I don't see the need for it myself.

It seems to me that most hecklers and jerks are not harassing dancers, musicians, and entertainers when they need healing. They do it when they are bored to get attention.

The best way to deal with this is to ignore them, which usually makes them lose interest if everyone does it, or /report them.

I've seen two abusive customers get booted for behavior that was unacceptable after being reported by several players. Encourage your band mates and customers to report the abusive player.

How about this:

/bounce: automatically forces the target to accept /duels

From what i've seen, any cantina is full of orneryPvPers who would love to try out their new lasers on a heckler harassing their dancers.

I feel your pain about jerks, but I have this big problem with 'deny services'...
Explain to me how you stand in a crowded bar making people forget their mental anguish by either dancing for them or playing music, but you can selectively mete out that healing to 95% of the patrons?
If I sneak into a movie without paying and don't get caught, I still know how the movie ends, even if I'm a jerk.
I think if you just ignore them, and stop entertaining, that if there's anyone else there that night the idiot will have to answer to the respectable patrons, who will likely be spamming him with duel requests. If you're all alone and he is your only customer, then /stop-ing your dance will hurt only him.
And if he/she crosses the line badly enough, /report them. I think your tools are in place already.

the problem here is ,the dancers and musicians are not paid by the cantina's owner.

They are paid directly by the person needing healed.so you end up with everyone sneaking in and getting healed for free.

player run cantina's have the problem of being far from the starter cities and not very profitable due to lack of customers.

a medic/doctor can chose who to heal, entertainers should be given the same option.

Dustdoc, creating a /bounce command that forces the target to accept all duels is a hilariously devious idea Of course it's also an exploit waiting to happen so we can't hold our breath.

I expect this isn't a popular opinion, but if someone is making lewd suggestions or cantina griefing, we don't need /denyservices, we need to be /reporting them. Denying services is too easy to abuse as a solution to minor problems or to coerce tips - and there is nothing to keep the offender from doing it again and again. But if someone's behavior is serious enough that it's offensive to the person it's aimed at or disrupting the performance or disrupting other players trying to get healed, then we should just /report the jerks.

I've had mixed feelings about the idea, myself. I've posted in favor of it in the past and I've also had second thoughts. As ClearAqua notes, /refuse isn't really going to solve the problem. It's more of a retaliation measure against a selected player. If that player is vulgar and abusive enough to deserve a refusal of service, he really should be /reported (which sends your chat log to SOE), followed up by a CSR ticket (From your Holocron, "Customer Service") elaborating on the problem. Doing this MIGHT mean he isn't going to be a problem for your fellow entertainers anymore, whereas a /refuse option wouldn't stop him from doing it again. And again. And again.

From a Dev point of view (I'm guessing since I'm not a dev), those problems which have alternative solutions already in the game are not going to get much, if any, priority. And in this case there are three solutions already available to us: (1) /report, (2) /ignore, (3) The rise of player-run cantinas. In a private cantina, service is not only /refused, the player is bounced to the front steps and can't get back in. How ideal is that?

I've been predicting the decline of the public cantina for a long time - they're sprouting up everywhere right now but so far, players haven't found them easily. Word needs to spread, work needs to be done, and reputations established before private cantinas can succeed like the public ones do. The single advantage of location is not a permanent one for public spots - cantinas near popular hunting grounds are potential gold mines.

But I think the number of threads and opinions on appropriate behavior in cantinas reveals a dilemna for this game. They've created a game where sex sells, and now we have to figure out how to navigate it within the "community standards" we all agree to abide by. I'm not entirely pleased with what I've seen of how that's going so far, but I suppose I'm just an old prude ...

No, you're not an old prude at all. But you did hit this particular nail on the head. Dancers are in a moral quandry of sorts - our profession works best presented as an alluring, seductive image but that very image invites inappropriate behavior from less-mature players. I like the attitude of solving it ourselves, and I think boards like this are a good start to communicating among our profession.

I would love to see demographics on the age groups of (a) Those dancers who engage in public lewdness and (b) Those patrons who engage in verbal humiliation with strangers they don't know. It's easy for us to pass both of them off as the signs of very young players but I'd wager we'd be surprised at the number of alleged 'adults' who are doing it simply because they're anonymous.

Finally, I think we tend to dismiss the power of peer pressure. I can remember exactly three players in my career who were problems (Ironically, two of them were dancers). I made the mistake of trying to handle the situations alone, confronting the abuser, and it did nothing. But once an entire cantina full of 6 or 10 entertainers started saying the same thing, /kicking the twit dancer from our group and applying peer pressure, the behaviors either moved to other cities or stopped altogether.

Very opposed to this since it would be abused in order to force tips you just have to read the entertainer boards to see that.

I support this totally..

We had a guy in Mos Eisley today totally harassing all of the entertainers. All of us stopped dancing and he still would not stop. He eventually left and he still needed healing too... We all reported him but the fact is that /report does not do it's job fast enough. If I am getting harassed right then I would like something done. With this /refuseservice command, I could refuse him and ignore him and continue on dancing.

I'm a Master Dancer and I keep on dancing from time to time.. but people like this turn me off of dancing all together which shouldn't be the case.

I would love this idea. It sucks that people can be rude and call you names and you cant stop them from looking at you and getting healed!
