I'm an incredibly goofy person, so when I'm dancing, I just act really goofy and try to engage all the other dancers around me. It almost always works. When people run by the cantina and hear the good time being had inside, they always stop in. Then a huge party ensues, and everybody loves a party! If people see that you're enjoying what you're doing, then their spirits will be lifted as well. And to those who act like smacktards, they get /rude, /slap, /slap and a "Stop being such an a$$hat!" If they continue, they get /reported and ignored. Although, generally speaking, it seems that even the l33t guys don't pick on people who don lamp shades (i.e. the warm hat ) on their heads and dance around the room singing to themselves.

Another way I bring up the ents' moods is with my tailor alt. Last night, I went around to all the big cantinas and made free clothes for all the ATK people. Anything they wanted at all, any color, free of charge, no limit on the order. I also gave them all 50,000cr tips. I didn't give away as much money/clothing as I would've liked, but I managed to lighten my pocketbook/resource packs a fair bit.

YOu are an inspiration! I do that, too, with my tailor alt. Give away all kinds of free clothing, backpacks and even vehicles.

/ignore is a wonderful tool. Answer their questions with a question. Puts them on the defensive without you being shown as the aggressive one. Eventually they will get tired answering questions and leave you alone.

That type of behavior is not limited to a profession, but to a group of people. Anyone remember the days when people used to pull pets out in the cantina and park them on ents?

I was involved in that tour.

One of the most important may be to not dwell on the negative. While the Jedi acting like 2 year olds was annoying, it was nice to see them move their duels off a few meters when the distractions, colorswirls and spotlights drove them out of the center of us.

Also remember that we added another [Master Dancer] member in Mos Eisley (though I can't remember her name right now) who was very excited to see us performing. There were a lot of positive comments in Mos Eisley, true they were largely drowned out by the din of lightsabers.

Perhaps a little better promotion would have made a difference. True, Geist posted on all of the Ent Forums and Lowca but I just barely saw the annoucement here on the Dancer Forum on Thursday afternoon for the Friday performance. If we do this again, maybe more people participating will help to draw out those who appreciate the show and quiet those that couldn't care less.

That's really wonderful... I think I might have to pop into the cantina today, and do the same thing. Just sit in the cantina with my crafting droid, and make clothes for the ATK people.

Once, I got to play Santa Claus with a 1 mil cash tip from a guy that wanted me to share it with all the ATK ents in the room. That was a good day.

Wit is powerfull tool

if i get harrasment from people about my profession (mostly witty comments from my friends ) i try to turn it to my advantage and get even

Tho if it goes beyond comfortable report is in order.

on Farstar there really is not problem for amount of entertainers, sure they have decreased a lot lately but we keep the spirit up, little we are but brighter we shine!

We had a recent starport party after Pub 20 to display the new dances and props. We were out in front of Theed starport, and of course there were various battles going on. At one point some Jedis starting battling though the middle of our group and to tease them a bit I commented, "How cute! The Jedi are jealous of our new props!" I got a little laugh from one of them.

Thanks so much for your ideas and your advice. The problem now is that no matter what I try to do - be my usual friendly self, attempt to report people who are harrassing entertainers (which is impossible because there are just too many) - nothing makes a difference. This post is probably going to sound like I'm just whining, and I apologize. I just needed to vent to someone, and I knew you would understand.

Last night a few entertainers went to Vreni Island's theater to perform at a wedding. We danced a little bit before the wedding and then the ceremony began. While we weren't actually performing when this was happening, the vows were being exchanged.

Some people on Lowca thought it would be funny to start dueling in the middle of the wedding. They also thought it'd be funny to videotape it and post it on the forums. (The dancer you see in the video isn't one of us. He's just one of the people who helped make the video.) Anyway, I wasn't surprised they'd go to our forums and brag about it and now, at least, I can show you what we're dealing with over there.

edit: I tried to make this a clicky, but something went horribly wrong.

Yes, I know this is just a game. But I also know this was a really special day for the bride and groom and it was ruined by a bunch of kids who could have easily PvPed somewhere else. Plus, I remember over a year ago, SOE had a feature on in-game weddings and whoed some of the exotic locations where people could hold their weddings. I guess our CSR's solution was to move the wedding to a city hall instead, presumably so the mayor could ban people as needed. But Entertainers can't ban people whenever we're being harrassed. What are we supposed to do everytime this happens? Everyone, including my fellow performers and I, have just as much of a right to play SWG as the combat players/Jedi do, yet it seems like they get to trample on us whenever they feel like it. I'm about ready to give up.

The basic rules about griefing and harassment are: /report playername. Go to the Holocron panel (ctrl+h or the little hand icon in the panels toolbar) and file a customer service report for harassment.

