Thread: Dancers will probably not like me but I still feel it is dignified...
This "pecking order" that is present in professions is pathetic in my opinion, where the people who socialize are deemed higher beings when it comes to entertainer professions is ridiculous. Play it how you want to play it and that goes for every profession whether your in it for mastery or just dabbling.
If your good at what you do, people will watch you..chatty or not.
AFK Dancers (can be applied to all entertainers):
The good things
===============
We can start with the good. When AFK entertaining it helps the other players find a healer for their BF. It makes the cantina seem more full.
The Bad Things
==============
They give the entertainer profession a bad name. They cause lag. They take away from the money making ability of entertainers that are not there. They don't really look good dancing. They tend to spam you all the time.
The Macro Buffer (24/7)
=======================
This is a blatant exploit and severely adds to the bad things listed above. Let's face it. Some people will walk into a place and use the AFK guy to avoid feeling he needs to tip.
The ATK Dancer
==============
Those that are at the keyboard are able to react to their environment. Take special interest in people. Change their dance style to fit music changes. All in all, they can entertain better.
30 Second Buff
==============
Let's face it, the people doing the 30 second buff tend to be subpar dancers. They tend to be macroed to Master and only have it to provide the buff. Sure some will like it, but I have yet to have someone complain about the extra 3 1/2 mins it takes me to buff when I am actually ENTERTAINING at the same time and didn't hit them with my spam asking to group me, heal me, or tip me.
Macro Dances
============
Sure they might be fun to mess with, but bottom line is they are NEVER as good as a well practiced dancer that knows their timing and dances on the fly. I will dance head to head against ANY macroed dancer or dance. I feel I would win a heck a lot more then I would loose.
Conclusions
===========
Play it how you like. But remember this, when it comes right down to it, the best entertainers (and the ones that are remembered) are the ones that try to actually entertain you. Sure, I like to catch the eye of that person that just walked into the Cantina, but the bread and butter is from the repeat customers. Power Gamer types will love the AFK Buffer. Roleplayers and players just out to have good time in the Star Wars universe are ALWAYS going to prefer the entertainer that tries.
Different strokes fro different folks. It just bothers me (and most real dancers) that the AFK macroers give us a bad name. Sure, it might be true to tell one of them they didn't work for their title. But when someone says that to me because their experiences with the macroers, it just irks me. I take my dancing seriously and I think it shows in my presentation. I can ALSO buff ya in 30 seconds, but thus far no one has ever wanted me to. They ENJOY the extra 3 1/2 minutes of personal dancing attention.

Look Auto,I don't know where you get this view from, but for the ammount of skill points and time we invest in our characters, we are the lowest paid and least respected of all the classes. There are people in this game who vehemently hate us and wish we just ceaced to exist. As far as socializing or however you put it is concerned, allow me to let you in on a little secret of our profession: Master A and Master B can do nothing in terms of the game mechanics differently. So what seperates the two? The effort to make these things enjoyable to the patrons. The fact that this usually boils down to the ability to chat is that it is simply the best tool that is available to us to make our "product" better than the girl next to us. Frankly, its the ONLY thing we live players have to compete with the bots, so don't you start making fun of us for simply trying to find a place in the economy.
Beacuse Auto, another thing that you have to understand is that sooner or later somebody who has been at this gig for awhile will be at the cantina you are at. And they will be working the crowd as they always do. And they won't need to be inthe group because they will have mastered the profession. And people will be looking at them instead of somebody who doesn't do anything but set a macro, taking away all the experiencethe macrobotsneed to level, as well as all the tips. And if the tips are good enough, they will be back. Maybe not at 4AM like an AFKer, but when all the customers are on, the same customersmacroers need or want. And ifentertainers don't givethe patronssomething more than BF healing, mind wound healing, or buffs, they'll never be able to compete with them. THAT is why we chat and do the things we do. Not because we somehow feel superior, but that its our only means to make it as an entertainer over somebody else with greater or equal skill levels.
So don't knock us. We are simply giving Morath the tools he needs to survive. Because he can be the greatest guy in the world, but nobody will know or care unless he gives the audience some indication. Otherwise, he'll just add to the clutter that is already there. It doesn't take much, but it takes more than a macro. Otherwise, what is Morath going to do when there is a macroer macroing right next to him? The audience can be quite forgiving if one tries, butONE HASTO TRY. You can get better at it, but you never will unless you spend some time doing it.

This age old debate has been going on for some time, mostly due to no real answers. For those that say they just want to feel helpful with their afk bot..great if you plant them somewhere like Lok, Endor, or Yavin where entertainers seldom are. Unfortunately that is not the case.
As a crafter I am forced to go to coronet at times for bazaar items I purchase. Occasionally I forget to turn off Master dancer title. I get a tell from a person requesting a mind buff. I don't like turning anyone down in need but coronet lags my tail badddd. I go to cantina to help person out (same scenerio too many times to count)..there are master dancers/master musicians/master entertainers in the entranceways all the way to steps entering cantina..the actual entertainer area is almost empty. What is up with that? I now know to enter using back door rather than lag through the dead sardines. Why would masters afk at coronet or theed and in the doorways to boot ? I can only think of one reason and too much of a lady to type it.
I started dancing only per request or when I wanted to long ago. You can try to actually entertain but its difficult to talk over the constant spam of the afk bots. As for the group leaders who don't boot afkers..shame on you. The excuse of higher exp pts doesn't fly..just an excuse.
Have seen too many people on here, musician forums, and entertainer forums who blast afkers yet have seen the same people in a group filled up with afkers ingame. We can make a difference in a small way that can lead to bigger way later..if you wait for the developers then you will lose heart and change professions. So don't be afraid to refuse to join a group with afkers or boot ppl afk (not talking bout someone afk for 15min either) long as you do it nicely. I have many times and did not receive any flack about it..atleast not to my face anyway hehe.
These professions were meant to be the fun part of swg by all. Devs (correct me if wrong) have already said they will do nothing about afkers..not surprising as they still havent fixed dancers falling even at master.
