Thread: Formal dances and new flourishes...
My solution for lyrical has been to write a macro with each flourish timed out. The next flourish will fire when the one previous has just completed animating so the buggy step is hidden for the most part. What really bothers me (besides the fact that I had to do this by macro since even when watching the visual cue, the game randomly loses the flo command and then I have to wait through the step so I don't end up wandering out of the cantina) is each flourish lasts a different amount of time. Having a 'fall' with the macro running will let the bugged steps be viewed and cause additional wandering-and of course, as a master dancer I can do nothing at all about falling. /sigh
It takes a lot of action to do the dance that way but since it's my favorite dance at least the macro lets me dance it sometimes. And as long as I don't get a 'fall', I wander a lot less when doing it that way too.
Ravenmist,
Although we have been told before that this is a lag issue. I really think some flogging is in order.
This is NOT a lag issue. If it were a lag issue it would effect the /dance emote but it doesnt ANYONE can do /dance and everyone sees it how it is.
Not only that it would effect ANY and ALL flourishes that have extended movement. I.E number 3 for Poplock or 1 for Rythmic2 or 1
This is NOT a lag related issue.
Never has been never will be
This is bad code where some numbers are wrong for frame synchronazation.
Whoever tried to pull the wool over our eyes and try to convince us dancers that is lag is just doing that Pulling the wool over our eyes!
There are some of us who are are not going to be fooled by this lame excuse.
Especially since "I" cannot see Lyrical2 done by someone else. When i have 0% packet loss and a ping that hovers in the 50ms range with a high end computer.
This is not lag. Its bad code period end of story.

the problem is Syl that some ppl can acualy see the moves inbetween flurishes..
I know that sometimes I can, but mostly I can't....

hehe, i cant believe you can complain about formal, but not footloose! footloose makes formal look like the dance of the gods!.. when ever i see someone doing footloose i think of zombies going "BRAIIINS EAT BRAINS!!!"
the complaint isn't the moves Mihoko
the complaint is the idel animation on the dances formal and lyrical, the majority of ppl just see you walking sideways with the odd spasmik twitch and kick now and then between flurishes.
Okay, let me see here Syl, few problems with your line of logic here. (although I am inclined to agree this is more then just a lag issue)
First off, all flourishes are immune to this bug, and the /dance emote acts like a flourish does, so no you wouldn't see any problem with it. I'm guessing the flourishes are immune because it has a set pattern of moves etc. and it tells other peoples clients this is going on where as the in between stuff seems to be a little random. (two dancers start dancing same dance at same time and after a short while their non flourish moves don't usually match up)
No flourishes are affected by this, only the in between movement and these are the only two dances that have you moving around the room a lot while not flourishing. Since some people can see it how its suppose to and others can't and even those who can and can't change sometimes it does sound like it has something to do with lag. However that doesn't mean there isn't some way to fix the problem and keep server/client side lag from messing things up.
So no, I think your wrong here on this one. I have myself seen others do this dance properly in between so I know its not an issue for everyone. This does seem to have something to do with lag and only affects non flourish movement. I do think there is a way to fix this tho and one needs to be found badly.
Also I'll point out that having 0 pl and 50 ping doesn't mean you aren't having a lag issue. Some people don't seem to understand that things going on at the server end and those on the client end do not usually match up perfectly. This is part of the problem for brawler type professions right now because people arent' often where they appear to be at any given second while moving making it nearly impossible for a brawler to hit someone. To address this their increasing the range of brawler professions to make up for this problem. So what I'm saying here is that for some reason our non flourished movement isn't matching up properly and thats causing the problem. Unfortunately tho, increasing range won't help us.
Hope that all made sense..
I always do formal sword in hand, makes some of the flourish look alot better like she's doing a sword dance. I do agree that some of those moves don't belong in formal but should get their own dance.
Well if this is the case that all flourishes are immune.
than that means there is something in the lyrical basic step that is random when it shouldnt be. Obviously there is nothing random about the /dance emote.
So this leads me to believe that the step seen in the dance routine itself calls on a random element inside that animation.
Secondly we do know that the formal dance looks like your drunk and don't know where your going. This is obviously random in nature.
Perhaps its the randomness that is called in those animations that is causing the problem.
If the random issue is removed that it will be just as immune as flourishes. Since it will ALWAYS be the same.

Oh side note while i am thinking about it.
Ever notice that when you do lyrical2 that when you finish a flourish sometimes your character runs sidways for no reason?
It doesnt happen all the time but alot of the time if you wait after doing a flourish in Lyrical that your character just runs sideways then begins the basic step again.
It could be related to the whole issue thats causing people to slide around on the floor and slide out of chairs.
The server can't tell where the hell you are.
This needs to be tightend up somehow for dancers or it will never be right imo.

Thats basically what I've been thinking, but trying to get some feedback from our dev to see what other possible solutions there are and what complications there might be with doing this.
Even though formal might have some flourishes that dont suite together,
Even though the Master Dances are limited to a maximum of 4 flourishes (variety???)
I still want to ask for a dance which is actually more masculine, like breakdance.
Please.. please please please please... do something for the male dancers... thank you
