Thread: ATTENTION Anti-AFKers...

I was more talking about the fact that, while dancers have a lot of issues and things they'd like to see (the AFK issue is just one of those), the devs are doing a fantastic job of ignoring this profession completely. Our top 5 issues have no response, our correspondent is all but throwing up his hands in frustration, a dev has not posted on this forum since right after the game shipped, and all indicators seem to point to the fact that we and the other entertainer professions are near or at the bottom of a very long priority list and not moving up anytime soon. In the history of the game, unless I'm mistaken, we've gotten two fixes (mind buffs got fixed and our action bar use got fixed) and a few really poorly done flourishes.

The few things they talk about adding are apparently being pushed off to the space expansion, and no-one knows when that will ship.

It does not make for a very positive atmosphere.

So it's OK when you go AFK, but not when they do?

That's really what you are saying here, after all.. "I go AFK 6 hours at a time but when I am at keyboard I get annoyed that everyone else is AFK."

If you can do it so can they. And since AFKing occurs for more person-hours than at-keyboard possibly can, the end result of "I like to AFK for 6 hours at a time" is, 3/4 of the people in any given cantina are AFK.

If you don't like to sit at the computer and watch yourself dance, why are you a dancer? Being a dancer when you hate it makes no more sense than saying, "I am a crafter because I hate the crafting UI."

I admit, I AFK macro my new entertainer. Currently I am at work but I am also in game from home. I am snuggled away in the Mos Espa Cantina where I have yet to find another single AFK macroer or even a live person. I am not a hologrinder at all. I just want master as soon as possible and then work through master Chef as soon as possible to start a cantina up with a friend of mine. My character is not on the main dance floor, nor part of a group, nor will she ever say anything to anyone and cause problems or spam.

No third party tools are used in the creation of my afk macro, and no increased load-balance issues are created by me being online outside of normal load usage for me being logged in and at keyboard. In fact outside of the longer usage of me dancing when I would normally be at work, if I was at keyboard I would be using more bandwidth because I would be conversing with others and probably crafting and other things while I macroed my dancing.

I find it rather humorous that so many say such things as, "What if someone macroed combat classes" "There would be a huge fit". Hate to tell you, there are many combat macros out there that you can easily afk with and work quite well. I know of several macroed classes such as Bounty Hunter, Commando, and Pikesman(Sure can't blame these guys

My main goal is to master as soon as possible and get out of the cantina where all these so-called "social-zers" can't spam me to death with their conversations about anything and everything outside of the game itself with the exception of the wonderful, "Will train you in [insert mass spam message here] " and other such nonsense. Some of the non-afk people are worse than the afkers, but you have to have something to complain about. Enjoy your day and I will go grab the marshmellows to roast on your flames.

Ewok, you started off really really weak there. You even sounded somewhat sympathetic and willing to abide by the wishes of the evil anti-AFKers.

Thankfully, you salvaged your flame a bit at the end by inserting some good digs at the ATK people.

Overall, though, this almost doesn't qualify as a flame. We need to feel your angst, we need to feel the heat wafting off our monitor when we read the words.

I implore you to try again, for this attempt only rates a 3 or 4 on the flame-o-meter.

#1) I agree completely with Wrayth, the original poster.

#2) Sultrina, you said "but at least there would less of you low class trash entertainers ", and then sarcastically told Wrayth "classy response. Grow up." Funny. You're the low class trash.

Wrayth,

You can't reason with them. I don't understand the hate, but it's there, and it's as real and inescapable as gravity. Sultrina's post about sums it up. Her language isn't as highly filtered as some others who will post here against you, but the spirit of her reply will be the dominant force. This is a battle you cannot win; I would pursue it no further. All it will accomplish is the lowering of your average star rating. Sultrina complains about the low class ofAFKers, but her reply is no less low class, and that sort of hypocracy runs rampant here. It's an elitistcult which currently isn't getting it's way, and that's a combination sure to produce whining, moaning, complaing, etc.

I'm with you: I love the amazing things they've done with the graphics and the animations and the game balance as it pertains to Entertaining. I may not always agree with corporate SOE decisions, but I've never failed to be impressed by or in agreement with the Devs. But then I understand the Devs' plight more than the average consumer, so my opinion there is baised and doesn't really count. Either you are a developer yourself Wrayth, or you see this with a clarity that the whiners here cannot, or by choice do not.

I appluad your attempt, but I encourage you to abandon this effort, and just play the game. I know this through personal experience. I started a 6 or 7 pager about a month ago that accomplished nothing. My arguements were sound and logical, theirs were emotional and irrational. By definition, we cannot reason with the irrational. So lets just leave them be. You'll be happier, and so will they.

Greatsails,

That's a solid effort in my book. Some really good slams in there ("My arguements were sound and logical, theirs were emotional and irrational."), the anger comes through fairly clearly. It lacks colorful phrases (though 'elitistcult' was pretty good), but has an overriding ego trip ("But then I understand the Devs' plight more than the average consumer") that is simply wonderful.

Where it fails is in the target and the message. Directing empathy at a kindred spirit is far less powerful than all out blasting your competition. The message (don't bother trying to fight), can be considered hypocritical by some considering the nature of your post and, worse yet, defeatest by many, but I believe it just may be a clever smoke screen behind which you lash out in a safer fashion, setting up any reprisals with a self-righteous blast of full heated flame. One can only hope that we'll see such a display, which would then raise the score of this effort through the roof when you consider what a one-two knockout that would be.

I give this a solid 6.5 out of ten, pending that second lashing, which would likely raise it further.

I personally, do not have a problem with AFK macroing. I do it myself and yes, it's my holo profession. I just want to get this done and out of your way asap. What I do have a problem with is making inconsiderate macros. What I mean by this is all the /say's people put in them. Every 10 seconds most people have a "heal me please" or a "I'm on auto-join please invite me"... I think we've got the message!!

There is absolutely no need for a /say in an entertainmentmacro. Please take them out. There are plenty of other entertainers about who want the grouping XP and will be inviting anyone they can. I have just got up from being afk while I slept... without a single say macro, I woke up to find myself grouped. All you need is the silent /join command. As for healing... go grab yourself Nov Medic, go to the bazarre and pick up some Stim B's and macro some heal-self's into your entertaining. It's not hard. Here, I'll even help you:

Macro 1: Flourish

/fourish 1;

/pause 8;

/flourish 2;

/pause 8;

etc...

/fourish 8;

/pause 8;

/macro Flourish;

Macro 2: HealSelf

/healdamage self;

/pause 10;

/healdamage self;

/pause 10;

/healdamage self;

/pause 8;

/join;

/startdance [dance name];

/macro HealSelf;

Simple.

I must admit I've taken this one stage further - I actually don't have a Entertainer

She's not a Novice Entertainer now, but I hope to make it to not being a Master soon, by not afk-macroing

I'm able to not have her on the same server as my main toon (a poke in the eye for the one character per server limit)

I feel there are several advantages to this approach - I am very comfortable about the EULA, I have received no complaints from any other players about my activities and perhaps best of all I can not be a Master without having to hawk for Apprentice Points

My not being tipped rate I am quite sure surpasses the being tipped rate of any other Entertainer on this board

So for those of you who enjoy afk-ing, just take it a step further!

i have become an entertainer as of late and i used to have a problem with folks being afk. But dang it takes a lot of time to go from novice entertainer to master music or dance. It can be really slow and boring at times. If folks don't understand they have never had to sit endlessly and dance or play an instrument.
