Thread: Our Dancer Issues for the Devs
Great list!!! Not too demanding and not asking for outrageous tasks. I think the devs will be more open to taking these into consideration then a giant "wish" list asking for things that would require months of work and design. Good job.
Here's another idea that my partner in crime Liannah s'Ffalenn suggested. Have the ability to book the dev theatres and hotels for performances. I understand that's why we have player theatres, but does anyone know if you can put a cover charge on these structures? This would be a great way for entertainers/dancers/musicians to make money also. A post was made about having non-afk'ers go to hotels and theatres to perform. Keeping this in mind and applying the booking idea. The entry fee would get divided amoungst the entertainers automatically, and default the afk timer to 5 minutes (filtering out the afk'ers in this atmosphere.). If players want live entertainment then they can pay for a cover charge at the door. I would suggest leave the cantinas to the afk'ers (everyone needs a home LOL), and let the live avatars have the theatre's and hotels.
Just throwing a suggestion and I realize the time it would take to program something to this affect. Just want to know everyones take on this...
... you know what else we need? a /startdance for group, or a /syncdance. musicians sync automatically, why shouldn't dancers? at least give us the option to do so, if someone wants to dance offbeat that's cool too.
The more I think about it the more I get tangled up in the details, but maybe there's something there. I find that I mainly just want musician buffs (secondaries are far more important to me). It's a bummer when I can only find a master dancer and I have to say: sure, I'll take a buff, but I -really- need a musician.
I've only been playing for 3 weeks...but I've been playing a LOT. Because I'm a big ol' noob...I don't understand all the ins and outs of all the suggestions, but the ones I DO understand are right on the money.
I'd like to throw my oar in about falling. I think it serves an important function and should be kept. First...it keep people humble. Second, it adds that nice touch of realism that I've come to expect from this game. Third...other characters suffer failures...why not the performer?
Certainly the chance of falling at higher levels should be small...but it should still be there. Any performer worth their salt, needs to know how to deal with the unexpected....in a professional manner. If the character gets ribbed about falling and can't take it...they shouldn'tBE a performer.
As to the comment about "falling ruining choreography in a large show"...yep...it does. But then, that's life in the theatre, isn't it? You dust off your fanny and go on.
Having to dance with a weapon isn't a hardship...and can create very nice effects and adds choreographic possiblities. Not a big price to pay for better balance and a better look.
I LOVED the bit about non dancers falling and getting hurt! Heck...the non dancers moves are better than some of the lower level dances we have. Let the gun bunnies realize that dancing is harder than it looks.
I'd also like to see the musicians hit a few "clinkers" every once in a while. No musician that I know never hits a sour note.
The last thing I'd like to comment on is the Deny Service idea. GREAT! I've been whacked by a couple of people while I danced...and having a Deny Service option would warm the cockles of my vindictive little heart.

Personally, I'd really like to see a watch list added so I know who is watching me. I also liked the idea of being able to check on who is watching for wound healing and who is watching for fatigue. Maybe to make it different from the "Diagnose" feature that Medics give, we could get on screen cues such as "So-and-so appears very weary" and "So-and-so seems to be having a hard time thinking". The first would indicate Battle Fatigue, and the second would indicate mental wounds, mostly the secondaries since we can gauge somewhat the primary wounds. These cues could indicate the severity of both wounds and fatigue by simple descriptors. It would be very similar to how Rangers get a message stating "You feel you are being stalked by XXX".
Also, I'd love for a /deny feature that would let me stop anyone who wasn't on my friends list from obtaining service unless I chose to heal them. Obviously, the general mode would be set to off, so that you're healing everyone, but Dancers (and all entertainers for that matter) would get a choice to heal people. I find that too many players are taking advantage of the AFK situation as an excuse not to tip. I tend to only dance in remote locations where AFK dancers (or any entertainer) are a rarity. Yet, the mind set is that they don't have to tip. Heals are nice, but being a dancer since August has taught me what dances I can do for an extended period of time while using flourishes. I'd rather a simple thank you if a person really can't afford to pay a tip. However, a system where I can dictate who gets to be healed would make it much easier than spending my entire dance watching for patrons to add to my /deny list while I'm trying to do other things (like being social and ATK).
