If you want to purely do the non combat profs I suppose there is no issue. Currently I feel anyone that wants to be a hybrid is going to have a rough time Everyone seems to be "level" aware now. Not to mention this new system undercuts health for non combat professions. I miss dancer and the difference between a hybrid social/combat and pure combat character is now night and day. I have tried various respecs.

Interesting thread... it's something I've been weighing myself. I posted a similar question to my guilds forum this evening:

Do I keep Master Dancer, or not?

Overall, the skill is mostly useless now. Our buffs aren't really worth much anymore... an extra 5% here or there is not going to make people come to usneeding a buff. Before, we were a required skill to the majority of combatants doing anything "high-end", and at least we were required as much as a Weaponsmith, Armorsmith, or Doctor. Not so any longer.

We also don't do anything actively anymore either... healing is passive (as always) but the 5% buff is passive now as well.

Lastly, it seems harder and harder to actually enjoy myself in a cantina. I'm an Imperial Lieutenant, yet still get harassed and pestered my ST patrols, accusing me of being a rebel, accusing me of being a drunk, dissing my attire (99% of the time I'm wearing a gown) and god knows whatever else they come up with. It's totally stupid! I'm trying to interact with customers, and spam from the troopers is actually worse than spam from AFKers. Enough already!!!

It's just upsetting to me, cause I always liked being a dancer. I liked meeting new people (met some amazing folks on Radiant in the last nearly 2 years since I've been dancing), and I liked being an integral part of the system. Not only did people come to me for buffs and healing, but being a Master Swordswoman, they wanted me to fight alongside them as well. Now, being who I am, nobody really needs me to dance, and since a single combat mastery is only lvl 54, I'm not really needed in combat either.

I feel second rate on both sides.

So there I am... do I stick with something I enjoyed but is mostly worthless now? It just always seems a shame to abandon the profession, cause it's something I've always been.
The people that have known me since Week 1 of SWG know I am a Dancer.

I know there's no simple answer... I'm just venting.

In Nov 03, shortly after our buffs' power and duration were extended, I dropped masters dancer, musician and entertainerbecause I didn't like the way I saw the professions going. I tried a lot of professions out over the following 4 months. I eventually returned to entertaining when a friend pointed out that I had been happiest when I was dancing.

While I am always saddened to see players leave the profession behind, I would be more saddened to think you were hanging on to it and being miserable. We're here to play a game. The only point is to have fun. My hope for everyone who wants to leave dancer right now is that they can do so without remorse and that they can find something they truly enjoy doing during their play time.

Dancer will still be here if you decide to come back. In the meanwhile, keep an eye on the forum because there is likely to be a lot of changes over the next few months. Whatever you do..wherever you go..just don't forget to have fun.

I really miss dancing when I'm on my second char. It's a tussle not to rush off to the trainer and get novice ent. The only way I could would be to drop one of her other profs. That's what has convinced me to keep Master Dancer on Caer.

Even though she is only CL56,Caer can deal a lot of damage and is a good tank as Master Pikegirl with a little swords. When grouped with CL80s she can tackle anything. She doesn't die any faster, she uses a PSG, food buffs and a CoB macro. With bespoke padded armour she even looks good. The other evening she was grouped with a CM and Master Pistoleer and the three of them were out killing Krayt juvies, admittedly anything bigger was tough for a group of three.

So there is still plenty of fun to be had with lower level char.

I have to admit.. I sometimes miss the mind buffs. Mostly because I sort of feel useless in my guild without them. Before I could help them with mind buffs (good ones too)before they went out on a base raid or smth like that. I even got a combat assistance award for it. Or, I would stay in the cantina and be the leader of the hunting group, inviting and buffing people as they drop by, chating with the others in groupchat. But now, I haven't been to the guild cantina in ages... They don't have to be grouped to get a buff and there isn't room for me anyway.

No, I don't want them back because of buff bot hell and all of the reasons why mind buffs were bad.

And I still love dancing and I'm not about to drop it but it's a bit sad that my favorite profession is the one that is the least helpfull to everyone else..

heh, I know a girl...

she dropped dancer for full combat, said it was the most miserable 12 hours of her life, couldnt fight anything or anyone without losing.

she is cl 60, master dancer, master tk, with novice pikes thrown in cause she likes the spin kick. she TEACHES people how to fight in the cantina. people come in to see her and duel (no db since that ruins clothes) her since she often beats full combat templates.

she loves dancer. a former tk came in and tried to tell her that ranged was the way to go and she should drop dancer, well...someone was dropped alright.

anyway... a hybrid is still viable, and I would hesitate to tell her she's useless to her face. I have duelled her and lost...like soooo many others. takes a mcm to take her down, and even thats iffy

Trellgar, please let her know that there are a lot of dancers who would love to pick up some tips from her. We'd welcome her to come here and let us know what she has found works for her.

I can try...
she had a bad experience online when she first started and is awfully cautious about posting and stuff. figures that the problem person may still be lurking, which for women is always a problem so I never push it, but I'll see what I can do.

Understandable. And btw..if anyone ever gets a hard time from any lurkers around here, I hope they'll let me know. I'm pretty proactive about that kind of thing and I'm about the last person around who would be intimidated. If someone tries anything like that on my shift..they won't be around here for long.
