Thread: No need for clothes, I want a tip anyway...
I walk into a cantina to see a single music player and dancer performing. The music player seems appropriate dressed and playing a rock song on a fizz. The dancer however is dressed only in the white undergarments. Basically no clothes.
After I am done healing. I tip the musicial but not the dancer. The dancer begs for a tip. I say that "I do not tip people who do not wear clothes." He gets very angry saying this is unreasonable.
My explanation was that entertainers wearing halfway decent attire (as opposed to no clothes at all) were "working harder for the tips".
He goes into this lengthy discussion how clothes would burden his inventory and that removing his armour helps him regen faster. I said that he must be one of the "powerplayer" variety and that I understand. But I also would not tip him.
He grows increasingly upset and says he will slander my name and this and that since im not tipping. At this point I leave.
A question to you all. Am I expected to tip entertainers who seem to be putting minimal effort into their art?

Well, he is providing a service by removing battle fatigue, so you should tip.
But, since he's not taking it very seriously (only 2 inventory slots needed for shirt and pants, and he can put them in the bank later), you should deduct for that.
The amount of the tip and the amount of the deduction is up to you, of course.
I don't think you're obligated to tip everyone in the cantina. If there were an entire band playing, you wouldn't be expected to tip each member; you'd tip the person you most enjoyed, the person who greeted you, or whomever met some other intangible qualification of yours. ![]()
I gave up on my dancer ages ago due to the unfortunate sexual connotation most people attach to the profession (I get enough sexual slurs irl), but I still practice medic skills on entertainers from time to time because I have a soft spot in my heart for them. Like you, I concentrate mainly on clothed dancers who are obviously at the keyboard. This does get me some jeers, scowls, and curses from the occasional underwear dancer, but that goes with the territory. I wouldn't feel too badly about selective tipping, though- it's voting with your wallet. As long as you're tipping somebody for the service, it doesn't matter who it is specifically.
The job of an entertainer especial the dancers ist beneath the healing to please the customer.
If you don't like what you see, don't give a tip, As long you have tiped the musican, I can not see something wrong in your activity.

It would seem to reason that if someone chooses to dance for others in their underwear, they are trying to attract those who want to watch someone dance in their underwear. If you are not entertained, don't feel obligated to tip. Especially if you weren't even watching them. And if the dancer was arguing with you about to whom or what you should show your appreciation, I am embarrased for them.
I play an entertainer, and I am working on my dancing skills. I love the job - with or without your tips! When I am in the cantina and I hear others begging for tips, I cringe. I have met great people who come in for healing and they are ashamed that they have no credits to offer, no matter how much I try to make them feel otherwise! I consider tips spontanious gestures of appreciaton. And I actuallythink an honest, simple thank you and/or a little pleasant interactionis amore effort giving form of appreciation, so I enjoy that more. We are entertainers, after all.
Have fun in the game!
*sigh* Ever a question, and ever a bad reputation for those of us who DO work hard at our craft.
No one is *ever* obligated to tip. Players who want to force payment for services now have the option of doing so in player-run cantinas. Tipping should be done freely, and based upon what you feel you received in 'service', which is NOT only healing, but also Entertainment.
There are many many dancers and musicians who will not dance without clothes, nor will they group with anyone who does. You "owe" him nothing, and I find the excuse he provided to be lame, at best.
There are people, and now organizations, who will help new entertainers get clothes to avoid this sort of thing. For that matter, you can now get a number of garments at a good price on the bazaar terminals of just about any city.
I think you did exactly right, because you explained to him why he did not receive a tip, and then moved on. Perhaps next time, he'll wear some pants ![]()
You don't have to *tip* anybody. However it is always good form to tip whoever it is that you are watching to heal battle fatigue or wounds. You tipping the musican and not the dancer is perfectly fine. It is your money and you choose what you do with it. You choose to watch the musician and not the dancer. If you were forced to watch the dancer, it would be good form to tip just a very small amount.
The dancer should NOT have demanded a tip from you. That is just plain 'unclassy' to put it lightly. Its actions like that which make other players resent giving tips. If anyone ever did that to me, I would tell them flat out that behaving in that way will result in no tips. You did right in explaining why you didn't tip. The dancer should have thought about your words and then moved on.
People who dance in their underwear do it to attract attention (especially the females) because they believe they will get more tips out of it. They'll continue to do it until it doesn't prove profitable. Its all about the credits. If nobody's paying, they'll move onto something that does pay.
Well, offered that to him as a tip anyway. If he declined then dont worry about going to get the stuff. He declined your tip.
I for one say that as long as you tipped someone you did nothing wrong. I for one will not group with the "granny's" at all. Sometimes if they are already in group and I didn't notice I will ofter them some of the clothing that I don't wear often so they can cover themselves--mostly newbies.
As for this particular instance they guy was a knowledgable player therefore he could have had had a decent outfit that as someone else mentioned he could have stuck in the bank afterwards. Even for newbies there is no excuse for being in your undies...you come will clothes when you spawn and 250 credits in your pocket....buy a pair of shorts!!! jeez.