Finally, I love the idea of players being able to do some dances and failing horribly at them. It would be like the equivalent of trying to use a LLC when you barely are a Novice Marksman. It can be done, but you really suck at it. However, I still have fun when people start doing /dance while waiting for a shuttle. It's very easy to /startdance lyrical2 and flourish away. While they learned one measily flourish (flourish 1 from that dance), I can continue on to the other 3 flourishes that the dance has (wish it had more and wasn't broken visually when not flourishing....).
I'd like to toss in a suggestion for income.
It would be nice if you could get a mission from a booking agent that worked very similar to the current NPC entertainer missions. The difference, however, would be that it would send you to a random NPC theater where you would need to dance for 30 minutes. As your skills in music/dance get higher, the duration of the missions increases, the payout increases, and the advanced planets become available for locations. Example, a novice dancer might get a missions in Coronet that told them to dance at the cantina in Bela Vistal, whereas a dancer with knowledge III might get a mission in Coronet todance on Lok. A master might get sent to Endor. You can also group up to boost the mission levels, so 10 people with dance/music 2 from the entertainer trees could still get missions to Lok, Dantooine, etc.
The payout is given at the end of the contract, and would actually be significant enough to make it worthwhile. I'm not going to offer a suggestion on the amount since I don't have access to the in-game financial metrics, but it would need to be comparable (althougha bit less since we don't need to buy armor or weapons)to what an average combat player might earn doing destroy missions for the same amount of time. In fact, the whole system works very much like destroy missions in terms of "level" and payout, but uses time and location instead of mob difficulty to determine the reward.
Having a system like this does two things: it provides an alternate means of worthwhile income, and it staffs some of the lesser used cantinas. Ideally, there'd be some mechanism to determine which cantinas were the least populated when the mission was being generated, which would in turn yield a higher percentageof those cantinas being selected. In that way, you'd more likely have a few different entertainers getting missions to the same cantina, so nobody would be standing there alone for thirty to sixty minutes.

Personal Cantina:
We still need to be able to have a list of people that are the only ones allowed to skill animate entertainer skills in our own cantina. It is private building after all and I feel expecting us to /ban everyone we don’t want dancing we should be able to make a much shorter list of those we DO want.
Or at least give us the ability to deny people from dancing on stage. I just it it when I finally get a good number of people in my cantina and some yahoo in his comp armor comes on stage and does that dumb /dance.
Also, a backstage would be nice. A place to store props and supplies.
And, I know this is a minor thing astetically and a big deal programatically, but I'd love the ability to actually put things on the bar and on the shelves behind the bar!
Other than that, I agree with Sultrina and the rest of the suggestions. Yes yes yes to props ![]()
Thanks ![]()
Alternate Income:
Oh god please don’t give us anything craft able. As far as the rest goes I’ve always felt this class’s entire income should be based on tips and I believe the missions that were already added pay more then enough. That said I would love to see spy missions but they should not be entertainer only.
Who is watching:
I don’t think that’s any of our business but I would love to see and indication that someone is watching IE: You feel eyes upon you. I am capped in my healing exp so I don’t know when I am healing someone.
Denial of service enchantments:
The only change I support here is removing the command from the game entirely
Falling:
The fall rate should be looked into and maybe turned down a tad and the put a weapon in your hand and not fall exploit should be fixed(if your holding a weapon for the sole purpose of not falling yes it is an exploit)
Faction:
The only way we should get faction points for healing our own faction is if a dancer overt or covert is no longer able to heal members of other factions at all! You cant have your cake an eat it too.
Light show:
I say leave the action cost and the fact that it doesn’t boost exp alone last thing we need is a reason for this to be spamed.
Personal Cantina:
We still need to be able to have a list of people that are the only ones allowed to skill animate entertainer skills in our own cantina. It is private building after all and I feel expecting us to /ban everyone we don’t want dancing we should be able to make a much shorter list of those we DO want.
