Thread: No more 30-second buff
Panthu,
I'd also like to hear about world peace as well.
As for dancer speedbuffing. I actually tried it out for the first time this past week to see if it worked. I experimented for groups and whatnot. It really doesn't bother me that this alleged "exploit" was nerfed. But, all I can say is that, my clients were extraordinarily pleased with getting such a fast buff. Of course, now I'll have to explain that my 2 day experiment stint no longer works. lol. I honestly hadn't decided whether I was going to continue to use it or not. Above all, I like the idea of performing a lot better, that's just how I play. However, I greatly wish that it too less than 10 minutes to apply. That really is too long, IMO. I do see the point, however, about doc buffs and resources. But, you also have to keep in mind that docs buff 6 stats. As dancers, we buff one. Doc buffs have a higher market value, and I've started to see people gladly pay 12-15K for them, more than making up resource costs for the doctor. Dancers on the other hand seem, on average, to be charging and getting away with 7 or 8k for the one mind pool stat. So, in the long run, we're probably making the same amount of money per buff. I don't know this for sure because I'm not a doctor and don't know how much it costs to make a doctor buff. But, I think financially, we're doing about the same per buff session. Yet, I'm sure you've all seen the lines when doctors are buffing. What do they make, something like 10k every 2 minutes...that's like 250K an hour. Even taking away the cost of a doctor buff, and making our buffs equal at 10K a pop. They get 250K to our 60K. The docs definitely have an advantage here.
So, I would love to see, and would even lobby to see a shorter buffing time. I see no reason why we can't do a 30 second to 2 minute buff via a dance performance routine to make us on par. Despite buff making costs and resource hunting, I really think that the dancers and musicians are at a distinct financial disadvantage. A lot of people even forego mind buffs and use as much brandy as possible instead of having to wait too long, which further cuts into our money making opportunities.
So, while I see no problem with the speedbuff exploit being fixed, I definitely see a problem with our buffs taking so long to implement.

Yes the wording is sort of ambiguous and even having access to the secret executive washroom, like Panthu, I'm also confused and waiting for a crystal clear answer. In the meantime, I have a master dancer on TC, and am roping a master musician into helping me, so hopefully I can help Panthu test the changes.
Panthu is the best-dressed dancer on TC... in hawtpants!

We'll get it all sorted out before it goes live... I just might not be able to quote TH without the Decipher Key. ![]()
Thanks for posting n'Jessi! *hugs*
Didn't you get the secret decoder ring? Hee hee, don't worry, we got your back on TC. We'll test it and report how it actually works so no need for sneaky dev answers ![]()
Here's an example of what usually happens:
Panthu: TH, are we getting X and Y, or is Z a substitute for X and Y?
TH: Yes.
Panthu: *boggle*
Is that about right?

Yes, hehe... but Kwee tried to train me in the ways of the list and TH speak early on.
"Breaking down is key to clear answers young Dancer!" hehe ![]()
I have to say though, I think TH is really trying a lot harder when it comes to Dancer feedback... n'Jessi knows that. She's hand holding me in there too.
We are lucky to have such great Dancer support in the Corr Forums. ![]()
We should probably never be able to buff a person as quickly as Doctors do. It just wouldn't seem right. After all, in real life, a doctor could always give you an injection, or a pill to make you feel good relatively quickly. Butwhen watching someone perform, relaxing and enjoying the showactually eases, soothes, and clearsthe mind
. It takes time to relax.
Otherwise, people would say "Hurry up and relax!" heehee ![]()

It just occured to me that I've never tested to see if /changedance resets the flo timer as well... a 15 second delay in /stopd - /startd could still be worked around if /changed accomplishes the same thing...
No, /changedance does not reset the flourish timer. However, it can be used to help get dancers in sync, bettern than /stopdance and /startdance can. When you /changedance, it "pauses" your idle dance step. When you /changedance back, you go right back to where you had been.
There are perhaps a few performances I've done which would be hurt by this, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.. And performing is all about creatively working with what you have.. Changing what you have doesn't change performing, it just changes how you do it.
Even at 10 minutes, we can buff both faster and slower than doctors. Sure, you buff the individuals slowly, but you can do 20 people at once (19 in group + 1 /setperm) so it takes you 10 minutes to buff everyone while the doctor can do 1 person in 1.8 minutes (According to an above poster) so 20 people would take 36 minutes.
We're designed to work with crowds, not individuals.

The only people who will have to explain to people that they can't do it anymore are the ones who did it to begin with despite being told that it is potentially an exploit. That's the price they pay for not heeding the warning.
I'm sure Uncle Tiaga didn't mean to be harsh kiddies... keep posting your thoughts no matter what they are. Just try to remember what Tiaga says, we will be doing the same things, even if our method changes. ![]()
No doom and gloom for dancers! We're the party people! ![]()