If you "watched" the dancer, you should have tipped him. If you didn't watch then you don't need to tip.

Pfft. If the dancer was being that much of a jerk, don't tip him.
He failed in his primary task of being an entertainer. He did not entertain.
He healed, yes, but he's going to have the personality of an NPC, then treat him like one and don't tip.
People like this make it more difficult for us entertainers who actually work for our tips. I have nearly 70k credits. Over half that was from tips. I don't want someone to tell me, "Sorry that I couldn't tip you more because I gave 100 credits to some jerkwad who demanded a tip." That means that giving into some whiner's rant deprives me of my well-earned credits.
I say "Screw the belligerent entertainers." If you're in it for the experience points and self-heals, you know how to make a macro. If you're in it for the money, do what the other professions do and work for it.
I beg to differ. If you "watched" the dancer, you also gave the dancer healing xp and a bonus for being watched. I agree with not tipping spam artists. They are annoying as hell. If you're a true entertainer, you're doing it because you love it, not for the money. Trust me, I know from experience. You DON'T have to tip anyone. I will regularly tip my doctors 1k for healing me. Even if I have low injuries. They need it for supplies. Dancers need money for clothing, and well, whatever else they buy. Being part of an Entertainer PA, I know that some of us live off of tips. For myself, I do destroy missions, since I am working on a Dancer/Pistoleer combo.
Anyways, off topic, as usual. So I guess my point is that you aren't obligated to pay for AFK undie dancers. They are the bane of my existence. You should only tip if you feel like you are being "entertained." Watching someone press buttons is not entertaining in my opinion. If they interact with you and show you a good time, then tipping them would be a "reward" for their interaction. I know people do this regularly and don't get tipped. Most of the time I think the people coming in just plain forget about it. They're usually happy just to have some interaction.
I guess the sad fact is, that entertainers expect tips regardless of their activities. Even though I am an engaging entertainer, I rarely get any tips worth metioning. Although, I did get a very good work contract. Most of the fighters going to Secondary planets hate coming back. I got paid to go to Dathomir with a fighter. So I died once, but it was a lot of fun, AND I got a decent amount of pay. The trip was paid for plus a supplement for going with him. It was quite an adventure. Gah, off topic again.
DON'T TIP UNDIE DANCERS.
Thank you.
Well, you are roleplaying if you are of the opinion "They have to entertain me to make tips". And if you are roleplaying, then you do not watch someone you are not really watching.
If you're not roleplaying, your attitude is "they heal mind wounds, they remove battle fatigue, service = payment". And you tip the person you watch.
Imho, if you watch them, then you should WATCH them. And if you can't stand the sight of someone, then you shouldn't be watching them. The musician would have healed you in time, but you wanted faster service. So you watched the dancer as well... I just disagree with the majority here in saying that you should have tipped him because you gained benefit from him.
I am also of the opinion that half your tip should come from the healing, and half from the entertainment. If you come in with no wounds and watch someone, tip them for the entertainment. If you come in with 500 battle fatigue and stay afk the entire time listening to some musician, tip them for the healing. If you get both entertainment and healing, then tip for both.
