Thread: Dancer request from a non-entertainer
Geez: Meee-ow.
Regardless of how the band feels about AFK'ers, I as a patron shouldn't _have_ to care about the internal politics of entertainers. If I am in a rush and pop in and pop out of a cantina for a quick top off, I'd really appreciate a /tipband command; all the members in the band, AFK and non-entertainer alike have helped restore my wounds/fatigue. Now, I can see the problem with non-entertainers that are in the band for training from someone in the band, but that happens fairly infrequently, I'd imagine.
What I don't want to deal with is 15 minutes figureing out who gets tips and who doesn't so I can keep with the internal politics of theentertainer community. If there are AFK'ers in the group I'm listening to, they're still helping me out if they're playing. If it's a larger wound and I'm going to have spend some time, then of courseI'll socialize (when I feel like it, sometimes you're just anti-social) and if there's a specific dancer/musician that's making my downtime more enjoyable, I'll tip that person. If there are only afk'ers, I'd still like to leave a small tip for the band, since they did help me.
I'm sorry if that sounds selfish, but forcing people to tip isn't the answer, and a /tipband would help quite a bit. It would suck to have someone get a share that's just there training, but there are player-enforced ways to handle that.
Like I said; I really don't know nor do I care about the politics between Entertainers in a given cantina. Settle it backstage.

being that this is the dancer forum, it is sort of our backstage.
I do think /tipband would be a good thing. I am just discussing my minor problems with it. But like I said before, if it did become an option, maybe group leaders would be more inclined to kick the AFKers out.
Even though there are problems, being able to tip the whole band would probably be a good thing, as it would encourage those people who feel "I'm in a hurry" or "This was worth 500 credits to me, but 500 credits split 20 ways isn't worth my time" to throw a bit of money in the pot.

The whole concept of /bandtip revolves around the idea that EVERY Entertainer in a Cantina is providing Exactly the same level of service, Exactly the same amount of "Entertainment" as every other.
No no no.
That's not why anyone wants it. We and our patrons who ask for it want it because the patron who feels like the whole band deserves an equal tip doesn't want to have to whip out a friggin' calculator and try to compute how many credits to give everybody. He doesn't want to have to count the # of people in the group, divide by 17, round up to the nearest whole number and then (blargh) type /tip (name) 150 to every single member of a large group.
He wants to be able to say, "The band deserves 1000 credits, equally divided" and have the option to do that. This is about what the customer thinks the band deserves. If the customer believes the band should be tipped equally across the board, who are you to say no to that? /bandtip doesn't replace /tip... it puts a new tool in place for customers to use.
You seem to feel like if you are a master dancer surrounded by a bunch of little novice entertainers, the tipper should tip you a LOT more because you are doing more for his healing than all the novices combined. Well, maybe you're right... if the customer agrees, he will /tip and not /bandtip. You're certainly free to suggest it to him. Or, as I tried to say above, don't join the group. Nobody is forcing you to group with these people. You're a master dancer. You don't need them. XP no longer matters, so you get no benefit from grouping with them (but they get one from grouping with you, tips or no tips -- they get more XP... they're not "earning" that either, right?).
If you're so worried about giving disproporitionate benefits to the group and not being able to get disproportionate rewards, don't group. You can't stop someone from evenly dividing his tip. /bandtip doesn't make it possible to do that -- it just makes it easier.

I usually don't make me-too posts, because I figure someone else has already put my feelings well enough into words, but this is the kind of thing where I think a me-too is deserved...
So, Chessack, me too. I agree.
I almost went on and stated my reasons anyway (bad habit?), but really, they don't need to be said. They're the same as Chessack's.