This system has its drawbacks. /report only works for spatial chat and the CSRs usually just tell you to put the other player on ignore. If the harassment is in tells or a chat channel, include all information in your report. In my experience, some CSRs may not comprehend that griefing can occur outside the combat context. But keep reporting. Yes..we can only have one CS ticket at a time. For this reason it is very important that you record the numbers of all your tickets and the CSR responses to them and include that information in all your reports (maintain history). Whenold ticketsare "deleted" they are not removed..just moved.

It has always been a bit surprising to me that entertainers haven't been more vocal about player harassment toward us. I certainly know it happens. Today a friend of mine asked me, "What really happened during the bot wars?" (a period of 2 months last summer when entertainers on Chilastra were griefed by a guild of buffbot owners). Oh sure..they said we started it and I'll admit, plenty of entertainers contributed to the situation by verbally fighting back. But I remember that Saturdaywhen Til & I started performing in the Theed cantina and the bot owner got mad when his customers left the buff line to come visit with us.I'm still on Chilastra and they aren't.

My best advice to you is, until a time when CSRs are able to more actively intervene, file a CSR report, keep the report number for your records, take a screenshot (these are not submissable as evidence at this time but may be helpful to you) and don't talk back. The less you react to them, the more likely they are to leave you alone. Players grief because they get some sort of satisfaction from hurting others. If you don't react, they get no satisfaction. Don't let them have it. And if you are having an event that you suspect may be griefed, contact customer service the day before the event, give them the details of the event, what type of harassment you are suspecting will occur and the names of players who have threatened to cause problems. Trust me..it is nice to know you have an angel over your shoulder.

Last month a large event with entertainers from all over was held on Chilastra. Prior to the event, I did receive notice that people were going to harass us using the anti-ATK slogans and rhetoric used by the bot owners. I made a point of letting CS know and making sure there were trusted people on Admin in the cantinas we visited. We quit counting how many were in attendance at 165 (that was the number of entertainers, not including spectators). While my favorite stormtrooper organized a squadron to harass me about my forged entertainer's license(this is a little rp we do from time to time) there were only a fewreal harassment events which were quickly stopped by our pre-arranged security team (much <3 to Relan & Pappi!). Except for the amazing lag some people experienced, a good time was had by all.

My question for you is... how do you keep up the good fight? Does it feel like a fight to you as well? (It really shouldn't...) How do you continue to encourage your fellow Entertainers, even when things seem a bit bleak at the moment? I need some ideas to help keep my fellow Entertainers' spirits up, because I do not want to see them give up.
It's just that... well... it's getting more and more difficult to perform under these conditions!

I'm going to be blunt here. I'm not directing anything at you, personally. I'm just not in the mood to mince words or gloss over things anymore when it comes to this game.

The short answer is, I don't. If they don't want to play the game because SOE has made it stop being fun, then that's all she wrote. You can't make someone else have fun at something they aren't having fun at. And to be honest I think the entertainers I know who have quit (some who were entertainers at launch) are entirely justified, given how the devs have treated our profession. How can I say they should stay when I think I'm a fool myself for sticking with it?

The bottom line is: I play the game to have fun. I do not consider it my "responsibility" to "fight" for what I "believe in." You're 100% right, it should not feel like a fight. This is a game. If the devs hose us enough, I'll just quit. I play to have fun, period -- not to be some sort of warrior fighting the good fight for a "cause." I don't do causes in real life -- I sure as hell am not going to do them in a game.

Ok, first off Clicky

My rl husband (PvPer) and I(Dancer, so usually pretty RP sensitive)have fought about this for almost four hours now, lol. I just, jeez, I don't know. Who knew something like this would ever even come up in a game ever? Here's what me and the hubby have agreed on, this should have been done as Tuskens or something instead of Muslim terrorists.

Even a joke jihad is just in such amazing poor taste right now it is a little hard to even get past that and have a real look at what was done here.

However, if you can get past the awfulness of that, these guys put a ton of planning into this! They needed IDs to make them into dark skinned looking "Arabs." They needed Tailors to make their matching suits and turbans. Their griefer Dancer had props and was doing a middle eastern dance style. They had rifles and machine guns to look like they were right off the pages of cnn.com.

I find the content absolutely disgusting and offensive to Muslims and non-Muslims a like, but holy moo did they play the part well. Some SNL skits haven't been done as well!

This is a new level of griefing. This is a new kind of RP. Terrorist RP? Because, just because these dudes might consider themselves PvPers, that's not what they did here. They had an RP event that required another RP event to grief, but they were RPing a role and did it amazingly well.

I just don't know. I wish they could have done it in a way that didn't make me sick to my stomach about real world issues, but as just an RP thing? This is a new thing and pretty interesting. If you put as much planning and workinto crashing an event as the event itself, if you role play your part just as well as the people role playing their original event... do you have as much right to the game world with your $15 as the original event planners?

I'm just baffled. I have no clue.
