Thread: Regarding Tipping
SistersLament, you obviously have a very low opinion of the dancer class.
Simple solution: You think dancers are *insert whatever you want here*, then just don't use their services.
Enjoy the battle fatigue!
There's no kind way to explaion how full of it people like SistersLament are. Just none.
Without Dancers, you know what SWG is? EverQuest, but with different sound tracks. That's it. Whichever dev came up with the current system of battle fatigue, wounds, and how they're healed, thus ensuring a social game, should get a raise.
I'm a scout, and I like to rp as much. I like being alone, I like being away from the city, and I like time to myself to do what i do, which is sometimes little more than watching the stars and listening to my fire snap and pop. I have to defend myself, and my lack of social skills gets me more enimes than friends. My charecter, and I, get burned out sometimes, even if my charecter never shows it. If the only thing needed to heal mind wounds and battle fattige was some stupid little healing pack you could get for 5 creds at an automated bazar terminal, how shallow and empty would the game be? As it stands, with a player driven economy I'm at LEAST going to interact with a pc in the bying proccess, but it dosn't end there. Hotels. Cantinas. Hospitals. Theatres. Places where muscians, dancers, and doctors ply their often thankless yet remarkably difficult trade. Your upset becuase they expect a tip? True, the best never expect a tip, they simply get one. But put yourself in their shoes.
They see a million faces like mine. Punks with varius peices of armor and weapons on, far off looks in our eyes, only their to forgot how close to death we came or to stitch a wound up enough that it stops ruining the shirt. The music is what changes, the dance is what changes, not us. Ooc and Ic, these people take it upon themselves to support idiots like me that think living in a tent is more fun than having running water, and to that, I say take all the hard creds I have, and I wish I had more.
Dont stop the music, and never stop the dance. People like me would never come to a city agian if you did.
LoL, god what a moron. Put it on dance and go watch TV? What **edit**ing world are you living in? God you must be the most clueless person to walk the game, or at least in the running. If you aren't there doing flourishes You dont get EXP! Thats right moron, going afk gets us nowhere! And no dancer would ever expect a tip for dancing afk, get a grip.
Most dancers work hard so they can do what? What is their goal? Oh yeah, to help morons like you and try to make their day more enjoyable. Thankfully most people realize this and treat us in kind. I mean think about it, what else do we get out of this? Credits? Oh please, I could make 100x more credits just running fed ex all day or hunting. All we get for our work to advance is more skills to help other people and to better entertain others.
Most of us bust our asses out there, talking to people, dancing and flourishing as hard as we can so we can get better and learn dances that you'll enjoy watching more and raise our ability to heal. If we went afk we'd never get exp and certainly nobody is going to tip and afk dancer.
I've never asked for a tip, Never will ask for a tip. Only the lame or newb dancers do that. The good dancers don't need to ask, they just get them because decent people appreciate the work the dancers are doing. Oh well, enough ranting about this, just amazing how clueless people are. Would you please post your name and server?
Doctors certainly deserve tips too, a larger tip even maybe. But don't think we're not forking out credits to help you, skills cost money and the best of us dancers have nobody else to train from. Thats why I spend so much time having to run Fed Ex, so I can train my skills to do a better job helping people. Out of all the credits I've spent.. I've maybe seen.. oh I dunno.. 3% back so far? Moron.
Hey Hatch I agree with you on a lot of points. However I still find it extremly annoying how most dancers act and talk along with practically getting on their knees and begging for tips. Sorry I jsut dont find dancers worthy of tips when compared to a medic. Dancers never have to go out and buy things, all they have to do is punch f# a million times, it takes away about 25 stamina, and get exp. Medics lose 100+ mind per heal and have to BUY stimpacks. I still find medics the more worthy. O yes and they dont sound like an idiot when they talk like dancers do, nor do they hold them self high and mighty, and yes they dont beg for tips.
Tip the medics, curb your dancers is my rule
Some people have zero foresight. I posted something to this effect on the discussion boards, but it scrolls off faster than one can type a message!
My point is this: eventually entertainers, the good ones, will have all their healing skills maxxed. I don't know about you all, but even though I am going master entertainer first I had to grab novice dancer so that the healing xp I was acquiring so fast could go into more skills right away. Most of our band is already 3/4 of the way through both healing lines in the field they plan to specialize (music or dance). Once those lines are maxxed, we will not need anybody to be watching us to raise the rest of our skills. There may be a slight xp increase if people are watching, but the xp you get from grouping with other entertainers is all you really need to build your music/dance xp up quickly.
What this means to the average combat player is that unless the top entertainers are being well-compensated for what they are doing, and the hours of "practice" they've put into their profession, they have no need to continue to play in a stagnant old cantina that they've been in since day 1. There are plenty of other places the groups can practice until someone wants to compensate them for their time to play in a healing location for them. Those combat types can certainly stay at the cantinas and heal very slowly watching entertainers with ent healing I and II, but most probably won't find that acceptable as they are fighting creatures which are giving them more and more fatigue and wounds, and finding themselves spending hours at the cantina listening to star wars I.
Even those combat types that have some basic entertaining skills will eventually not be satisfied with the results they are getting, especially once they compare their results to a top quality entertainment group.
