Thread: So much hatred for AFKers.

As a customer: AFKs should be replaced by a "novice dancer" NPC wich would heal like a normal novice dancer. This would end the need of AFKs. Either way, I LIKE talking with the ents at times.

As an (ex)dancer: I got novice dancer in a few days (2 3 hour sessions and a night). ITS NOT THAT HARD IF YOU TRY! I understand that sometimes people have to go afk for mabye 10 minutes but..well...heres a true story:

Master_Dancer gives you lead of the group

me: *kicks out all the AFKS*

a few minutes go by...

AFK_Dancer: can i get an invite

30 seconds go by...

AFK_Dancer: /afk

*kicks out AFK_Dancer*

AFK_Dancer: why was I booted

Hot_Dancer: afk tag

AFK_Dancer : **edit** some people have lives unlike u we have work and school and stuff

*kicks AFK_Dancer out becuase of ranting*

AFK_Dancer: LOL get a life. /SHOUT STARTING NEW GROUP FOR AFKS! WHO WANTS TO JOIN

20 minutes go buy...no one joins his group. We gain 3 people

Now, this is AFK_Dancers rutine:

login, invite, afk for about....10 hours...then i get on. He gets back to the keyboard for the one 10 minute session he actually plays. Flames me...goes afk until servers go down

Now...AFK_Dancer was later banned due to his "attitude" towards people who work hard, and /ignored by many others

mabye now you understand our dislike, their are many others like him sadly

"Maybe you enjoy paying money to have the same monotonous experience everytime you play for four months to Master Dancer. I certainly don't."

You're missing the point.... the whole point of entertaining, as I see it, is interacting with other players and ENTERTAININg them in the process (yes, through socilization, too).Hmmm...where did I get that?

I personally had a blast grinding all my dancing and music xp although it took me 4 months to master both. I enjoyed the time spent with my fellow entertainers and the audience (met my in game husband, too) and that to me, is worth the 14.99 a month. Like I have said before, if alll I wanted to do was master professions I would be playing a roleplaying game that wasn't so um... online. lol

The myth of the deathworld AFK is just that....myth. If AFKers were these virtuoussorts that go AFK in the labor outpost on Yavin IV, then I can see why people may find reason to love them. However, you and I both know that AFKers are not on Rori, Talus, Yavin, Dathomir, or any of these abandoned places. They are in Coronet, Theed, Bestine, Anchorhead, and all the places that DON'T need them. Why? Only three reasons dancers go AFK:

1) XP while you sleep (which means you go where the people are, hence no lone AFKer).

2) Its an alt account that serves as a prime's buff bot (wherever the prime goes, the buff bot is sure to follow).

3) Hologrinding (so you camp where thereare the most dancers dancing, hence, go to the big three cantinas).

I mean, get real. Why would anyone go AFK at the places where AFKs are needed? No XP there. Instead, they go into Coronet, play music that is so discordant with different songs that I get a headache, have two or three groups of twenty going, and crashes my 1 gig of SD RAM. So come on, seriously. Do you think that AFKers serve deathworlds at three AM? Not on my server they don't.

Now, just to be fair it must be noted that while many entertainers may want their AFK brethren banned, the rest of the professionsLOVE the AFK entertainers. Why? well that is the case NOW at one time this wasn't a problem but most have left the biz

I had a lot of fun playing with the AFK's in the Espa cantina today! I wouldn't group with them #1 (I'm not working to help your xp, and I don't need anymore....) When people came into the cantina I just made sure to talk with them right away so that they knew I wasn't AFK. I had several people tell me that it was refreshing to see and AT THE KEYS dancer, and I made great tips just hanging out and having fun! It was a great day!!!! I think that I may LOVE the AFK's, they seem to be upping the credit anty for those of us who like our jobs.

I dance a lot and often in the AH cantina on Ahazi. Often I end up with being the leader because I am one of the few that are actually there. We often have a mixed group of AFK'ers and Live entertainers, and I usually do not just boot AFK'ers for being AFK. I will however drop an AFK'er for a live entertainer. I do like the person behind the AFK, just not the tag. Its a zombie guild.

I don't like to see many AFK'ers. Today, or this morning for me, I was unable to join a group because everyone was AFK. That's kind of disappointing, but not as much as when I needed the xp myself. So I just dance and interact with people, but I do miss having contact then with my fellow entertainers. I for one, love to dance exotics with a fellow entertainer. Its not for everyone, I realize that, but it is somethng for me, something I very much enjoy - for me its fun putting on a show with someone else, entertain, do some sync dance, outfits etc. On top of that I feel more comfortable flirting with my fellow entertainers then with the patrons of the cantina. That only works if they are there.

I mean, I still meet master dancers that never have done sync dancing. When I introduce them to it they love it and start to realize what they have been missing spending their time among those zombies. Nothing is shared, no experience, no knowledge, just annoying repeated messages begging for tips, heals and attention.

