But they are still going to "fix" it, aren't they? Please say they will...

"That being said I would like to clarify something; it is not a violation of the TOS, the EULA, or any other rule in SWG to use a macro and be AFK."

From the EULA: "...you may not use or distribute macros or other programs which would allow unattended game play"

Thanks for the clarification Jeassa. Could you please explain the difference between 'unattended gameplay', which is forbidden by the EULA, and leaving a macro running for 8 hours with the character completely unresponsive because the player is actually at work 20 miles away?

Jeassa,

what does it mean in #7 of the EULA then that whole part about using a macro to allow unattended gameplay?

This is what I mean i keep hearing both sides. some say it is some say its not. I dont mean is it ENFORCED - i want to know yes or no is it allowed, and i am not talking about running to the bathroom,

im talking about people who leave there macroes running all day and night day after day after day. If that doesnt fall under "unattended gameplay" i dont know what does. If it is allowed then they need to redefine the EULA i guess cause it plainly says you may not use a macro to allow unattended gameplay and that is whats causing such a fuss

My brain hurts.

What is the difference between the unattended gameplay prohibited by the EULA and the unattended macroing that is apparently not prohibited?

"Macros are in the game to automate those things that can be. If someone chooses to marco their dance moves - who cares?"

the problem is not with macroes - the problem is with unattended gameplay - i use a macro consistintly all the time but i dont let it run while im not there.

"However, if someone is paying their $14.95/month to play the game and their style of play does not grief you, orimpeed your playingthe game- what business of your is it how they choose to play?"

and it DOES grief us! Its a slap in the face to everyone who is doing it the hard way. What do u do if theres not a medic in the med center? you send a tell asking for one to come. I used to get tells all the time asking to go to the cantina if no one was there - we all did - they were called gigs. But not since the afk plague has spread. And even if it IS only 3rd party programs that are not allowed in the EULA - how do theuy KNOW that thats not what people are using. Or do they not even care. I guess this is just a free ride to invite 3rd party macros to macroevery single class in the game - we'll have a whole server full of afk zombies and the cumminity will be dead - fun fun fun!But hey as long as it doesnt interefer with YOUR gameplay - huh? you starting to see how it interfers with everyones gameplay now??

"Andthat means allowing the casual gamer be AFK at times in order to accomplish things that otherwise could not be done at the same rate as the hardcore RPG players."

but the 'casual' gamer is then getting to master before the hardcore RPGers because even they do not play for 24 hours a day days on end like the afk macroers - how is that fair? so your saying that if i play LESS I should be entitled to level faster then?

"1. They make the group bigger which shoots uphealing rates. "

not always- u cant invite or be invited if you are afk - i am often there with a cantina of 15 people with only 2 not afk and thinking about all the wasted exp the afkers are causing. and all the people who come in watching them because theyre smack dab in the middle of the floor and dont have there signs turned on so they dont know - why would they turn there signs on? they want the free xp remeber? these are not people witha sense of fairplay

if you do AFK and you truly do not want to grief anyone then either do it in your own home or do it in the back far away from the main group with no words in your macro and your afk sign on. But i have a feeling the majority of afk-ers coiuld care less if they inconvienence there fellow dancers, i hope i am wrong

jeassa

sorry one more post - forgot to add it to the last one, this is a question to Jeassa please,

is using third party programs for unattended gameplay allowed or not. I know it says they arent in the EULA but since it also says macroes arent allowed i just wanted to double check your position.

If it is not allowed i only have one question - how do u tell the difference. i mean - unattended gameplay is unattended gameplay. Just wondering how you guys know ifsome of them aren't using 3rd party programs instead? Or is it ok to use 3rd party programs too?

I am a casual gamer and i'm repulsed by the amount of AFK'ers I come across. I can only play 2 hours or so on weekdays but in 2 weeks time I made Novice dancer (almost 1/2/1/2) and Musician 3, don't give me crap about casual gamers wanting to power level to master.

I rather have LESS experience and have someone like Eila or Laryssa (on my server) to join me dancing because we can put on a nice dancing show because we are all at the keyboard matching our dance moves and since yesterday matching our lightshows, yes we are all three around the same level, I think we started around the same time as well, I know Eila was slightly ahead of me when I started.

Alot of guests and fellow performers don't like AFK'ers though, I had several guests see if I was there, one even openly started "I have a tip for you AFK people" at which point I just stopped dancing and told him nobody there was AFK, as far as I knew, and if he thought we were then he can choke on his tip, he came in right as we were doing a 2 dancer matching clothes show with band flourishes, he was nice though, we had a short discussion about AFK people and when he left he tipped both of us dancers doing the show

You may be right about the faster healing, sometimes I just stop dancing and I get all kind of encouragement to go dancing again, must be the fatigue and wound healing 2 that no longer applies when I stop dancing or start to play music, hehe.

AFK'ers should just go away, they distract me because I have to listen to the anti AFK whiners who speak to us about it because the AFK'er is at school or work or wherever, booting from the group doesn't help, they still ruine our show.

Saturday I saw that they aren't completely stupid though, I had left for Corellia to attend a wedding and later we went to the cantina there and I grouped with my bodyguard when we went back to Mos Eisley and the entertainers there saw I was in a group they just kept going "Can I get a invite please", "Denisa, please invite me", hehe made me feel better after a visit to the Correlia cantina which gave me a real shudder. I guess I make a good groupleader, one that isn't afraid to /changeband to see if everyone is paying attention.

If you're not here to augment and enhance our show then there is the side room, there is the backroom and right there is the door sweety.

Have read for months ppls excuses for afking lol. Thats what they are ...excuses. No one says you need to hit master in a specified time. Now have seen afk master musicians who set up in a busy town..well populated with entertainers..what reason? Bestine well populated now has 6-8 afk bots...one that has afk all the way to master musician and he still afks there...for what purpose? No longer does Bestine have a need for the real performers anymore. For those who say they afk Lok etc..laughs..if ppl need healing they will go get it..you are only kidding yourself into thinking you are really helping the powergamers and not just helping yourself. Sorry if this sounds acidic but sooo sick of the excuses for being a lamer. Oh and to the ppl that afk for a meal or bathroom or laundry..this does NOT apply to you.

I have the right to remain silent...but not the ability

Many of them end up surrendering their dancing skill. That which is gained without effort has no value

Isn't that the truth! I work long and hard to make master dancer, and at this time there is NO WAY i would give it up!! I might not dance as much as i used to but i still go to the cantian where all my friends are, a couple other masters and we put on a great show for everyone.

I never macro'd, matter of fact, i still don't know how to set up a repeating one so that has to tell you something

I whole heartedly agree that AFK entertainers are ruining the profession for those who work hard to become what they are. I sometimes wonder if people look at me and think i macro'd my way to the top....

I know this was posted to try and help the cause of Dancers/Entertainers who do not like AFK Macroers.

That being said I would like to clarify something; it is not a violation of the TOS, the EULA, or any other rule in SWG to use a macro and be AFK. The CSR in this case was mistaken in their answer, and it has been sent along to their supervisor so that the rules can be clarified for those CSRs who may be confused on the policy.

I wanted to make sure that everyone was aware that the policies do not state that it is a violation. I am not trying to encourage AFK macros just simply making sure the policies are understood since in this case it was incorrect.
