpant clad invaders bent on taking over the cantina . . . . .

They probably were stunned and dizzied by hawtpants, as discussed in Shardour's Hawtpant Poll Thread.

Creating and joining a chat channel is sort of buggy, often people have a lot of trouble joining a channel and they tend to be persistant now, you could quickly end up overwhelmed by the number of chat channels you have and often deleteing thenm doesn't work, you end up rejoined next time you log in.

That is one of my concerns with the 8 member limit. When the Kreetles play at the Roba, Spatial around us is filled with players RPing their parts. But it's hard to speak with a fizz in your mouth so the band falls into the backdrop, adding atmosphere. The group gets into the high numbers we get a minimum of 3 master Dancers and 2 Musicians. Lately, we have been getting almost a full group of Dancers and Musicans 6 to 8 each in a performance. Is the limit is going to hurt that.

We often get a few in the crowd that are working on entertainer so we'll invite them on stage so they can play and get the chance to gain experience with 6 to 8 masters playing/dancing if they are OOC or can't get IC for some reason.

What is going on in group chat is banter, jokes people razzing each other but we are also communicating our performance. Things that are OOC that would destroy the RP atmosphere.

An Example of what is going on would be:

[group chat] Iago: "Changing to a Fast Tempo in 5 in a bit"
[group chat] Ekade: "Poplock2 Girls"

The Dancers would all ( In theory ) get ready with a "/changed" with poplock2 selected and the mouse over the "Okay" button or "/changed poplock2" typed in ready to hit enter.

[group chat] Iago: "5"
[group chat] Iago: "4"
[group chat] Iago: "3"
[group chat] Iago: "2"

The dance changes in time with the music.

OR

[group chat] Iago: "Zyre is going to sing 'Corellia'. Music stoping in 10."
[group chat] Ekade:"After Z takes the front, form a semi-circle behind him. Isleh, Wey, on the ends doing basic2"
[group chat] Ekade:"Everyone else fill the gaps between Isleh, Me and Weyune. 2 on each side.Popular2"

Iago would start a countdown so we all stop at the same time and we are ready for the shuffle.

To be honest, when our game is ON, there is more communication in group about how to direct the performance then all the times I danced near the turret controls defending Mafia's bases when I did PvP. Now... as I understand it, there will be groups of groups right? How easy will it be to communicate between groups out of spaitial?

Well actually if I understand past Dev response on this correctly, this would be very do-able for EH zones such as Cantinas, Theaters, and Camps because the zone is already there.

Basically, you would be joining an area group. So, for Dancers the bandflos would apply to anyone in the zone dancing. This would mean we wouldn't need multiple groups for things like Cantina Crawls.

Everything that we've asked for up until this point (RM to me to Deila) really does lead up to this as the final solution for both group xp and performance reasons. I think we need to clearly ask for this on one of Eshie's next feedback lists.

The cool thing about this for Musicians is, this would be the way to finally ask for ambient music. You would have to either join the "house band" to play or you would have to go do a "solo gig" elsewhere. This would be very good for Musicians and the immersion of the game overall imo.

At first I thought this was a good idea. Then I re-read it. Nope... this is not a good idea.

First of all it gives jerks a grief weapon. They can "block you out" of a cantina if they want, by doing things like playing a song you're not high enough level to play. If a group does it you can /disband and start playing solo in a corner. But as you say... if they do it this way, you'd have to go to a whole other cantina. On my server at least, leaving one of the two attended cantinas (Theed, Coronet) would mean you'd lose all forms of Ent Heal XP. You'd also lose your group XP buff. No, this is too easily used to grief people. I can't get on board for this one.

Yes, it would increase immersion. But the cost is too high. Now if some total JERK that I don't like walks in and starts dancing, I buff his XP whether I like it or not? And there is no way to stop him? Nope, I'm not in favor of that either.

This system would let the AFK buffbots not ONLY be annoying, but now grief us right out of the cantinas by forcing us to effectively "area group" with them. So if someone like me is opposed to AFKing, now I can't even go into the cantina, ignore them, and "compete" with them for business... I have to cooperate with them?

No this is a big giant griefing tool waiting to happen. I can't support this idea.

I'm still wondering what's so difficult about the chat channel system.
