Thread: POLL: Skill Point Investment [RESULTS]

SP buy in does not directly translate into Dev time and it never did. It never will. It only is a mechanic for helping make sure players are encouraged to make the correct choices for promoting fair and balanced skill building.

Some things make sense when looked at as a trade off, combat investment vs combat investment, crafting income asset vs crafting income asset, and crafting income asset vs combat investment all make sense and can be weighed out in easy to understand units such as physical or financial power accrual.

Social skills? Don't translate as well. Neither do Piloting Skills, Politician Skills, or even Scouting Skills for that matter though. Medical Skills have already been re-evaluated by being forced into the Combat/Crafting molds where they can be weighed in SP units that are easily understood (CU changes). Rangers will most likely follow that path shortly after the CU.

We lose a lot of our uniqueness by trying to figure out ways to force us into those easily weighed Crafter/Combat units. Yes, it could be done, but do we really want to keep pushing for that? Or would we be better served by marking out our own new scale in the way Pilot and Pol are now allowed to do?

I think we might be able to fit in somewhere in between, so I'd vote for option 2 at this point and try to work with the Devs to say what that actual investment translates into on Social play terms.

Im no dancer but musician, but i beleive it's the same "fight" isn't it? ^^
My vote goes on the "2", but heh, dont know if it really counts because the main reason for that vote is that I have currently have a hybrid combattant/entertainer template: Master Entertainer, Master Musician, Master TKA + one novice 1000 bonus profession beeing scout or medic depending on the weather / mind . The Mandoviol (Master Entertainer ) already took away a great deal of "versatility", the CU will finish that by preventing me to have that "bonus novice 1000 profession" because of the new skill requirements of TKA (as other combat professions).

My point is that i like having the possibility to enjoy various game style (entertaining / hunting and even some little PvP) without having to buy a damn secondary account as so many people finally do. A little bunch of bonus skill points would definitely be most welcome. (And I dont think the "über" +7 defenses a Master Musician get would really cause any serious balance problems )

In an ideal world, I'd vote for #1. I'd rather have the devs make us functional and important.

However, I have finally come to realize that is never going to happen, so, I'll settle for 3 should I continue to play this game.

Myfirst choicewould be door #1, however I worry if it stays the same then it just would be useless boxes for undetermined time till they get around of throwing us another bone.

So I will vote for # 2.

Not really happy about it, but it does seems the lesser of two evils (#2 and #3)

3. I would like for the Skill Point requirement to be eliminated.

I love the profession and always will, but what they're doing to us and our work, we may as well just get our skill points eliminated entirely. I'd much rather see songs and dances become usable by all than see the Devs flush us down the drain until we become useless anyway....

Can I vote for a combination of #1 and #2?

I want our healing boxes made into something useful to theplayer baseand fun for us. I also want our excessively high SP to be reduced to be more in line with the other elite professions - not the other way around.

As the others have said, it all depends on the bigger picture and just what is going on behind those doors. But, I think the question that begs to be asked is - does SOE reallycare what we want? I have truly serious doubts that they do. Sometimes I wonder if SOE wouldn't like this "grand experiment" to just disappear completely so they can pretend it was all just a bad dream . . .

Oh, and yes - I think Musicians have a say in this, as well. Roho, darling - would you like to step up to the podem? (It's probably not going to happen today, he's busy, busy, busy, busy!)

I'm in the same boat with my skill tree except I keep a little dance knowledge instead of scouting. The CU is already forcing me to make choices that affect my play style radically. I would hate to see a skill point reduction because it means that the devs are giving up on us but at the same time I want that reduction if it means I can keep the template I find fun.

I can't really vote here because the CU changes have completely destroyed the viability and versatility of all the non-combat professions in my opinion. You can't survive in the big wild world without some combat to allow you to wear armor. You can't be on equal footing with other fighters unless you are pure combat. I don't see any way to fix things short of stopping the CU and that isn't going to happen. The CU isn't about balancing the game anymore it is about SOE reducing their expenses through merging the EQ2 and SWG code bases. That is more obvious with every patch to TC-5. SWG2 A Code Base United.

I prefer 2, because I do like having one combat profession just in case I get attacked while shopping

After seeing the latest post from Tiggs I say you demand that all skill point costs are removed. They have turned us into experience/faction point gain buffers. This is AWFUL!

My knee jerk reaction is to lower the skill points (2) but I think this is a bad idea.

By taking out skill points that is basically saying "we know we are less important and don't want any more content"

So I vote to keep the full value of skill points and try and try and try to get some content added to that utterly useless wound healing tree.

Yes, that would be ideal, but at this point I've lost any hope that it will ever happen. Therefore, I'm going to have to say my answer is:

3. Remove the skill point requirement entirely.

1. I would like for our Skill Point requirement to stay the same.

A reduction of Skillpoints would make us be "less valuable". I know we don't get much respect already, but we get some. If the Skillcosts gets reduced there is less we have to "sacrifice", and therefore the respect for us keeping it will be less.

A elimination of Skillpoints would be the worst that could happen to us. Everyone and their grandmother would pick up dancer and musician and be master after a few days AFK Grinding. Being a Master Dancer/Musician/Entertainer would be worth nothing at all anymore, its just something "you get for free on the side anyway".
Besides it would put us into a position where it would be near to impossible to get any changes done as long as any "real" proffession would want something.

I enjoy being a Dancer and I don't want us to be destroyed.
