Thread: Crisis of Conscience
Yes it is all about roleplaying! You express some very valid points. Of course you should stear clear of the darkside and come over to the light.

Clearly you're not a roleplayer... or factioned for that matter.
When I'm in-game, yeah, I'm ME. But I'm also Avadiha, the Twi'lek dancer who feels a debt to the Empire for helping her see her worth. Is she going to betray that bond she feels by helping the enemy? Absolutely not. She may have her flaws, but she is loyal above all else, and she feels morally opposed to doing anything which may give the enemy an edge.
As for death penalties... that's not what it's about. At all. PvP isn't about penalties, it's about beating your opponent. My role as an Imperial dancer is to help the Empire put down the Rebellion. I can't do much, but I'll do everything I can.
If I wanted to buff everyone equally, I'd be neutral. But to me, that's no fun. It adds to the roleplaying fun to say "I'm sorry, I don't buff traitors of the Empire." Especially when I tell this to someone who ISN'T a roleplayer and proceeds to barrage me with obscenities, because, ya know, my ignore list just ISN'T long enough.

See, now . . . THIS is the difference between Role Player and Non-role Player.
Think of Role Players as actors - specifically the local amateur theater type. They know that they aren't making money from performing, and rarely get any recognition for all the time and effort they put into it (having a friend in this field, I know something of what I speak) yet they put themselves into the "role" they "play" just as if it were real. That makes it convincing to the audience. Otherwise, it isn't acting.
Now, the problem we RPers have is that some players, whomight never go to see a Broadway play let alone step foot into a local theater, are out of necessity, required to come to us for heals and buffs. They don't like it. They don't want to be drawn into the show. They don't understand why we are up there on stage and why they have to put up with the time it takes for us to finish an "act" of healing or buffing so that they can get on their merry way. They have no appreciation for our efforts - some of them even resent our efforts and would like to do away with not only our profession, but the whole role playing aspect of the game altogether . . .
Should we change our ways to suit them? To a degree, yes. We should be sensitive to our clients' play style as best we can. However, we are humans (on this side of the monitor, anyway) and can't possibly be expected to pick up on each player's mood at any given moment. As well, these playersneed to be sensitive to OUR play style. It is not a one way street. We are not required to bow to their demands. Its our game, too, and if we are going to remain a viable profession, and if our play style is going to garner any respect at all, we need to stand up for our rights as paying players, also. We need to let the devs - and their bosses - know that there is a strong entertainer/role player voice and we want to be heard.

No, no! I'm factioned! I'd probably have been a criminal faction, if they'd ever add it. See, now the roleplaying part I said I understand, it's just the game mechanics side. Personally, my character may have politics, but it all come down to being a professional. In addition, I'm a violemmnt rodian, who sees nothing wrong with my friends and enemies killing each other--I, in fact, relish it! I challenge my loved ones with powerful enemies! I know their blood will spill as well asthe wookiees!

I'm a rebel, and when I'm in a RP mode, I won't perform for overt Imperials. OTOH, I've had to make compromises because my player city is neutral, and our cantina-meister (a Dancer) is Imperial. OK, so for her, I make an exception.
Yay for NewJedi making the Ent rounds! /cheer