I don't oppose to all forms of macro's or absence, as long as it is kept in moderation. Too much has never been a wise thing.

I don't actually "hate" afk entertainers, but I don't find them much fun. I mastered dance the fun way. I'm not sure I understand why you'd like to be a performer if you don't like to perform. It's no less fun performing as a novice dancer/musician than it is at master. I didn't considering my time going from novice to master as a grind. I had a lot of fun in the process.

There was a regular group of us who used to dance/play at the cantina in Mos Espa (Wanderhome)... we'd chat, dance, engage customers all night long. It was a lot of fun. It doesn't have to be boring. It's only boring if you decide not to "perform"... IE- greeting customers, talking with folks, pal'ing around with the band. In fact, there was quite a bit of drama going on behind the scenes ... all ingame of course, but this band member likes this other band member, and now she's dumping him for this one customer, and blah blah blah. Totally fun and hilarious.

Be zany! You don't have to be just "welcome to the cantina" status quo... we used to act like we were putting on a dance school show. "Okay guys! This next move is real basic... step back, kick that leg up high, and now shake yer shimmy!!" /bandflourish

We'd even have special guests (IE... my dancing pet cat)

Lots of fun.. you should try it.

Tiaga said:

But yes, any repeat offenders will get banned from my cantina. (And any repeat offenders before the next publish will also be warned and attacked.)

It's not really the people I hate.

Wow that is just so sad, you'll have your goon squad attack a non-combat profession player. Gosh I bet you get some jollies from that. And yet its not really the people you hate.

I have to agree there.. as much as I find the AFK dancers a boring and unimaginative lot... you would really go as far as attacking them? I think a banning from the establishment would suffice

Hey Dius, mind explaining why Tiaga doesn't have the right to ban whomever he wants *FROM THE BUILDING HE OWNS*?

Hey Velvet Dancer, how about getting the point. It wasnt the banning, its the attacking derrr. IMO its pathetic. Especially if you are going to say that you dont hate them. Of course banning is within your perogative, IMO its an an unneccessary thing to attack also, that just proves an underlying maliciousness.

How does having a bunch of afkers affect the roleplaying population? How does it affect the virtual chatroom?

If you like to RP and socialize, and there are other people around who like to RP and socialize, tell me again why it hurts you that there are other people around who go afk and dance?

The only point I will agree upon is the rude afkers. The ones with macros spamming "tip me heal me tip me tip me plz plz thx" yea that can get annoying and can kill immersion a little. I understand people disliking those people, but most afkers are simply afk flourishing nice and quiet. If they respect the people around them they will dance off to the side a little especially if in a large group since they will get the same xp anyway.

So if you hate the inconsiderate players, I agree with you, and yes a lot of afkers are inconsiderate but you know what? If they had to spend more time actually AT the keyboard they would be even MORE inconsiderate. Let them get their xp overnight when you are not online, and then they can move on away from the profession. AFK helps, not hurts.

AFKers cannot buff. Buffing kind of helps, well, a lot. You don't see people solo withou Doc buffs on Dath or Dantooine right? A lot of people do not understand the benefits of musician/dancer buffs. Sure it takes a few minutes unlike the quick doc buffs, but it is WELL worth it. I myself did not understand musician buffs until this past weekend and I have been playing since launch. Man I wish I knew about it and had some those days on Dantooine as a swordsman I actually could have killed stuff even faster than I did! I would gladly pay 5k for a master musician buff in the 10 minutes of downtime I have anyway healing wounds and BF every couple hours so that I can be more efficient when I am back in the field, and if I am sitting there for 10 minutes I will probably strike up conversation instead of staring at my watch praying for 10 minutes to end. So you get 5k, you get some interaction, I get my buff, we are all happy.

Dius if you had actually made a point in your post, I'd have gotten it. One thing I learned while writing all those papers in grad school was that it's the job of the *writer* to make sure the point gets across.

Personally, I don't think there's any hostility on Tiaga's part. His cantina has a couple of signs stating up front not to AFK. If someone ends up banned because of repeatedly violating the rules of the house (IIRC he doesn't ban out of hand, you get at least one time to mess it up first!), they can go elsewhere. That's what all the entertainers that don't wish to dance in the sea of AFK zombies get told, "If you don't like it, go somewhere else". If it's fair to tell the people who are actually at the keyboard to go somewhere else to play the game, it's fair for someone who owns a building to tell the AFK people to go somewhere else. Banning someone also removes them from the building so they won't clutter the stage up with their "the lights are on but no one's home" avatar.

You are more than welcome to your opinion, but in general, let's try keep the double standards to a minimum. If you feel it's okay for players to be told to play elsewhere because there are already a bunch of AFK people in the area, it's also okay for a player to tell the AFK people to play elsewhere because he wishes to set the rules for his own structure. Do you also think there's an underlying hostility on the part of a merchant who bans people who come into his shop and start a macro spamming the location of their own shop and that the prices are cheaper?
