I am dead-set against this idea.

Entertainers are the most hated profession in the Galaxy...

Tell me about it! I've been doing the entertainer quest with each of my Dancers/Musicians and the other day as I was working on my 30 people promotion at the Coronet starport on Eclipse, a Doctor there who was doing buffs, started complaining about my being there. Saying things like I should stay in the cantina and if I wanted money, I should get a real profession etc. This Doctor was so anti-Entertainer, that some of the other people present were offended. Funny, Doctors get Droids tat let them work outside of med centers, why don't the entertainer droids allow us to work outside of cantinas?

I survived the CU

On the other side of the coin, while I was doing my 30 person promotion playing music at the Coronet starport, I met a doctor who asked if I wouldn't mind coming and playing music right there with him while he buffs. He gets bored sitting and buffing, and likes to have the music to listen to. He also thinks it's nice to have someentertainment there for people in the buff line, should they care to listen.

This doc now contacts me semi-regularly to come play while he buffs, and when I can make it, he encourages his customers to tip me for coming out to play while they wait. He'll additionally tip me well for playing, saying he doesn't mind at all sharing out some of his profits for having me there to break up the monotony of sitting around buffing.

I just wanted to share the other side of the story, as it were. There are players who appreciate and enjoy entertainers for what we are... combattants, crafters, docs... they're out there in all professions and playstyles. Interestingly enough, the more I get out of the cantinas and dance or play music for the entertainment value of it rather than the game mechanics, the more of these players I stumble across.

It has occured to me that maybe the reason these players are appreciative is that in a setting not infested with the typical cantinaspatial spam, and once they're not so focused on our healing or buffing game mechanics, they're finally able to see how much fun a real entertainer can add to their gameplay experience.

I think that we have to look at it like this... you can't please all of the people all of the time. Entertainers in SWG just aren't going to appeal to some players - it's just not their thing. But, we can please some of the players all of the time - there are people out there who appreciate entertainers for our entertainment, and they are our real audience.

Now that I'm an accessory to thread derailment, I'll return you to your previously scheduled thread to discuss the possible introduction of looted components that would allow for the creation ofmind wound packs.

But, Deila, you are a DPT - isn't thread derailment part of the job description?

Hmm... let me check the lists in the DPT job description...

(snipped from soooper-secret DPT job description documents... )

  • Avoids direct responses to issues

  • Answers questions with questions

  • Responds to a question with the answer to a completely different question

  • Shifts direction of serious issues towards harmless and inconsequential discussion

  • Invents new game systems and content that are ludicrous and/or silly, without the consent or approval of rest of Development staff, in order to placate the community, as required

Oh, yes... there it is. I'm covered.

Edit: Lithium decided on a blank post. I thought otherwise.

But theres been a way to heal mind wounds since the beginning tka meditate. yet even with mind wound packs, theres still the matter of BF. In a way i can see it as a good thing re pvp as mind fire is a killer there.

Albeit ive retired from pvp as on chimera the fun has gone out of it. Thus i stopped.

I love the dancer proff, thats why i created a 2nd account as master dancer. Also made her a crafter to explore all aspects more in depth.

I dance with my alt for me, not to make money, but to have fun. And thats what games are for IMO.

Here is what the designer had to say on that document:

"Basically that document just contains examples of ideas of the kinds of things we could do. Not things that we’re going to do. There are no plans to actually make a stimpack that heals mind wounds per say or for that matter even mind damage. It was just an example. That doc was initially written for other people to look at and go "This idea is good, this idea is bad" etc."

So what he is saying is that it would be a bad idea to put an item like that in the game.

I just got approved to post this.
