Great news but it has me wondering over a couple of issues.
How long will the maximum length of a macro be allowed to be? For example, will we be able to macro 120 flourishes needed for a mind buff. Not such a big thing if we're not but it'll be something a lot of people will be sure to ask once the change goes in. Though a 2 or 3 part/use macro for that wouldn't be too much hastle and would help prevent buffbots.
Also TH's comments suggest that macro's activating toolbar slots are possibly going (either that or just activating macro slots so normal ones are ok) no more quick outfit changes? I only just sorted my macro changes out just last week.
Overall I can't wait, this is going to change the game hugely, especially for us.

This will fix nothing. Unless they eliminate the UI commands as well which they will never do. They're going to just screw it up again! Just as they did ID.

I see rough seas ahead...
crafters got screwed
surveyors got screwed
smugglers got screwed
entertainers got partially screwed (flourish macros), and i believe that, if the /macro command still exists, you can just have 2 macros call on each other
Hopefully this will kill the buffbots though

Well, TH does admit in a post above the one I submitted that he has mixed feelings about removing the recursive macro . . . still I appalud him and the devs for taking a strong stand against AFK exploits. Once this is dealt with other means can be examined to compensate for losses in other areas.

Okay, not read his post yet (think I need a coffee before I brace myself for that) but my immediate thought is this...
Great if it means bye bye to buff bots and afkers.
Not so great if it means that those of us who have complex band performances worked out and use alias files to call cues for the other band members.
e.g.
verse1: /g Musicians /cdpr on my mark; /pause 5; /mark; /verse2;
verse2: /sing La la la this is a test; /pause 5;
Now this particular example dosn't call verse1 again, but we do have some songs scored where you call the chorus again. Yes there are work arounds for this... but if this is going to affect us we need to know so we can schedule time to rewrite our repertoire and not take gigs which require those numbers.
Anyway... going to get that coffee and read the post so I can come back more informed (hopefully!).

Like I pointed out in the Intrepid forum, I use a looping macro to make sure I can flourish every 5 seconds and so I won't have to restart it all the time. I do not AFK but it does help me out as a tool. Why hinder those of us who are ATK with macros?
But on the flip side, I am very glad it is going to get the AFK buffers to go..hopefully..

Don't worry, looks to me like it'll take more lines in a macro. i don't think they mean you can't have more than one macro running at a time, they just won't be able to call each other indefinitely.
we'll be able to figure out all the legit applications in the new system, I'm sure. I don't see this being much of a problem... I think macros that run for an hour or maybe even a couple will still go over fine.
