Thread: Need some help with ideas here please. :)
I actually think that going AFK renders a mission incomplete is the easiest solution.
p.s. If you are looking at missions, I would like to be able to complete a mission using something other then Formal. I never seem to be able to complete with a higher level dance.

I'll make a note of that, thanks.
/tip Sinda 1; /tip Sinda 1; /tip Sinda 1; /tip Sinda 1; etc. And then poor Sinda has to click Yes or No on all of the boxes. If Sinda can /addignore Jerk and prevent that, I'd consider it a useful function.
Eek! Thank you, Kuildeous, for saving me from that horrid fate!
He's right, and I know a couple of players who would do just this very thing.
You're worried about an AFKer finishing a mission worth 150 credits?
C'mon, we have much bigger issues than this. If someone takes adance mission and AFK dances their way through it, so what? It's a 15 minute mission worth maybe 200 credits.
I'm more concerned with making our profession cost effective (in terms of benefits versus point cost). I feel that we should limit the AFK effectiveness, certainly, by making it dancerbenefits require an active (non-AFK) player, but dance missions aren't evenreally a benefit.
Oh, and if you want to make dance missions useful...then offer different missions based on the dance type. You click on an entertainment terminal, and the list of missions come up...telling you what kind of dance you'll need to do to complete that mission. Oh look...the basic dance mission pays only 100 credits...but this exotic 2 mission pays 1000! Yay!
Did you even bother to read my post about the change in Mission payout? And yes we have bigger issues then this in my oppinion as well (although many consider this their top priority) and I'm working on those as also. Not sure what makes people think someone can't work on more then one thing at a time.

No, I didn't bother to read your post about the change in Mission payouts, probably because I don't see any post on the front page saying "Changes in Mission Payouts" or "Upcoming Fix for Dancers" or anything that would lead me to believe something like that would have been posted. So if you could direct me to that thread, I'd appreciate it, thanks.
Ravenmist: "I don't think some of you see the big picture here. What if finding this answer would mean turning those 170 credit missions into 2000-5000 credit missions? Are you seeing where I'm going with this?"
I think that was the first mention I read about the possibility of mission payouts being increased. That was earlier on this thread. Hope that helps.
Rebeeka wrote:what if dancer missions were more like "dance-offs". The mission target does a dance flourish and then you would have to do the same dance flourish. Complexity, speed, and number of flourishes would increase until you failed to match your opponent. Mission payment would be based on how long you last, with a set amount (basically what they pay now) for those who are really really bad at these. The first few dances would have to be pretty easy though so that you could at least have a chance for a decent payout and to help those of us that are really bad at these "simon says" type games. In any case, no way you could AFK macro that since you would actually have to sit and watch what your opponent was doing (and of course it would be random and based on your level)...
OK... This... idea... ROCKS..
What a great idea. I love it.

I failed to consider the "ugly" flourishes. Let's hope that someday soon we will have eight (or more) good and unique flourishes for each dance.
I would think the dance type would have to remain the same for the entire mission. It would be too much to have to watch the flourishes and figure out which dance it came from, especially now since there are many repeated flourishes throughout the dances. Option 1: it would tell you specifically which dance to perform (Basic, Poplock2, Exotic4, etc.) when you take the mission and this would not change for the duration of the mission (I'm undecided if dance level should effect mission payout - I'd leave that for the powers-that-be to decide
). Option 2: (and probably easier to implement) it automatically just picks your highest level dance.
Honestly, I have no idea how they would implement a "dance-off" mission. Might be a bit too involved for any time soon.
When someone is AFK for a defined period of time they lose link, or get disconnected. Since there is an option to set auto-AFK, the code clearly knows how to determine AFK-ness based on some set of rules. Presumably, AFK-ness is based on keyboard/mouse interaction or some kind of physical action driven callback. That would mean that even if someone has a sweet /ui macro looping, if they aren't typing or mousing, they aren't playing after some set of time. (Of course, someone will find a work-around for this too, eventually, but it'll weed out a lot of AFK-ers I think)
So solve a whole bunch of problems at once, and don't allow AFK-ness for unreasonable amounts of time. I don't see how this would hurt the Dancer profession (or any professions that I've tried) or affect gameplay besides pissing off those folks who are bots or macros.
Honestly, if you have to be afk to answer the phone or let the dog out or run to grab some soda, you can generally be back in 10-15 minutes. If you aren't, why not just disconnect (which I assume stops xp gain and mission completion) until you are back at the keyboard and active? Isn't that only polite too? Why let some macro use up bandwidth of someone who's really playing the game?? I guess as an old-school player of MUDDs, I don't understand why SWG allows long periods of inactivity at the keyboard/mouse...that is just an invitation for bots and macros or getting yourself PKed.
If non-AFK players want to macro for longer periods of time than the AFK limit, then its no problem because they are active at the keyboard in some capacity...even if they are RPing hours of silence, they can do something on the HUD that doesn't spoil the RP but stops the AFK disconnect.
Even if I'm the only other PC on the planet of Endor and I have tons of BF and mind wounds that I need healed, I'd rather tough it out and either heal myself or wait for someone to show up than to patronize an AFK dancer. Perhaps grinders don't feel the same, and they might suffer from this kind of situation.
This is mostly on topic, cause its a possible solution to the AFK mission problem...
Well, I Just Started an entertainer and it's fun in Corella on Ahlza that place is always live and faction isn't an issue, something very comforting for different factions =)
Anyhoo I do have a beef.
Last night I was Dancing my 1st day! and I went up in 2 lvls with total attention from docs and the amount of customers was so cool everyone in one place to entertain-train!, heal, dance or even get all up on's!
Well we had a customer =) at the beginning a very happy one, i'd say about 15 members in the group and a few kind hellos to a certain wookie customer I will leave nameless ( A very very generous one at that ) He was so happy with the services he received while healing that he Called out for the group leader and " Tipped the group 3k credits " WHOA nice tip =)
Our leader was afk, oh about 20mins if not longer our customer left and stated that if hes going to tip he'd atleast appreciate a thank you. Now I tried to apologize but I'm sure it didn't fix his bad taste in his mouth from that experience.
I understand that at times we go afk for one thing or another, say a load of laundry, load the dishwasher, pick nose... but It would be nice to perhaps put the AFK flag in a different color/ As well as in the groupname list. especially if a keyboard stroke is undetected after a min or so it would help those around and in group identify who is in the group and who is afk so that no one mistakingly thinks another is there. OOooOooOoH a timer in the group window for afk time would be cool to or even above the name =)
I went afk to take a shower for work and play a little while I got ready for work... yeah I know afk people suck but I had the intention of comeing back asap quick shower! and Im sure those in the group who as soon as Banana says " AFK " thought ug not another one! but hek would you honestly rather afk for a few or camp and reload the game for half of the time you wher afk? not me I hate the soe loading screen and not having the ability to esc out of it!
Anyways my two cents:
Cheer them up =)
Do Crazy wicked Moves!
