Thread: No need for clothes, I want a tip anyway...
It's nice, I appreciate it, but I don't ask for it. I do all right. Enough to buy clothes and whatever.
Sure, I'm providing a service to pretty much anybody who cares to watch me, I don't get to really pick and choose and sometimes I sure wish I could. But ya know, a tip is just that. It's tacky to ask for 'em, tackier still to beg for 'em and most tacky and to *demand* them. If you insist on tips, you shouldn't dance/play until they've paid you up front.
So no, Original Poster, you really don't have to tip anybody you don't want to.

I had to laugh that he actually tried to tell you going naked helped his regen. What a crock
You did the right thing.
I try to tip the "professional" entertainers as much as I can afford, since they really are not doing great money-wise. I usually do not tip the people not really trying (players in their underwear, afk players macroing, etc...). Yes, entertainers often get shafted with funds, but if they're not working hard at their profession, like everyone else does with theirs, then they can't really complain about not getting rich.
If the guy you were talking about was wearing armor, then he was obviously a fighter character, and could go get as much money as he wanted doing missions. I usually don't tip the fighter-characters who only picked up entertainer "on the side"

Just out of curiosity how do you determine who is an entertainer "on the side?" S'Man'ta has a number of title opertunities, just one of which is "Novice Entertainer". It just happens to be how she got her start. As a roll player, I try to remember to remove my title when I log in, but that doesn't always work, especally if I've had to restart for some reason or other.
When I dance, I dance. I try to greet every one that comes in, if that's where I'm dancing, or interact with those that have chosen to sit at the table I'm dancing "on" (Okay in. It would be on, if I could stand on it.) I try to remember everyone I've met before and try to entertain the regulars as best I can.
Does that mean that if you've seen me at mission terminal in my Chitlin finding someone stupid enough to pay me to kill gnorts (S'Man'ta has incredibly expensive taste in clothes, and tips being what they are these days, has had to take a second job)in my off time that you're not going to tip me when you next see me working my grove at the cantina?

To answer your question, I distinguish between who is taking their entertainer role seriously and who is just passing time while they heal up between fights by using common sense. I know, I know, its not a very popular method in the online gaming community, but it's still the way I prefer.
If someone runs into a cantina with a drained HAM bar, has a title like bountyhunter, pistoleer, or Teras Kasi Artist, pulls out a slitherhorn, and plays that damnable Starwars 1 until they're healed, then runs back out to fight some more without so much as saying a single word to anyone, then yes, I will make the assumption that entertaining is not their main passion, even without "proof".
If like your saying you yourself make an effort to greet players as patrons, interact with them, and dress in appropriate clothes to really play out the part, then I applaud you. In my opinion you are a great Entertainer and you could expect a hefty tip when I visited you. Whatever you do outside the cantina is your business. I play both entertainers and medics on other servers and I am not naive enough to think that any player could support themself on the generosity of players in general. Clothes, instruments, and especially housing do cost quite a bit of money and very rarely have I ever received enough from tips to live by.
Mainly what I was referring to in my previous post was the way the one player in question was begging for tips as if he needed it. When I entertain I never ask/beg/mention tips, yet I always do my best to thank individuals who do tip me. I would also readily guess that you do not beg for tips when you are dancing, as doing so is not in very good taste in any situation.
After 3 days I already have a reputation for dropping my clothes and dancing semi-naked. If you don't want to tip naked dancers, don't. I don't dance semi-naked for tips. I just do it 'cos it's fun. Those who are bothered by nudity (or even semi-nudity) are the ones with the problem. They need to grow up and join the adult population.
It's undies night at the cantina tonight!
Theres nothing wrong with using clothing creatively.
Wearing underwear is not using clothing creatively. It is a shortcut. You want the fancy revealing clothes, but you don't want to work your way up to be able to afford them, or to get on the good graces of a tailor. It's unimaginitive and overused. If you really want the half naked look, there are much more exotic, creative, and even more revealing clothes out there.
Thats whats wrong with underwear. When I was experimenting with tailoring, I made a pair of white shorts to try on. I destroyed them because they looked too much like underwear.
