Yep I can say I mastered Dancer without going AFK to level - I would go AFK for like a minute to get something to drink but that was about it. I took my time leveling dancer and I will say all the time I spent in Cantinas was a lot of fun and I can't wait to get it back

I happily took my time getting to Master Dancer, and I remember letting the lovely Niemph teach me that back a few months ago. I, like so many of the people who have posted, only went AFK to grab a quick drink or run to the bathroom. If I grew tired of the Cantina, I took a break and went hunting with some friends. Even stranger, if I was bored with the game, I would <gasp> log out! I wanted to enjoy getting my Master title. Heck, I remember the wookie who pretty much got me the 20K of entertainer healing xp I needed for one of my levels in dancer. I was ready to log, but he came in, and I could not resist staying on to get that xp. Once he was healed and on his way, I trained my level and then logged.

Yes I mastered 99% at the keyboard. I went AFK from time to time to go to the bathroom, get a snack/drink, or answer the phone. But I never set up a macro and ran overnight or while I was at work. If I had to leave the keyboard for a long time I either sat down before setting myself afk, or I logged off. Logging off to take care of real-world situations...now there's a novel concept.

And Neo, I know you're a troll and all, but if you're going to insult and slander us, why hide behind an illegible font color to do it?

I confess that I did grind AFK at times. *hangs head in shame* Of course, that was back when I had a life. It was also back before hologrinding. The only thing that annoys me about the current AFK grinding situation is that there are SO MANY. If it were only one or two, who cares?

But, I don't dance anymore.

NeoTheTroll is often funny and sometimes even right, but not on this one. No one can ever say they saw Panthu dancing afk to level, not even to answer the phone or bio. It was no big deal, I just sat down. I've still never left a char up over night or to go on any kind of extended afk. Dragul even makes fun of me b/c if I do go afk to dance with an alt, I stay panicky about it and check on her every 5 secs and usually end up either staying to chat if anyone is awake or just logging.

I don't really like leaving my avs unattended where other people can see them anywhere in any game, it just kind of freaks me out. Even more so with a dancer in this game and even more so because I don't like the effects it has on the class. I don't feel passionately about it enough to flame afkers or have a kind of moral stance on it... and like I said, I don't think it even really matters at this point and I don't really think the zombies hurt anyone as long as they are staying in a zombie area.

Some people never afked to level (I didn't with Panthu so I know it's possible), some people afked briefly while mostly playing ATK, some people afked to level mostly but popped in to chat when people where around (lots of holotainers I met), and some people only afked to level and never talked to anyone at all (auto-joiners with a shout macro). All four have happened, I think the middle two are probably most common. As I've said before, beyond my personal hang ups with leaving a little cyber extension of myself out there to be freely naughty emoted at and beyond my dislikes for what it does to the profession's reputation, treatment, economy, and game play... I never wanted the 100% atk dancers to have a reason to dislike me.

I only slacked up on my own afk rule after the dev posts in the ent 10 answers and even now I suck at trying to go afk, even with alts I hardly ever play... so yes, it's totally possible to get to master with little afking and even zero afking.

I know you are a troll Neo, but try not to be silly.

I only reached Master entertainer last night/this morning and am starting up the Dancer trees now. I do go AFK overnight and during the day just to keep going on the xp. However, when I am home and awake, I am at the computer, greeting people, helping some IDers out, and really having fun. Heck, yesterday I was having a hard time with the group in the Coronet Cantina and started a new group that made it up to 13 people at one point as the "second" group. This from a very un-social person. I do enjoy it, but I also want to progress through the levels. I wouldn't have issue with it except that, as many people have stated, this profession would take weeks to master if I didn't. By contrast, pistoleer and fencer each took a matter of days (4-6). I am hologrinding (I admit it), but even if I open I plan to try all of the professions, just to try them out. I might even come back to this one, but many of the perks (better dances, buffs) lie at the higher levels. Of course I want to progress as fast as possible! I do try to stay out of the way when I afk and fully expect to be booted from a group if there are live people who want in. Most AFKers do this. Is it a little annoying sometimes? Yes. Are we the bane of the game and evil? No. We're just trying to have fun too. As long as we're not hurting anyone, who cares?

Thanks for offering your opinion! It's good to get some of the other opinions out in the open. I might not agree wtih everything you say, but that's what makes us different.

