I guess I have a more unusual point of view coming into this. I work at a library in real life, though I can't yet claim the official Librarian title. Small town, very informal and personal library that draws not only local people, but also people who may live closer to other libraries but are willing to travel farther for the social atmosphere here. Between books, story times, special programs, movies and internet access most members of the community pass through here sometime, and most of us know most of the people who do. In this town (and I'm sure most towns, I'm sure) the library functions very well as a social hub.

So when I started SWG and entered the cantina I thought "Oh, social hub, been there done that." To me the cantina was meant to serve in game the function that our library serves in real life. Information, entertainment, socializing; a place where everyone goes sometime, and where I know you are and what you do and can tell you who you should talk to to get what you're looking for. But I suppose we have never really been given, or developed on our own, a real definition of "social hub," even though we throw the phrase around fairly often. I remember a couple threads from way back on what entertainers' "jobs" were, though.

erm. yeah. Since I'm at work and getting interrupted a lot I forgot where I was going with this.

Oh well. *gives everyone cookies*

You know, the one that, by and large, no one is doing, resulting in the current lack of a solid social/interactive hub in the game? Heh. It didn't mention healing, didn't meantion buffing, didn't mention passing notes like HS freshman or giggling like annoying little girls.

Without a "vision statement" the above quotedefines, more closelythananything else I could latelyemphasize, what I have come to understand thedevs'ideal for us to be.Panthu hasbrought this up with usa number of times. Andonce in a while linkage to papers on the topic of "Third Places" get batted around.I know that with our functional emphasis for so long appearingonly to beto support other's performance, it's kind of hard to step back, regroup and see ourselves as something else. It's tough to think outside the box of our existence..our value..being intimately tied to providing something that no one can live without. Weare concerned that we won't be wanted if we're not needed. I'm looking forward to reading what others think of this.

I don't think I got a badge though. Mebbe you have to do the whole quest series. Or maybe after 2 years I just have so many darn badges that I can't find it.

Heh..gotta love ya Dori! 3

It can be done with an existing character as well....I just did all the Trehla series and the Entertainer part of the Mayor series on Starsider.

Just talk to Trehla Keelo (hooded female) who is outside between the cantina and the starport. The combat portions canbe done at CL1.

After a few interrupted starts on different servers, I finally found time to finish this early this morning on Tempest. It is very cool and a huge break from the original tutorial and much more immersive than those annoying green droids. It is modular, it's story-based and it involves the sort of spy/informant stuff that we've talked about here (see..they do pay attention to what we're saying). The basic template could be expanded to provide fun stuff for our future.
