Thread: Be honest, did you master dancer without ever going AFK?
Yep I can say I mastered Dancer without going AFK to level - I would go AFK for like a minute to get something to drink but that was about it. I took my time leveling dancer and I will say all the time I spent in Cantinas was a lot of fun and I can't wait to get it back

Yes I mastered 99% at the keyboard. I went AFK from time to time to go to the bathroom, get a snack/drink, or answer the phone. But I never set up a macro and ran overnight or while I was at work. If I had to leave the keyboard for a long time I either sat down before setting myself afk, or I logged off. Logging off to take care of real-world situations...now there's a novel concept. ![]()
And Neo, I know you're a troll and all, but if you're going to insult and slander us, why hide behind an illegible font color to do it?
I confess that I did grind AFK at times. *hangs head in shame* Of course, that was back when I had a life. It was also back before hologrinding. The only thing that annoys me about the current AFK grinding situation is that there are SO MANY. If it were only one or two, who cares?
But, I don't dance anymore.

I only reached Master entertainer last night/this morning and am starting up the Dancer trees now. I do go AFK overnight and during the day just to keep going on the xp. However, when I am home and awake, I am at the computer, greeting people, helping some IDers out, and really having fun. Heck, yesterday I was having a hard time with the group in the Coronet Cantina and started a new group that made it up to 13 people at one point as the "second" group. This from a very un-social person. I do enjoy it, but I also want to progress through the levels. I wouldn't have issue with it except that, as many people have stated, this profession would take weeks to master if I didn't. By contrast, pistoleer and fencer each took a matter of days (4-6). I am hologrinding (I admit it), but even if I open I plan to try all of the professions, just to try them out. I might even come back to this one, but many of the perks (better dances, buffs) lie at the higher levels. Of course I want to progress as fast as possible! I do try to stay out of the way when I afk and fully expect to be booted from a group if there are live people who want in. Most AFKers do this. Is it a little annoying sometimes? Yes. Are we the bane of the game and evil? No. We're just trying to have fun too. As long as we're not hurting anyone, who cares?
Thanks for offering your opinion! It's good to get some of the other opinions out in the open. I might not agree wtih everything you say, but that's what makes us different.
I find AFKers more than a little annoying, and I know I'm not the only one. And, although many AFKers may not care if they get booted for live entertainers, I've been presented with situations where the group leader was waiting for people to disband by themselves before accepting new people into the group. It's the primary reason I refuse to enter the Coronet Cantina to dance. I might not think you are the bane of the game and evil, but I do find your style of play as damaging to mine and other people's in this game. This is a style/personality difference typically, but it none-the-less has driven many dedicated dancers to either leave their profession and/or quit the game. I would in fact classify that as hurting someone. Where you may not have directly done so, your willingness to dnace in such a fashion associates yourself with those who have driven these people away. It would be guilt by association.
However, I hope you don't feel that I am flaming you because I was merely trying to show where many of us are on the opposite side.
I leveled dancer and musician so many times I've lost count. Every time I get close to where I want to be, something happens where I have to drop it for one reason or another (my merchant quits the game, the guild needs a medic, the guild needs a master artisan, etc). So yes, after the first few times I did afk.
Now I'm leveling on TC, and as Tess points out, it's very different than on live. I'm usually afk-ing when I'm asleep, off to the side, no spam. At the same time, though, from having experience with being an entertainer numerous times before, I won't get to master and be dazed and confused about which instruments go with which songs, or which flourishes are borked in which dances.
However, I point out that I purposely asked the cantina owner about the afk policy before doing so. If there were a no-afk policy, I would not be afk-ing.
I did a couple overnights in my house........the doors are locked anyway.
I also did a short session one night, left my toon on the roof of her honey's house. Woke up and found her on the ground. *chuckle*
Darkesong on sunrunner never never did afk dancing...and even more...I had no idea what a macro was since the game had just started, so every single flourish I actually pushed a button for lol. It sometimes got hectic balancing groups, chatting, clients and timing flourishes and techniques....but it did a lot to keep it from becoming deadly boring.
