Thread: How much should I tip?
Need an Edit button!
Anyway, to be more specific:
1. Within your first hour of play, you should have the best tier 1 cert weaponavailableat the Bazaaron your starting planet (paid for with delivery missions)... spend the next hour killing 45+45 of the weakest mobs that spawn just outside the city walls on Explorer/Hunting missions (and harvesting their corpses with the Scout skill that you picked up... even if you have no intention of remaining a scout... why let good hides go to waste?).
2. Do this right, and you should be pulling in over 5K per hour... maybe as much as 10K. Stopping once per hour to hit the med center and cantina, and you'll end up tipping themno more than 1000credits at 1c per BF/Wound. (And if it's that high, you're still doing something wrong).
3. Also, with that Scout skill you picked up, why not train Novice Entertainer and Novice Medic, too? It only costs 200 credits, if you didn't start with them... build a camp out of bone and hide that you harvested... sit down... hit /tendwound self a few times (it works on all 6 of the Health/Action stats). Sure, that causes Mind Wounds and Battle Fatigue, but guess what? Dance around and/or play a horn in camp, and the Mind wounds go away! With Scout, Medic, and Entertainer skills (which you can relenquish later if you need the Skill Points), you should only end up back in town with Battle Fatigue!). Note... for later in your character development, it's better to let the professionals do this for you.. your time and skill points will best be spent in other pursuits.
You'll earn money from the hunting missions, which get REALLY easy by the time you've reached your tier 3 weapon skill. The misions that require 45 of one kind of beastie pay the best on a per-kill basis, but you can do 30 kill or 15 kill missions, too, if you won't be playing very long. And they don't take you 1000m+ from the city, like the destroy missions do. Just roam around the city in a big circle only killing the two kinds of beasties you chose for your missions. (and do choose two kinds... not the same kind for both missions: example, minor worrts and lesser desert womp rats on Tatooine).
Yes, this sounds like powerleveling.. but at the start, we all want to get settled into our character, right? Have enough money to buy some clothing that fits our style, and get the necessary equipment, right? After you've reached tier 3 in your primary weapon, you can slow things down a bit and relax... you should have earned about 50-60K in credits by then, which is plenty for decent armor, weapons, and clothes to relax in.
Hmmmm... I think I'll repost this on the Game Guides board.

Flawed is right, of course.
I need to re-iterate thatI use a personal guideline of 1c per wound and BF when I play a combat character...
...and recommendthis guidelineto others when asked.
However, I never ask for tips from people...
...and I never complain about a tip being "too small"...
...or one not coming at all from someone who walked in with no mind left and 1000 points of battle fatigue.
There are 3 kinds of customers...
- The kind that never tip, regardless.
- The kind that always tip, regardless.
- The kind that might tip.
The first kind aren't worth getting worked up about.
The second kind... they're just angels. Love you!
The third kind... whether they tip or not is MOSTLY up to me. How much they tip depends on how much they have, and how well I treat them.

In my opinion, 20 credits or less is an insult. I'd rather you walk away without tipping me at all. 20 to 50 is 'okay', but you're not exactly making my day by any stretch of the imagination. 50 and above is good, but not great - it tells me I've done an adequate job. 100 or more tells me I'm doing a good job. 500 or more tells me I've saved your life, or made your game experience better.
If I receive especially helpful service (like being given training that saves me hundreds of credits), I tip 10% of my total money (unless it falls into the 'insult' or 'okay'categories above). For any kind of woundheal - something that won't get better on its own - I reckon a good tip for the service is 100 credits. No one can complain about a hundred tip.
"I do not think that a 20 cred tip is insulting."
I didn't say that it was insulting in general. I said it was insulting to me. Opinion is not objective fact. The original post asked for our opinions. I gave mine.

I consider a tip insulting if I suspect that it was delivered with an attempt to insult.
I don't really know if that 20-credit tip is from a newbie or a veteran. If I know the veteran personally and know he is swimming in credits, I'll consider the 20-credit tip an insult.
Now a 1-credit tip is always an insult (or a joke if it's between friends). I consider it worse than no tip. At least with no tip, the worst you can think about the person is that he's being inconsiderate (or is a newbie at the game). But a 1-credit tip means that this person went out of his way to rub it in your face. He is expressing his loathing for entertainers.
I've seen this twice.
First time, this guy comes in. I suspect he was sick of the dancer beggars, because the first thing he said to me when he entered was, "You want a tip? Here's the only tip you'll get." He gave me one credit. I took it in stride and replied with, "Oh, well, if you on such hard times, I would hate to take your last credit. Here, take it back and save up for something big." And I tipped him back. He seemed to enjoy my conversation. In the end, he still didn't tip. Ah well, anyone who starts off with that attitude is guaranteed not to tip.
The second time, I had a much sweeter revenge. He tipped me one credit. I was busy with other conversations, so I didn't feel like belittling him in public. Later, I took a trip to Yavin for some hunting. Who did I happen to see recovering from being killed by a crystal snake? There's the guy. He recognized me. He told me to dance. That's right; he wasn't even asking nicely. I told him no and went about my business. He was quite unhappy with that.
I won't verbally berate someone for giving me a 1-credit tip. However, I will publicly humiliate you. Aw, did the big, bad guys kill you and take all your money? Yes, it's not an issue what with auto-insure and such, but I'll still pretend that the guy wearing composite armor and wielding a flamethrower is suffering from a bad week and is all around pathetic. Dwarf nuna got you down?
20 credits? Maybe a newbie.
1 credit? Definite insult.
"if they never intended it to be an insult then I'm not a person to take it as an insult."
I think there's a slightmiscommunication here. Perhaps 'insulting' was a poor choice of words. I guess I'm not really saying that I'm personally'insulted' by a 20 credit tip. What I'm reallysaying is that as a general rule, I reckon it's no use to give a 20 credit tip. The point is, 20 credits doesn't really help anyone out of any situation, and tips are so infrequent, and range so much in amount, that 20 credits here and there may as well be nothing.
I think there is a catch-22 situation for dancers: tips are so infrequent that if you leave the cantina for 5 minutes to get a couple of dance gigs, you might miss a big tipper. In a situation where dancersarereticentto go out and get a couple of200 credit dancing gigs to split among up to 20 entertainers (in the group - i.e. 20 credits each), a tip of 20 credits is just as useless - it's basically not worth the effort.Typing a'thank you' messagefor such a small tip takes your concentration away from what's happening in the cantina. With tips being so infrequent, a momentarylapse could cause you tomiss a customer entering the cantina, or it could cause you to miss a message from a potentially high-tippingcustomer. Thiscould mean the loss of a lot of money. I'm not saying that this is 'likely' to happen all the time, but the potential is certainly there, and I think in the current situation where money is tight in the entertainment industry, entertainers are well aware of it. Thus there are situations where tipping under a certain amountmay bemore harmful to the recipientthan the apparent monetary gain that suchsmall tips convey.
the best advise is to tip 5%-10% of the amount of credits you made incurring your wounds.
if you didnt make any credits change professions ![]()
Aye.... Any tip of 100 credits or less, and I'd just as soon prefer a "thank you" instead.
I tip whatever I feel like. If I am happy and had a good hunt, you get about 500 cred. If I am depressed because an at-st killed me you get about 100 cred. And if i am really pissed, and no one talks to me you get no tip. I tip based on emotions. Sometimes i feel generous and other times i just feel like killing every single person i see.
Everyone tips differently so tip what you feel is right, based on quality of service.
one time a guy tipped me 1 credit and i thanked him and he said " ok you passed the test here you go" and then tipped me 10k so i thank for even one credit. cuz a credit earned is a credits saved
