I am a dancer 1211, artisan 4444, and novice tailor, and except for one box of Engineering I have never ground diddly squat. And I do just fine selling low-level clothes on the bazaar. (And a lot moe than fine when I got into selling resources for awhile.) I may never be a millionaire, but I can afford the maintainance on my house and don't worry about shuttle tickets.
If being a dancer drives you "totally insane," don't be a dancer! (In the words of the great Scott Kurtz, "A-doy!?!")
As for crafting macros, as you say you have to be ATK to use it. And any macro you have to be ATK for is one that doesn't need to be recursive, because you're bloody well at the keyboard to restart it when it's done. None of my macros are recursive.