I find AFKers more than a little annoying, and I know I'm not the only one. And, although many AFKers may not care if they get booted for live entertainers, I've been presented with situations where the group leader was waiting for people to disband by themselves before accepting new people into the group. It's the primary reason I refuse to enter the Coronet Cantina to dance. I might not think you are the bane of the game and evil, but I do find your style of play as damaging to mine and other people's in this game. This is a style/personality difference typically, but it none-the-less has driven many dedicated dancers to either leave their profession and/or quit the game. I would in fact classify that as hurting someone. Where you may not have directly done so, your willingness to dnace in such a fashion associates yourself with those who have driven these people away. It would be guilt by association.

However, I hope you don't feel that I am flaming you because I was merely trying to show where many of us are on the opposite side.

I used to be a TKM (first elite prof mastered because it sounded cool) and a Master Doctor (Holo, + a handy proffesion imho) along with almost Master Scout.

I'm busy making doctor medicines and buffing people for money, and i am not really using my TKM skills, so i thought i'd drop it and put the points into something i could have some fun with.... Dancer!

I'm a slightly (cough) overweight, vertically challenged wookiee, which makes for some great entertaining when i bust a move on the dance floor (hence the reason i'm going to Master Dancer without the guidance of the holocron).

So this is now probably day 3 as a dancer (0032 entertainer), and i've been struck by how tedious this is to level. I now have 3 or 4 dances which makes things slightly better (varied) but at the end of the day its the same thing:

Dance -> flourish -> get xp -> rinse repeat.

Am i missing something here?

This requires absolutely no skill, has no variation and the novelty quickly wears off.

None of my XP in the game so far, has come from mindless grinding (combat is fun to kill stuff for, for medic xp i go out on hunts and heal/rez people etc). Tonight i shall leave my PC on with SWG running, while i dance away in a cantina.

At my current rate i'm getting about 160xp/minute with my afk macro (flo 1-8 with 15 sec pauses). My next level (ent. dancing 4) is 45,000 of this xp. That works out to over 4 1/2 hours of cantina time for this one bar.

Yes, dancing is fun, and i obviously see its attraction and role in the gameplay. Am i really going to spend 4 1/2 hours of my life sitting in what is really a glorified internet chatroom, when i could let it run over night and have twice the xp for 0% of the time?

Did I go afk to master dancer? Yep that I did, but only when I was asleep at night and I was always off to the side and not spamming anything. Any time I was awake I was either logged off if I couldn't play or at the keyboard talking with customers. Here is the catch though:

I did it on test center, I would never have done it on live.

Test center is completely different due to its lower population. I afked only at night when I slept(and not every night) and it still took me over a month to get the EH xp I needed to master, making me one of the first 10 or so master dancers on the whole server(and I mastered in January). And, I did this in the most populated cantina on the server O.o I'd probably still be working on Master too if it wasn't for great people like Pappi throwing EH xp parties I went a week once only getting 2k eh xp back in December lol.

Also, at the time I was doing this, there were usually no more than 3 or 4 entertainers in the cantina(our entertainer population has exploded since I mastered though due to more people coming over and/or holocroning. But, at the time, there were some nights when I was the only entertainer in there and possibly the only entertainer active on the entire server. So at least over in my corner I was keeping the cantina populated.

I'm working on Master musician now as well, and I don't afk much any more save for a handful of nights. I've been at that two months now, and still have 240k eh to go, and I got 200kof the eh xp I already do havefrom a massive eh xp party we had back in January that went for about a week.

So yeppers, I did afk part of the time while I mastered dancer, but only because I was on test where the already hard to get eh, is near impossible to find.

I leveled dancer and musician so many times I've lost count. Every time I get close to where I want to be, something happens where I have to drop it for one reason or another (my merchant quits the game, the guild needs a medic, the guild needs a master artisan, etc). So yes, after the first few times I did afk.

Now I'm leveling on TC, and as Tess points out, it's very different than on live. I'm usually afk-ing when I'm asleep, off to the side, no spam. At the same time, though, from having experience with being an entertainer numerous times before, I won't get to master and be dazed and confused about which instruments go with which songs, or which flourishes are borked in which dances.

However, I point out that I purposely asked the cantina owner about the afk policy before doing so. If there were a no-afk policy, I would not be afk-ing.

I did a couple overnights in my house........the doors are locked anyway.

I also did a short session one night, left my toon on the roof of her honey's house. Woke up and found her on the ground. *chuckle*

Darkesong on sunrunner never never did afk dancing...and even more...I had no idea what a macro was since the game had just started, so every single flourish I actually pushed a button for lol. It sometimes got hectic balancing groups, chatting, clients and timing flourishes and techniques....but it did a lot to keep it from becoming deadly boring.
