Thread: Can we clean up the Hen house?

Did you read what I wrote or did you just jump to conclusions based on the title of the thread? Please read what I wrote, and then decide if I am being "shrill".

Besides... Someone else did agree with me. The thread has moved to a less trafficed area. Although I don't feel it is proper material for an FAQ... It certain is the most frequently argued topic.

My thread title was not meant as a direct insult on any individual but on the state of this forum and the general attitude of this community. It certainly does not accurately reflect the atmosphere of the dancer community in the game.

I'm sorry Else..but I read what you wrote..every post..several times. And I have to say, if you weren't intending to be shrill, your words didn't reflect your intentions.

Besides... Someone else did agree with me. The thread has moved to a less trafficed area. Although I don't feel it is proper material for an FAQ... It certain is the most frequently argued topic.

Moving that thread to a less obvious location is something that I know has been under consideration for a few weeks now and for a variety of reasons.

My thread title was not meant as a direct insult on any individual but on the state of this forum and the general attitude of this community. It certainly does not accurately reflect the atmosphere of the dancer community in the game.

I think that your choice to incorporate inyour thread's titlea colloquialism usually used for a gathering of women and carrying negative connotations was in poor taste.

I have to disagree with your assessmentthat the postersdon'trepresent a cross-section of the playerbase. The opinions of some, even many, might differ here from your friends on your server. But on the servers I play on regularly, the posters here seem to show an across the board representation of opinion. I'm not looking to argue with you..really..just providing a little feedback. Usually I'm more than happy to debate things but I have avoidedmuch participation in this thread because Idon't think your posts hereindicate that you are open to debate.

I would have to agree.

I've been a dancer since day 1 (well ok, day 2 - my computer didn't like SWG on day one) on Kauri server and if you search you'll maybe find that about a dozen or 2 of my 600+ posts are on this forum. I love dancer. My original toon will remain a dancer until they shut the lights out for good on SWG. But I hate hearing all the grumpiness here, it depresses me more than the actual game ever could. A couple months ago a "dancers forum" of sorts was held on Kauri and I got the pleasure of meeting our forums current mod, and when asked why i'm not on the forum much I was honest with her. I had hoped the attitudes here would improve. Until then you'll find me lurking in the shadows - occasionally putting in my 2cents worth when i have the nerve or the energy. But in general i just want to say that Dancer is a blast and be patient - they are trying to help us.

Oh that's real positive. Keep up the good work.

Oh, but Panthu, you were a darn good tank. You took the shots and you're still standing! (Although battered and bruised, I'm sure. )

I'd also agree with <insert name that I've already forgotten here>. I don't think anybody can effectivelyargue the point that developer attention wasn't urgently needed a year ago. The large community outcry caught their ear (early or late, I'll never know, because them seemed to ignore us for some time still), and things have started to happen. Look at our bugs list! It has dramatically decreased in size (or has been addressed by the team in some way) over the past couple of months. Our time in the spotlight is coming. I'm optimistically looking forward to the grand show. What we've seen so far are simply trailers of what's to come. Just think of the possiblities! I can't wait to see more ideas for our profession revamp in the near future. (I'm speaking of new Ideas in the near future, not the revamp. I'm really not complaining about it, but I think that's going to be quite a distance down the road )

Quickie note - as one of the only 3 DC's ever, I can honestly say I never felt bullied by this community. I sometimes felt like I was sort of a meatshield for the other side, lol, but I never felt put on the spot by my fellow Dancers. I often felt pressed to represent all the various views of our community where there was some divergence, but I think the position demands that attention. RM did it. Deila does it. I did it to the best of my ability for my tem.

Sometimes a Corr has to do a little bit of tongue biting or hand smacking, but it's rarely because the sentiment isn't understood. Anyway, blah, we're a passionate community - the happy ones, the fighters, and even our trolls, lol. DCs don't get bullied by Dancers afaik.

.. also, I agree with Sirii and the others. The fight needed to happen, look back to the original Ent 10 answers when we were told we would not be seeing any changes or additions because we were working as intended. The freak out phase was needed. Changes are happening now and more seem to be on the way so hopefully we can all get back to the happy bunch we always wanted to be. I think Deila is doing a killer job at setting a new positive tone to carry us upwards and onwards to our great revampage and I am as excited about this prof as ever!

Yes, good things, improvements, things we've been requesting (loudly) for quite some time are good. They are nice.

We even often post our happiness here.

Nice idea on the thread - how about we not tell people what they did wrong, inviting criticism?

All I know is.. Aside from Fuschia, none of my friends can stomach the attitude on this board.

I took a quick glance of the topics when I posted this, A LOT of what is being said IS positive. "Everything Dancer - Guides and More" rocks, "advice needed on interacting with fellow entertainers" is about helping someone interact with entertainers.

"Can we clean up the Hen house?" has negative implications and it just starts off this entire discussion with a negative spin. Calling this forum a 'Hen house' is far from positive and people come in to the discussion with a negative first impression. You add more momentum to that negative spin by pointing out how your friends avoid and dislike this community. Only then do you start pointing out the positive but you've already set the tone in the opposite direction from where you want to go.

Water under the bridge.

The most important thing I want to say Else is that if you friends think that this forum is negative, then they should come here and make an effort to create positive discussions because giving up here is the most negative thing you can do to the community.

Isleh, this post was written on 12/30/04 The forum I am happy to say is looking much better now

I don't know if some of the angry regulars have left or what but there is defineately a lot more talk of the good in dancing than there was.

Speaking of which, I'd love to read some more stories about good experiences you've had with dancing. Please feel free to post some more positive experiences in that thread