I think everyone should just keep plugging away at their skills, making mental notes of those players that are harassing you and who continually treat you as though you should feel honored to play for them.
PS- having said all that, I continue to maintain that there are many entertainers in the game who seem to think that being an entertainer in and of itself is going to get them tips. WRONG. You are pretty much competing against your fellow entertainers for those tips, so you do need to try a little bit... even if you only greet people on the way in you will get a lot of tips.
PPS- I'm glad to see there are more tailors out there now, I almost have too many clothes I'm gonna have to start donating them! ![]()
<Smiles sweetly> Okay, lets see where to begin.
One - Dancers don't buy stimpacks so?.. some medics do but their cheaper then crap and lot of the medics get materials they need to make them for Free! You want to talk about cheap, cheap is exactly why those same medics spend an hour in the cantina doing nothing but using stimpacks to heal dancers of action damage so those medics can raise their healing skills. (not to mention there's a lot dancers do need credits for which has already been mentioned but of course you overlooked that.)
Two - Now.. sorry to break this to you moron but dancing uses up way more then 25 freeking action. The higher up dances use over 25action per flourish, not the top dances, just higher up ones. Havne't got the best yet. Thats 25action every 13 seconds plus an additional 60action about every 30 seconds for dancing without flourishing, then if you want to talk the effects like spotlight ect you can get into the hundreds. So before you open your mouth make sure you know what your talking about.
Three - Most dancers act and talk annoying and get on their knee's begging for tips? Where the hell are you hanging out? The majority of dancers would never ask for a tip let alone beg. The really good dancers and musicians would certainly not and don't need to. There are some sleezy dancers out there but hey guess what, theres morons like you out there too! Its hard to get rid of all the bad eggs, every profession has them.
Four - Not worthy of tips? I'm sorry moron but we're healing you too, if you don't think that matters then don't come watch/listen to us to get healed. We're performing a service to help you, any person with any self respect would do something in return to repay the favor. Obviously this does not include you.
Maybe Doctors deserve bigger tips, I think they do, they can only focus on one person at a time, but that doesn't mean we aren't helping your sorry ass too. Want to know something else funny?A lot of our biggest tippers are doctors, in fact almost all my best tippers are. Why? Because they know whats its like to have selfishjerks like you not appreciate them and they appreciate what we do for them.
Five - All we have to do is punch F# a million times? I'm sorry a good dancer doesn't just mindlessly hit buttons, but I can understand someone with your small intellect not understanding how to do more then that, so of course thats what you'd assume everyone else does. If you really want to know, I have patterns, and mixes, I'll throw in things like a dance change in the middle of a style that blends into another style from a different dance real well. All sorts of variations and turns while doing it to change the look of the dance to make it better. I'm sorry but even medics don't have to think nearly that hard. They can just hit F# keys themselves.
Six- Who the hell are you to say who sounds stupid when their talking? Have you listened to yourself lately? Your probably the dumbest person I've seen on these boards so far and have No idea what your talking about. Now, with that said, yes some dancers are annoying, most arent and most musicians aren't either. However, there are morons like yourself in every profession like I said before so its impossible to get rid of all the annoying ones in the local newb cantina's. You won't see them in a profession band tho.
So, how about leaving your **edit** name and server so we can Curb you? Come on chicken **edit**, i dare you. You won't tho will you? Why? Because you need us and you know it, your just too much of a selfish **edit** to appreciate what others do for you.
So who wants to take bets this kid won't read that whole post? Probably too long and too many words for someone like that to possibly make it through.
SistersLament....*sigh*. This is why there needs to be a flat-out ban against 13-year-olds using the Internet. I used to be a moderator on a pro wrestling board and, well...I'll save you the details, but guys like this one are a dime a dozen. Really, the best thing for everyone to do is to simply not respond to these threads. If they don't get a reaction, they tend to just leave.
Having said that, I thought I should point out that medics don't really have to *buy* anything, as I recall. They are given the tools to make them, and to gather the necessary materials, though admittedly that gathering is (in my opinion) a long, boring, thankless task.
Finally, regarding the lack of tips...I will admit that I tried asking once or twice. What I've found is that most people don't know how to tip in the first place, and I hate making macros. It's annoying to see the same text over and over again. I find it easier to take about 20 minutes to run a couple of long-distance delivery jobs to buy new outfits. Really, that's how all of my characters make money, since hunting stuff doesn't get you any cash (and the market on bone and hide isn't all that great), and the destroy missions are difficult to do solo, and don't pay enough to be profitable when split among a group.
Ravenmist
I hope you know how stupid you sound. You sound like someone trying to lead a gay rights march or something. I couldn't stop laughing when I read your posts.
I agree with Raven mists big word post on all things but one. The falicy that medics and doctors can get their own things to make medicines with.
While I"m sure that was the IDEA behind medicinal forage, having started a medic myself recently I can tell you it's bs. You forage 5 times, succed once, and get /1/ unit of a random thing. Since this craft system has to have all the units be the same rescource, even though I have 15 total inoragnic units I can't make squat becuase i need 8 of the same thing.
Good point with doctors tipping the most. As of today, I know exactly what you mean.
