Thanks for the clarification Raven, I would concur with what you said there on every point. I also think that, if you play mostly on the test server, you're probably exposed to a bit more of a mature and supportive audience than those of us on the live servers, and that may play a role. As you said, situation is part of it.

I've been very hard pressed to find a decent place to dance in on Bria. Coronet is the lair of the Holotainer and most of the player cities that have cantinas seem to want the ladies. So I'm definitely in a poor position currently, which is why I'm so darn jealous of Tiaga and others on this forum that have found an excellent player-run place to perform.

Most of the female dancers are very supportive and make it fun. Some are not, and some even give negative comments. Most of the time, that exposes the sex of the player right there.

I don't mean to put a negative spin on things. Dancing can be very fun and rewarding for either sex, and I enjoy it a lot. Just don't expect it to be all roses.

It is not an easy road for males, but not really for females either. To be a good, at-keyboard, friendly, socializing, professional-quality (within the game environment) dancer takes WORK, regardless of the size, shape, color, or gender of your toon... Although it is fun work, it is not easy.

But then, who the heck wants easy? The fun of a game like this is the challenge of it. :-)

LoL, very true Chessack.. I certaintly wasn't trying to imply that women have it easy either.. just easier, hehe. Its a tough profession for anyone that actually cares about it.

I had mixed feelings starting this profession to continue my jedi quest. I'm an active player that doesn't like to sit in the same spot for any length of time and hanging out in the cantina didn't seem that appealing to me at first. To be honest I have nothing but respect for the loyal dancers that continue to rp no matter what kind of emote or saying the children are throwing at them. I've actually had a blast talking to group members and all the people that stop in.

One thing though that I found interesting (though in retrospect shouldn't have really surprised me) was the lack of female combat players. Once in a blue moon I'd see one and have a great time talking with them. So more in line with this post I'd have to say as a male dancer it's much harder to rp to the audience that we would like to see. But all in all it's been a great experience and I hope SOE gives the profession some new toys to keep those determined roleplaying dancers in the game. You bring us a break from all the combat gripes and frustrations and remind us that we are here to have fun. But...maybe thats just me.

I have a novice male human character on Chilastra that I decided to follow the path of TKA/Dancer. I am not very far in either path, but when I first started dancing I got lucky and had a couple generous people tip me extremely generously. It has helped give me a head start on the lack of funding. Thank you again. I'm at work and can't check my list at home to thank you by name.

Regarding the shirt/no shirt thing...
I hear some people think it's nice, and others are offended. I compromised by taking my shirt off in the middle of one particular florish combo I use and then put it back on again. Kind of a tease for those that enjoy it, and not too much for those that don't.

After I started, I thought my combo would be nice as an entertainer/bouncer for a cantina. If people get out of hand, flash the TK name, step off the stage and ask them to leave. Hard to get some people to role-play that, since the only way to throw them out "drunk in public" would be to get them to accept a duel, but I still like the idea. Also, a bouncer is more likely to be an unarmed brawler type than some guy whipping out an LLC in a cantina. (depending on the cantina, of course )

Anyway, I just felt the need to ramble.

I play a male master dancer (have since early on in game)... but my character is a bit more comidic.

He's short, fat, bald and wears long white coat, no shirt, bikini leggings and sandles.

Towards the first of the game he tended to illicit extream reactions... people either loved him or hated him.

Some of his haters were almost to the point of harassment (never understood why people are offended by ugly people).

For me, the way to make the real money is to sing (I don't do it in crowded areas... it's just too spammy).Sometimes when i sing (i have about 15 songs) i can get tips up to 20k. Adding comic flavor to entertaining usually works well if you stay way from bing crude or corny.

I love having my Swanky Cantina out in the boonies on Dantooine... there i get people who want to see me and never get those rude 12 year olds

Ok, I'm curious. Has anyone with a male dancer avatar ever replied to 'u gay?' with 'No, I'm a woman'?

I love male dancers. I'm a female master dancer on Wanderhome. I not only wish there were more male dancers, but I wish more of them would wear hotpants or bikini leggings while they dance. I know a lot of people think that male dancers should cover up, but I disagree. I think male twi'leks look gorgeous wearing bikini leggings while doing exotic 1-4.

More male master dancers would be awesome.

I enjoy dancing the same dance with other masters and bandflourishes anyway, but a male master included... very cool!

I'm a female Twi'lek on Ahazi, and seeing a male doing exotic sorta creeped me out at first, but by all means, go for it!

However, most male players will assume you are gay and insult you and all that..... bash their heads in. I mean .... yeah. Apparantly the atheticism of dance is lost on cretins like that. (be nice Tekoa) But still, Go for it. I know very few dancers wou would not welcome a male dancer into the group.

I usually answer: "No, I'm strait. If i were gay i would make a pretty boy toon like yourself."

I'm boggled why people would be concerned about the sexually of anyone (unless they planned on hitting on them).
