My tips are typically my heals. Whenever I'm in the Cantina with nothing to do [or heaven forbid, I have to get healed *gasp*], I get an invite to the entertainer group [usually w/o asking... something about "Master Doctor" just screams "invite me to the entertainer group" and people know me around Coronet] and I will keep the entire group healed up. Considering my Stim Cs go for 1000 a pop on the Bazaar, and I typically use up 3 or 4 of them, the dancers are pretty happy with that. Hell, I've gotten tips from the dancers for keeping them healed...
For someone that isn't a healer, I think that a good tip is something that you can afford. Don't go hitting "/tip [name] 10000 bank" unless you know you can afford it. But then if you are doing 1000+ cred missions and don't hit the Cantina often, don't go in and tip a dancer 50 credits for taking away all that fatigue that hurts you otherwise.
I guess I'm kinda biased on tips though being a Doctor, I know that the people with some of the wounds I see can easily afford to tip, but often I get none.
Another nice thing is asking if a particular dancer might like some resources for an alternate profession [such as medic or tailor].
Ya, long story short:
Tip what you can afford, don't cheat the dancers but don't cheat yourself either.

1. Tip generously - perhaps as much as you made on a mission?
2. Tip only the "live" entertainers - not the droids
3. Divide your tip among the entertainers who were most entertaining
4. If you park your behind at my feet so you can look at my legs for 15 minutes, tip me!!! Even if you don't have any wounds. It took me a long time to dance this well, and I am spending time talking with and entertaining you, sometimes to the exclusion of other potential customers.
I absolutely understand what it is like not to have a lot of credits. Even a little tip means a lot, and is far better than no tip at all.
Make it worthwhile for Master Dancers to stay in the dancing profession!
